Software :: When Shut Down Either Program And Restart Accounts Will Not Connect

Nov 17, 2010

I'm running Debian Squeeze x64 and have an odd problem with both Empathy and Pidgin. After I launch the program and add my accounts everything works fine. When I shut down either program and restart the accounts will not connect. I have to delete the accounts and re-add them and all is good until the next time. It's not a firewall issue as I've tried it with the firewall turned off.

Ubuntu :: EEE PC Freezes Up On Shut Down / Restart

May 16, 2011

I love Ubuntu, and I've been using it ever since a friend of mine recommended it last year. The problem I've been having lately is that no matter what version I use, and how I install it, it keeps freezing up on shut down and/or restart. It's been doing that for the past 6 months or so, and I had stopped using it for awhile, because I wanted to wait for the latest release and see if it keeps happening. Well it does...

I am currently using the new windows installer, wubi, and I don't see any difference from the way it was before, when I installed it directly, not through Windows... I keep seeing the same problem, however, and I am really starting to get tired of it.

OpenSUSE Install :: Computer Does Not Shut Down / Restart

Oct 2, 2010

Brand-new to Linux. Using a computer with openSUSE 11.3 (64-bit) freshly installed. Install went flawlessly without any kind of error messages.

Hardware used: MSI X58 Eclipse, Intel i7-920, 6 GB memory, Seagate 500 GB SATA.
openSUSE is the only OS installed.

After the install is finished, all programs work fine. HOWEVER when I try to shut down/restart the computer nothing happens! I basically have to use the power off button to shut down...

Ubuntu :: Shut Down - Works - Restart" Doesn't

Jul 23, 2011

I installed nVidia drivers for Ubuntu 11.04 but when I went to restart the computer (to complete the installation) it froze on the splash screen at the third "dot" and I had to turn off the computer manually.

I can shut down the computer, but every time I restart I get the same issue (except sometimes only the "dots" appear with lines of code running in the background).

I read on-line that hitting "F1" or "ALT + F1" right before the splash screen appears might work...but it doesn't.

My concern is that maybe the nVidia driver is "activated but not currently in use" because it didn't install properly due to the whole not restarting on it's own thing.

Ubuntu :: Automatically Restart A Program On Close?

May 18, 2010

I'm trying to get a program to automatically reload if I accidentally close it. This is a remote access program, so it has to be relaunched without me doing anything to help it along if it crashes or I accidentally close it. I noticed that someone came up with a way to solve this back in 2007 [URL].. but the files don't appear to exist any more for it to work. how I might get a program to automatically reload on exit?

Debian :: Setting Up An Automatic Program Restart

May 20, 2010

I tried to set up an automatic program restart on Debian Lenny for fail2ban and asterisk. Google helped me to find some HowTos. However, all what I tried so far doesn't work. The latest version: According some instructions the following commands have been written in a file called auto_start_stop:

Code: #! /bin/sh

-> saved in the folder /etc/init.d and
-> its properties changed with a right-click to 075.
-> The links have been created with update-rc.d auto_start_stop defaults

Why this doesn't work and how I could correct it?

Fedora X86/64bit :: Running F11 I586 On Laptop / System Shut Off (not A Normal OS Shut Down, But A Sudden Power Off Without Warning)?

Oct 13, 2009

Offlate I installed F11 i586 on my laptop. F11 shares the hard disk with Vista Home Premium 32-bit. The problem is that when running F11 (or even Ubuntu), my system shut off suddenly(not a normal OS shut down, but a sudden power off without any warning). This could have been a hardware trouble(heating) but it doesn't happen with Vista.
Machine specifications:
Maker: Toshiba
Model: Satellite L305D-S5881
AMD Turion X2 Dual Core Mobile Processor RM-70
3072 MB 800 MHz SDRAM
I don't want to open up my machine unnecessarily, if it isn't a hardware issue.
I am not sure how to verify the bit length of the machine and the OS and does it create a compatibility issue ?
Your advise would be highly appreciated.

If you want to use static ip addresses, turn off the NM services by going to "system->administration->services" and disable the NM services and reboot.Next, goto "system->admin->network", highlight your device and click the "edit" tab and configure the device. Uncheck the "controlled by NM option" and "automatically obtain ip address" BUT then place a check in the "allow users to control" and "activate on boot"Then click the "dns" tab and fill in your dns servers ip addresses.the problem is that is no internet connection after reboot. than i go to system->admin->network,and activate the device and all ok.

(it doesn't have the problem with OS-X) The external monitor is a samsung syncmaster 192 n. when I connect the other monitor and press 'detect display' both go grey creens(the external already is of course). My lapton screen will not recover until restart either. I need this monitor to run a numerical mesh 3d mesh creator that will not fit on my screen alone. Wouldnt be a problem if the creators were software engineers but the program window cannot rescale, and is beyond the resolution capabilities of my 15'' screen alone.
