Running graphical applications as a privileged user should be avoided for security reasons. Package management applications are security sensitive and therefore this application will now close.
How must I install applications? Surely the world is getting paranoid with all this hackers and viruses, because with every new version O/S, the security features gets more and more; up to the point that you can't fricken do and play around with your pc as you would.

Jun 20, 2010I just finished installing a dual boot XP/Ubuntu 10.04 LTS for desktop about half an hour ago, and it's my first experience with a Linux OS. Now that my *complete idiot noob* flag is flying, I have an error I think I need to report:An error occurs with the Package Manager, I get this message when I try to run it, and when Ubuntu boots:
E: Encountered a Package with no Package: header
E: Problem with MergeList /var/lib/apt/lists/
us.archive.ubuntu.com_ubuntu_dists_lucid_restricte d_binary-i386_Packages
E: The package lists or status file could not be parsed or opened.
This usually means that your installed packages have unmet dependencies I tried to download and install Chrome, and it came up with a similar error.
Is my install corrupt/incomplete or something? My setup is a P4 2.4Ghz, 512Mb RAM, onboard graphics, wireless internet and the HDD is 40GB, split into 2 partitions, and my Ubuntu Partition is 10 GB. I'm running Ubuntu 10.04 LTS distribution, and the other OS is Windows XP Professional SP3.I installed Ubuntu by using the Wubi installer.

Another question is: Do all linux based systems natively support cryptography? if yes, what engines do they use? Do they all use openssl or do they use high level java based engines like Harmony(Apache) or Bouncy castle?
I have an ubuntu 10.10 and I know openssl support is already provided. However I want to know if any system level program actually uses it or not.

Jan 15, 2011i have fedora distribution running in my virtual machine. I installed sectool- .9.5-1.fc13.i686.rpm & sectool-gui-0.9.5-1.fc13.i686.rpm (the gui of the tool)
Then i modified the file /etc/selinux/conf to change the selinux from enforce to disabled (so the test can be run) the prob now, each time i try to lunch the package to get a test result... it takes so long time without result even if i choose 1 test only as u can see in the attached file. I've been waiting for more than 1 hour with no result

Nov 26, 2010The iptables has every rule set correctly, the users in the subnet works great, but I have the following issue.every user connect to a mysql running on the internet through the port 3306, the forward and masquerade do the job. Now I have a user in the outside, and he wants to connect to a mysql in a certain machine (Not the gateway), prerouting rules solve my problems, but all the packages from the inside users goes now to that certain machine. I would like something like if the package passed trough masquerade don't pass trough the prerouting rule, and if it come from the outside (Not a package that come from a petition from the inside) pass trough the prerouting rule.

Sep 16, 2010A day ago I finally got around to upgrading the PackageKit installation that had been sitting for a week and a half, so I found a new upgrade for sudo available - the one that gives the sudoreplay command, I forget which version number it is exactly. When I try to use the sudo command I get this notice in my terminal:Code:Can't open /var/db/sudo/me/1: Permission deniedI didn't get it before. What do I have to do to make it open? I'm using SELinux in enforcing mode if that helps.
