Ubuntu Installation :: Convert Package 9.04 .deb To 9.10?
Jan 30, 2010
How do you convert a 9.04 .deb to a 9.10? I'm not sure if I even need to, but before I install an older package I would like to know if there are general rules. I have a camera software package that has yet to be updated, and I can't find the source code, but can find the Jaunty .deb. are there any pointers out there?
I'm trying to use convert, I have installed the imagemagick. I use this line:convert *.jpg test.pdf but I'm only able to convert to pdf 1 single jpg file, not multiple files at once. When there's more than one file, I get the following error: Segmentation fault
I wanted to install this package to convert one Unix book into pdf. Since I have not set up the internet in the debian, I download the .deb files in winxp and transfer these files to my pen drive and then access it in the Debian. So I got all the 'depends' packages for the chm2pdf from the Debian Packages site and tried to install. Console was still asking for more dependencies. If I have got all the 'depends' packages which are required for chm2pdf, then why does it give problems ?
I am following this guide to installing eclipse via terminal command-line on Linux. However, this seems to be happening lately with all the packages I try to install..I checked the Synaptic Package Manager and reloaded and rebooted the computer, but to no avail.
I have a problem when installing this package through synaptic package manager. this is :
libpng12-dev the error is: W: Failed to fetch http://security.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/po...tu2.1_i386.deb 404 Not Found [IP: 91.189.92.167 80] my distribution is ubuntu 10.4.
I just finished installing a dual boot XP/Ubuntu 10.04 LTS for desktop about half an hour ago, and it's my first experience with a Linux OS. Now that my *complete idiot noob* flag is flying, I have an error I think I need to report:An error occurs with the Package Manager, I get this message when I try to run it, and when Ubuntu boots:
E: Encountered a Package with no Package: header E: Problem with MergeList /var/lib/apt/lists/ us.archive.ubuntu.com_ubuntu_dists_lucid_restricte d_binary-i386_Packages E: The package lists or status file could not be parsed or opened.
This usually means that your installed packages have unmet dependencies I tried to download and install Chrome, and it came up with a similar error.
Is my install corrupt/incomplete or something? My setup is a P4 2.4Ghz, 512Mb RAM, onboard graphics, wireless internet and the HDD is 40GB, split into 2 partitions, and my Ubuntu Partition is 10 GB. I'm running Ubuntu 10.04 LTS distribution, and the other OS is Windows XP Professional SP3.I installed Ubuntu by using the Wubi installer.
I want to install kernel package by this command sudo apt-get install kernel-packagebut it gives me the error :Package kernel-package has no installation candidate
I have Ubuntu 9.04 and just installed Sound Converter. I am trying to convert a bunch of .ogg files to mp3 to play on my iPod and it's not working so well. In the Sound Converter options I have is set to convert to high quality mp3. I choose the folder that the files are in and after a moment (slow laptop) Sound Converter populates, I hit 'convert' and it shows that the conversion completes in two seconds. All that it did was create the new folder structure of artist/album but there is nothing in there. Not sure what I am missing. I used Sound Converter before and it worked fine.
I'm trying to execute the following command: apt-get install linux-headers-`uname -r` mercurial build-essential cvs subversion libncurses5-dev
I get the following error:Package libncurses5-dev is not available, but is referred to by another package. This may mean that the package is missing, has been obsoleted, or is only available from another source
E: Package libncurses5-dev has no installation candidate
i have installed Imagemagick for this conversion but may be its not installed properly.its giving me an error "install libLTLIBRARIES".i dont know from where i can get it.or is there some other way to convert .pdf files to .eps files in ubuntu?
I want to convert a Lucid installation to UNR, so am I right in thinking I can download the interface from Synaptic to do it. Or is it necessary to download the full version of UNR?
I have a lot of .flac files downloaded from several sites. Most of them come with a .cue file, and the .jpg with the cover, etc. It seems it is the intention of the uploader that one rebuilds the original CDDA. However, if I had a stand-alone CD/DVD player with flac I would hardly see the point of converting the flac to cdda. Furthermore, I could even play the flacs with a software player although, in this case, the audio quality would not be so good due to the noise picked up by the signal from the PC digital circuits.
I have been using ubuntu 10.04 through wubi installation and would like to now convert it to a dedicated partition . On searching I found LVPM does that. It converts the wubi install to a dedicated partition including all the softwares and settings. Unfortunately it doesn't support ubuntu 10.04 currently . Can anyone suggest any alternate way to achieve the same or a patch for LVPM .
Is it possible to convert Ubuntu 11.04 i386 iso to an alternate iso by any means?? Not that I have bandwidth restrictions, just our ISP doesn't want us to use over a certain amount.. Weirdest uncapped ever right.. So can I convert the normal iso to an alternate iso??
I have recently installed Netbook Remix 10.04 on my MSi Wind u100, and so it dual-boots XP, as well as Netbook Remix. I'm not a huge fan of netbook remix, and I find it really doesn't add a whole lot to my netbook experience. I was quite surprised when setting up evolution and empathy to find a number of the windows didn't fit on my 1024x600 screen. As such I would like to put normal Ubuntu 10.04 onto my netbook. What would be the easiest way to do it? Should I just install it from a LiveCD, or is there a better way?
i need to install firefox beta 4 , and since its in testing period i cant find it on my firefox updates till it realese so i download firefox beta 4 with extension .tar.bz2 which i cannot treat if there are a way to convert it to .deb which i can install (i search google 4 that problem and i see solutions by using alien and some other teqniche i just want an easy way i can do
I'm about to change colleges soon, and my new college (Full Sail University) requires us to have MacBooks. The university distributes the MacBooks to us with loads of class-related software pre-loaded. I'm unsure if they give us recovery discs for the Mac installation and the software.I have used Macs before, but I'm not all that Savy with them. What I need is a walkthrough on how to do certain things:
I want to backup the hard drive of the Mac, including the OS, and all the included programs.I want to wipe the hard drive, and install Ubuntu as a single OS.I want to take the backed up OSX and run that in VirtualBox, with full functionality: (internet, video making, graphic work, multimedia, etc)After that, I want to install Windows 7 as another guest OS, but I think I can handle that.
I installed ubuntu 10.10 using wubi installer, on win 7 64 bit system. how can I migrate from wubi install to standard install. I want to get rid of issues like free disk space and suspend/hibernate not supported in wubi ubuntu. Will LVPM help. I saw on the page it says that it does not supports wubi 10.04. Not sure what version I have, just installed the latest from ubuntu's site.
Our business is replacing Microsoft Windows with Ubuntu (Linux) but there is one or two problems with the main computer in the office. One the main computer is my Dad's computer and the only thing he does differently then the other computers is that he does his accounting which he uses Simply Accounting and I don't think Simply Accounting is compatible with Ubuntu/Linux.
I found a great, simple accounting program for Ubuntu called Eqonomize. It doesn't have to be that one, but anyone where we can convert are data from Simply Account to an accounting program with Ubuntu.
I have two partition in my netbook (plus swap): /dev/sda4 with Ubuntu 10.4 /dev/sda5 with Centos 5.5 I use Ubuntu obviously. Centos is there because I need to run some test on that distro. The problem is Centos uses Grub and Ubuntu uses Grub2.
This is /boot/grub/menu.lst from Centos: Code: default=0 timeout=5 splashimage=(hd0,4)/boot/grub/splash.xpm.gz title CentOS (2.6.18-194.17.4.el5xen) root (hd0,4) kernel /boot/xen.gz-2.6.18-194.17.4.el5 module /boot/vmlinuz-2.6.18-194.17.4.el5xen ro root=LABEL=/1 rhgb quiet module /boot/initrd-2.6.18-194.17.4.el5xen.img .....
This was generated running update-grub2 and grub-install under Ubuntu. It's not working. It gives me something like bad magic number. How can I convert the grub1 entry in a grub2 shape?
I have a very old laptop with no CD and no Floppy and a BIOS that won't boot from a USB device.I wanted to install Ubuntu on it though so I pulled the hard drive and connected it to my Macbook via a USB-to-PATA adapter. I booted the Macbook off the live CD and tried to install Ubuntu to the USB drive but the install wanted to update the boot partition on my Macbook which I would prefer not to do (I run Ubuntu on the Macbook in a VM). Instead, I used the Startup Disk Creator in Ubuntu 10.04 to make the hard drive from the old laptop an Ubuntu Startup Disk. I put it back in the laptop and it works fine, but when you boot it asks if you want to install Ubuntu and of course you can't because there is no available disk.
I thought about pulling the drive and doing this all again but splitting the drive into two partitions so I could make one partition the startup disk and install to the other, but I was not sure this would work. The disk in question is only 12 GB so I don't have a lot of space to work with. Also, this particular laptop is a huge pain to get the drive out of so if I can somehow fix this without removing the drive again that would be awesome. If there was some way to just convert the startup disk to a "regular" installation that would be ideal.
