Ubuntu Networking :: OpenVPN Bridge - Cannot Get Faster Connection

Dec 5, 2010

I have an openvpn bridge up and running (ubuntu to ubuntu, both in vmware fusion machines on macs). My problem is that I cannot get a connection faster than ~9mbps even though 20+mbps is available. I've been troubleshooting for a while and have tried many fixes. I just now did ethtool tap0 and I think maybe I found it. It says the link is 10mbps. I tried to change it with:
sudo ethtool -s tap0 speed 100
but it says ethtool cant change speed on tap0. How can i define the link speed of tap0?

OpenSUSE Network :: X64 Xen Bridge Configured But No Br0 And No Internet Connection?

Mar 12, 2011

I have installed opensuse 11.4 xen on a HP ML115 G5 AMD Opteron server, which previously hosted a fully working opensuse 11.3 xen. The problem seems to be that br0 is not showing as a bridge device in network settings. When I first installed opensuse 11.4 networking was available via dhcp, I then installed the xen tools and answered the prompt to create a bridge, it was only when I re-booted the system that I lost my network connection.

Going back into network settings I compared the settings to an existing working opensuse 11.3 xen install that I have and noticed that br0 is not showing as a bridge device in network settings so cannot be selected, in fact no bridged devices are shown.

Security :: Mount 2 Network Interface Card (NIC) And Make A Bridge

Apr 1, 2010

Actually i'm doing an ingenior training in SAGEM company, well i'm trying to develop an application which is able ti disturb the IP Network,my idea was is to mount 2 Network Interface Card (NIC) and make a bridge to pass the IP flow and to exploit the firewall Netfilter using iptables command.The application has to import a text file containing a binary array like this one:

0 1 0 : 0 corresponds to iptables -p ip ACCEPT
1 1 1 : 1 corresponds to iptables -p ip DROP
0 0 1

==> So the expected result is to have 5 ip datagrams dropped

My idea was: if 0 --> iptables -A FORWARD -p ip -m limit --limit-burst 1 -j ACCEPT
if 1 --> iptables -A FORWARD -p ip -m limit --limit-burst 1 -j DROP

The problem was: After executing the application and parsing the text file,
with iptables -L -v: i have

Code:
-A FORWARD -p ip -m limit --limit-burst 1 -j ACCEPT
-A FORWARD -p ip -m limit --limit-burst 1 -j DROP
-A FORWARD -p ip -m limit --limit-burst 1 -j ACCEPT

which is logic, but when i sniff with wireshark i find more packets are dropped(6,7 or 8 are dropped), like i had put more DROP rules. and sometimes i found the exact value(usually 5 dropped).

Ubuntu Security :: SSL Connection In The Software Center?

Dec 3, 2010

I'd like to buy some stuff from the Software Center but I don't see how to confirm a valid certificate or see any indication of a secure connection on the screen where I enter my credit card info. Of course, I'm sure the page IS secure because who would design it otherwise (especially considering how our patron made his first fortune), and I could sniff out the network connection, but I don't see any information provided to the end user.

It seems like it could open up Canonical to all sorts of legal issues to not have security info and a privacy policy easily available in the payment section of the USC. Maybe it's there and I've missed it somehow. maybe it is on the next page, but I didn't press the "submit" button.

So let's say I bring my computer to a public place, say a library with one open, public, shared wireless network. I connect to that network. Let's assume that everyone else who's connected is using Windows. Can they see my computer (through Network Manager or other software) and attack it (SYN flood or something)? Or does it depend on the network settings?

Security :: Ubuntu Remote Desktop Connection Breech?

Apr 27, 2010

I was working on my desktop under Ubuntu 9.10 when I got a message in the the upper right telling me that my Remote Desktop Connection had been activated. I don't know who it was, but they proceeded to open up a terminal and start typing a bunch of stuff. This scared the living @#$^ out of me, so I didn't really pay attention to what he was doing and immediately dove for the reset button. I disconnected my network from the web and found that RDC was NOT password protected.

Now, I probably did this a little while ago while I was playing around with it, but I also set up an account with dyndns.org. Would this possibly increase the number of attacks on my network? Just in case, I have removed my listing. Also, would any of this incident be logged somewhere? How/Where would I look to see if I'm being poked and prodded for another security hole?
