Ubuntu Security :: Keeps Asking For Wireless Password And Doesn't Connect

I have cross posted as it is not really a wireless network problem (wireless networking works fine) but a wireless security problem (WEP and WPA security kill wireless networking).I am not total sure which forums it should be in.From original post in networking and wireless forum:I am having a heap of issues with wireless and hopefully the following will help someone out there in guru land help me fix this problem.It seems to be more then a simple computer to wireless security problem. This is long, get a cuppa and a cumfy seat and yes this did take me the better part of 1/2 a day to complete all this testing
I volunteer my various machines and time to try and fault find the issue on all machines to help the developers to fix this problem on mine and I can document everything. Hopefully this will help someone fix wireless security on Linux once and for all.

I've just literally gone out this morning and bought the Belkin N300 Dual Band USB for my Deskstation running Maverick Meerkat. At first i put the stick in and nothing happened. So i went to System>admin>Windows wireless drivers and clicked on there. I put the CD in the drive that came with the dongle and found the drivers folder on the disk. I then installed the .inf file in the XP folder. It connected straight away as easy as that.
I'm really frustrated though as it loses conectivity and then asks me for my WAP password on connection, but then doesn't seem to connect. I unplug the dongle and then hit connect again and it connects.
If i use the same dongle on XP i have no problems what so ever, so i know its not a signal strength issue.

when i would mount a drive (internal, external, ntfs) in 9.10 it would ask for the root password. now 10.04 doesn't do that. how can i go back to that scenario?

I had the same problem with normal ubuntu, wubi or even after instaling it in a virtual pc
I've got a wireless router with a WEP security, when I choose my connection and put in the key it just tries for some time and then ask me again for the WEP key. And it goes like this on and on and on, I've tried to connect at some firends gome with the same kind of connection and it doesn't work either.
I think that in an older version I did connect to an unprotected connection but I cannot take out the protection because it is my roomsmate wifi.

My goal is this: Allow a user to connect to a server via SSH with any login name or password without checking to see if that account exists on that server. Their account would be captured by a universal account say, 'generic_user', and then they would be directed to one of my python scripts with the username and password they supplied for initial login. At this point my script would capture their SSHD process ID and allow/deny their existence based upon a MySQL/Subscription check.
The part I'm having trouble with is with PAM and allowing the user to login with any credentials and be successfully authenticated under the generic account. Beyond that, everything is great.

I recently was able to network 2 computers at home and I wanted to make my password more secure. When I try to edit my password via System>Administration>Users and Groups, it doesn't workI am able to edit my user settings. When I change my password I enter my old one and it accepts my new one. Problem is when I try to install programs, login and do other things it only accepts my old password. How can I change my password?

I'm running Ubuntu 10.4 Netbook Remix on a Dell Mini Netbook 9 (I think that's what it is.) I used to be able to connect to my wireless internet fine, but then my brother put a password on it. So there's a little box that comes up and tells me to enter a password now. I do, and it tries to load for a minute and then wants me to enter my password again. It just keeps going like this.

Is there a way i can setup my computer so i can connect to my wireless network without the use of an admin password? i personally feel that it wouldn't be a security risk of any sort to not require a password to connect to an ecrypted wireless connection.

I am running 10.10 and i have an asus N13 and it works BUT it will only connect to G networks i believe i have an Asus rtn16 N router with WPA2 Aes encryption and it wont connect it just keeps asking me for password.

I keep getting a "bad password" error message when trying to connect via wpa_supplicant to a wireless network (Apple Time Capsule WPA/WPA2 mixed).

I facing a really annoying problem. I download regularly during the night using Wifi. The problem is that because I'm away, the wireless just disconnects and the pop window shows up asking me to into the password. The password is already saved in the windows so I just have to click 'connect'ut I don't understand why does it disconnect and when it tries to connect it asks for password again!y doesn't it simply 'try' to connect without asking the password when it is already saved.

When I firsts installed Ubuntu 10.04, and tried to hook it up to my wireless network it noticed my connection and accepted my password, but did not connect. My wireless card doesn't have linux drivers installed. I found the correct drivers, but I am unsure of the correct way to install them in Windows so they work in Ubuntu. I am currently dual booting Windows 7 and Ubuntu.

Have an issue with my wireless.It sometimes doesn't connect to my wireless. And sometimes when it does it gives me an invalid IP address.I have a lenovo SL400 Laptop.Intel 802.11agn wireless is my adaptor. And I have OpenSuse 11.4 with gnome. I works fine if I give it a static IP Address but that will create an issue with other computers on the network.Is my desktop environment (GNOME) or is my Wireless adpator not compatible with opensuse.

so my wireless isn't working. My netbook wireless detects the available networks but when I try to connect it doesn't. i'm experiencing some weird behaviour: I have a server running ubuntu 10.04 and two Apple laptops in my home network. Sometimes after booting up the server doesn't connect to the wireless network, but instead "kills" the connection of the laptops. (The network then isn't available for about two minutes - it's showing but it can't connect) On the server the network interface is up, but not associated.
Sometimes the interface isn't configured properly (iwconfig isn't showing an entry) - but in this case the behaviour obviously isn't showing. some information about my system:
Ubuntu Version: Server 10.04x64
Wireless Card: Netgear WG311v3 with marvell chipset
Driver: ndiswrapper+mrv8335x64

I have a dell d800 laptop using a hp 802abg nic and it doesn't properly initialize until gnome desktop is loadedI'm using 128 bit key and a hidden network name.I would like to have wireless networking running before /etc/rc.local is executed at boot time to connect to nfs shares.after gnome is loaded and I login to user account, wireless networking starts and connects.When I set inittab to 3 and boot machine, ifconfig and iwcfg report card doesn't exist, when I then telinit 5 and start x/gnome card gets properly setupis it possible the card doesn't get initialize3ed because the network key needs to be entered in a file somewhere that the boot sequence can access it and init the card properly?

I bought a Letux 400 mini netbook and it works fine except for wireless Ethernet. It finds wireless networks, including mine, and then pretends to connect, after asking for a password, but finally never connects. I tried reconfiguring the wireless network from g to b/g and finally to b only, but nothing changed. Cable connection works. Unfortunately all relevant Letux Web pages are hopelessly slow and certainly too slow to use the forum and ask questions there. why the thing doesn't connect and how to make it connect? If it recognises networks, shouldn't it be able to connect as well?

I know this has probably been asked too many times here but I need to secure my emails. Personal matters of course. But yeah. I use the program "Password and Encryption Keys" to generate a key to sign my emails with but I do not know what to do. To be blunt, I'm stupid when it comes to this. IF not, steps in creating a key? and giving it (my public key) to the significant other? Finding where both keys are? Implementing it into Thunderbird? I migrated an old SuseLinux 10 box to Debian (Lenny) a couple months ago, and apparently no one noticed you can't change your password. Root can do it because passwd doesn't ask root for a password, but no one else can (although they can log in, passwd doesn't recognize their login password when they attempt to set a new password and it asks).I changed authentication to use blowfish when I setup the server (because the SuseLinux 10 system used it) and apparently the passwd command doesn't work with that. Apparently I need to update another configuration file or possibly get a different program to update the passwd file if I use blowfish. Any ideas?
The weird thing is that it can generate a blowfish hash to set a new password, but apparently can't generate one to authenticate the user.something changed recently and it is no longer generating a blowfish hash when setting a new password. It is generating a hash with only 13 characters. And I can clearly see that many users have changed their passwords.

I already posted a topic similar to this concerning the Desktop OS version, but this deals with the Netbook because unlike the Desktop, the Netbook is less cooperative. Allow me to elaborate: Today (or rather yesterday since it's not after midnight where I am), I changed my password because I was hopelessly confounded about how to get my Wireless Network card up and running after it had been installed and I was allowing my dad to use it. This issue has since been resolved, however...
When I chose my password during the original installation, there was no mention of it being "too simple." This is where the Desktop OS and the Netbook OS differ. The desktop will let me change it in the terminal without any errors. The Netbook will not. When I've attempted to revert it back to the original, it will not let me do so in the User Profile or in the Terminal. The Passwords and Encryption Keys application also does not appear to help.
So now even after I've changed it to a different "complicated" password I am still prompted to insert two different passwords since I changed my user password but I am unable to change the password I input during the installation. A bit screwy methinks. This is extremely important. I'd like to know how to change the original installation password.
If I can't change the main password on my laptop then this is a serious potential security breach just waiting to happen (especially since it's on a laptop and I will be hauling it around with me) and I will most likely install a different OS if this isn't resolved --- It would be very unfortunate since I spent the whole day fixing it and I really enjoy the interface. Luckily I can live with this on my Desktop since I'm not going to be hauling it around with me everywhere when the school year starts.

I have a database created by an older program (not Access) that I need to open and retrieve information for my business. The manufacturer put a password on there so that only it's program could open it. I do not use that program, but it has information I need. Is there a way to find that password or circumvent the password altogether?

My wireless (Toshiba laptop, 10.04 64 bit) is just hanging when trying to connect. It was working fine but now nothing. My Wireless antennae is on and my other laptop can connect with no problems. I have restarted the router and the laptop twice.
