Ubuntu Security :: ClamAV Cant Upgrade Or Install??
Dec 10, 2010what a horrendous piece of software. Ive been at it 3 days trying to do something that ought to be simple and everytime i solve one problem another problem arises. at first I removed the old clamav 9.5 or something. I got the latest ubuntu release btw, and Clamav used to work when i first installed it in the previous ubuntu release. anyway, it asked me to upgrade, so since synaptic doesnt have the latest, i downloaded from sourceforge. I did the whole ./configure gave me errors like need build-essentials-- which i then did, error: need zlib.dv--- I did that one too. Now two more errors that i need to fix so I can compile it.

Apr 21, 2010I downloaded the latest ClamAV (clamav-0.96-27.1.x86_64.rpm) from the opensuse ftp site and when i double-click on the RPM and choose 'install' it says this:[PK_TMP_DIR|dir:///var/tmp/TmpDir.h1Oz1u] Repository already exists.I looked in the software manager in opensuse to see if it has the latest ClamAV package but it doesn't have the latest package or any package of ClamAV.

Apr 4, 2010Im currently trying to update my Suse 11.1 copy of Linux.
I got some messages that Clamav was not up to date.
I tried to use YUM which I installed on the machine but that did nothing.
It seems that I can only update Clamav by using Klamav.
Whats happening is that the system is telling me that its going to recompile Clamav, starts doing various tasks but doesnt really work.
When I use YUM on my CentOS 5.3 server it simply updates Clamav to the current version and then I use Freshclam to update the virus definitionsdone.
My questions is this; is there anyway to get the latest version of Clamav without going through the that Klamav thing. Klamav seems O.K. for updating the virus definitions but thats all.
Whats wrong with all the Linux software people?
Cant they just get their act together and make their software work. Im also trying to set up a mail server on my Suse 11.1 box but between figuring out how to install Postfix, Dovecot, Cirus-IMAP Im not getting anywhere.
As much as I hate to say this, these things only seem to be rocket science on Linux. I have much less problems installing software on Windoz.
Linux software people need to come up with workable install programs for their software products so more people who arent software experts can make Linux really workable.

May 26, 2010I am trying to upgrade my clam AV to latest 0.9.6.1. Last times I just uploaded to the server and used RPM command and it was installing. Now I cant find RPM for this ver. So I guess I need to prepare one.

Security :: Computer Is INFECTED According To ClamAV?
Apr 11, 2010I recently ran a virus scan on my CentOS server using ClamAV's "clamscan" command to scan my entire system for virus. After the scan was complete it says that I have 1 infected file on my computer. I COMPLETELY FREAKED OUT! Is there some kind of log that I should read to see where the infected files are? Also, my engine is 0.96.5. The latest version is 0.97. But "aptitude upgrade" can not upgrade the engine to 0.97. I understand 0.97 is still on testing. I am wondering if I can just stay with 0.96.5 and wait for the 0.97 passing all tests. if so, does it cause any security issue?
Ubuntu Security :: Clean Windows Partition With ClamAV
May 30, 2011My windows partition is infected and I recall that it is supposed to be possible from the linux partition with ClamAV. Now I'm running Fedora12 but this forum is much more active and I suppose that doesn't make a big difference. I tried to find something on google but most procedures seem to involve a Live CD but it would be more convenient for me to just do it from my linux distro running. Is there anything I have to be aware of or is it literally just scanning the windows partition with ClamAV?

What seems strange to me is that such a warning always happens (or, at least, in the most cases) in the same folder tree "sys" and ClamAV issues the very same virus/malware warning (Exploit.PDF-9669).

Sep 6, 2010I'm noodling around with Ubuntu 10.4.1, latest updates and kernel (2.6.32.24?).Anyway, I run ClamAv as root and it goes fine through almost all of my system (huge amount of it), including several virtual devices, where it hangs on pan0, which has some association with my network (eth0 would be for wired connection, and wlan0 for wireless, and pan0 is listed also, but I'm not at that machine right now, so I can't tell why it shows up. wlan0 is what I use to connect to the internet).Is there an issue for clamAV with virtual devices? Any workaround? I had to terminate the scan after it stayed hung for over 5 minutes on pan0.

Apr 21, 2010I am running Zimbra 5.0.2 with ClamAV and I need to upgrade clam anti virus. It's for a Centos 5.4, Dell PE 2950 machine. On their Wiki for upgrades at [URL]. They recommended either of the Red hat versions - Redhat 5.x 32-bit or the Redhat 5.x 64-bit. Are there any known problems using either of these two versions on my Centos machine? Also, want to make sure, I am assuming I need the 32 bit version, is this correct? I am asking because in the past I have learned sometimes it's better to not go with the RH versions on Centos, can't remember where I heard that, so I want to make sure before I do the install.
