Ubuntu :: Second CD Not Mounting?

Jul 21, 2011

I'm having a problem installing a software under wine1.3.24, the first cdrom is alright installing but when it asks for the second cdrom disk it doesn't mount nor load but if I stop the installation it then detects the cd and loads-up. Is this a known bug under wine if it isn't how do I get it to detect the second cdrom.

Ubuntu :: Long Disk-activity-pause On Boot - Between Mounting Root And Mounting Swap?

Jul 14, 2011

Just the last day or so, I've noticed a long pause when I boot my laptop, with lots of disk activity. dmesg says:

Why would there be a 15-second pause (during which the disk is slammed) between mounting root and mounting swap? During this time I see nothing but a blank purple screen, there are no cycling dots or text scroll. Is this normal and I'm just freaking out over nothing because there's no indicator of progress? Networking :: Mounting Permissions Error / Mounting A Windows Host?

May 28, 2009

I am having permissions errors every time I try to mount a windows host. I have a linux server and all the windows computers can see that computer and its files, but we wanted to start backing up the linux machine to one of our other computers. so I tried to mount one of the computers. here is the sequence of events:

Code:
$mount -t cifs //192.168.1.194/Admin$ /mnt/Anita-comp
password: (I have no password so I left it blank)
Mount error (13): Permission Denied
I tried all sorts of passwords we use around the office and none of them worked.

I then decided to try mounting one of our other computers. this one looked like it worked fine. no error messages at all. (I left password blank) so I look in my filesystem and the mounted drive is not in the /mnt/Anita-comp file. What gives?

Ubuntu :: USB Not Mounting EEEPC / What To Do?

Dec 11, 2010

Heres the background: Im running 10.10 desktop on an Asus EeePC. Ive managed to rectify most common problems, but it will not mount a USB. It does not come up in the places menu - I have to manually mount it in the terminal.

However, i can only READ the documents, i cannot edit or save documents to the USB disk - it opens ion read only mode. (Im using open office 3.2 by the way).

I have tried doing this with a new document. It will not save, it is saying the location does not exist and cannot mount the USB. I know this is a mounting USB problem exclusively as it will save documents and allow me to edit them from the home folder, the desktop and the documents folder.

When I open gparted, the blue LED will blink a few times on the hdd. When I go to change devices in gparted all I get is /dev/sda. If I plug in an thumg drive then I will get the options of /dev/sda and /dev/sdc. So I think that it knows that /sdb is there

Ubuntu :: Mounting My IPod To 11.04 ?

I've been having a nightmare mounting my iPod to 11.04. It's just one of the older 4gig ipods I've been desperately trying to mount on as my only computers run Ubuntu.

First it wouldn't even try, it gave me the superblock error. Then I stupidly proceeded to format the iPod with disk utility, thinking that the file format was to fault. Now, it does appear in my home folder, but clicking on the iPod icon, it gives me- "unable to mount Ipod : mount: special device /dev/sdc2 does not exist".

I'm using a software that needs to read data from a cdrom. The instructions say to mount the cdrom (mount /mnt/cdrom). I understand that I need to mount the cdrom to /mnt/cdrom. I created a folder "cdrom" under "mnt". Then I tried to mount the cdrom by typing:

sudo mount /media/ /mnt/cdrom/ This didn't work. Under "media" I have another folder with the actual cd content so I tried to mount it too, but again with no success. I keep getting an error that "media is not a block device". What I am doing wrong?

Ubuntu :: Mounting HDD Image Of LVM Partition

Mar 13, 2010

I have a dedicated server that Ubuntu 9.04 operating system has been installed on it. Before this dedicated server, I had another server that according to some reasons, it was put aside and I requested my datacenter support team to attach previous server's HDD to my new server in order to transfer its information to the new server's HDD. On the disks of previous HDD, Ubuntu 8.04 LTS OS had been installed and most of its capacity was full, but while I mounted that HDD on the new server, the contents of the primary partition were visible but the contents of the extended partition weren't visible. After some inspectings, I observerd that the extended partition type is converted to LVM. Before this, I didn't deal with this kind of partition. I tried to mount this partition but I failed. I read many articles about this problem and implemented instructions on the HDD but the LVM partition was never mounted that returns many different errors and even I pursued the reasons of this errors but non of these remedies didn't solve this problem. Since the datacenter had determined a specifies time for transfering information. then I had to return the SCSI HDD on the specified time, so I was forced to make an image of the hard disk by "TestDisk" software. I've made that image from the LVM partition which its capacity amounts to 150 GB but still I'm not able to mount the image according to instructions on the different related websitres. Since I'm really dummy in Linux Fle System field, I request you to help me to mount this image or extract its contents.

Quote: "Disk drive for /hdba/sda7 is not ready yet or not present" "Continue to wait, or press S to skip mounting or M for manual recovery" If I press S then I have an ALMOST working system. You see: I have an external USB hard drive, shared between XP and Ubuntu with all my files in it, and it won't mount. It's a simpletech and it was working just before the update and it loads, mounts and unmounts perfectly on windows and on another laptop I've got running crunchbang!. I can see the disk in "Media" but says I have not enough permissions to see its contents.

Ubuntu / Apple :: Mounting ISO During Installation?

Do I really have to buy a CD and burn the ISO image in order to install Ubuntu or could I just mount the ISO from somewhere?

Ubuntu :: GRUB2 Not Mounting Drive?

Jun 10, 2010

I'm having a problem on startup where GRUB seems to time out attempting to mount my main drive. Here is the error it gives me:

Quote:

Gave up waiting for root device. Common problems:

-Boot args (cat /proc/cmdline)
- Check rootdelay= (did the system wait long enough?)
- Check root= (did the system wait for the right device?)
-Missing modules (cat /proc/modules; ls /dev)

ALERT! /dev/disk/by-uuid/b1517926-aba4-47d1-81f0-42ca5dd36257 does not exist. Dropping to a shell!

I am given a initramfs shell. Sometimes waiting a couple of minutes and then typing 'exit' works. However, I've noticed if I do this:

Code:
(initramfs) mount /dev/disk/by-uuid/b1517926-aba4-47d1-81f0-42ca5dd36257 /root
(initramfs) exit

my laptop will boot.

I'm really not sure what the issue is, or how to even start to resolve it.. I'm not sure what the issue is, since

Ubuntu :: 10.04 Bug NO BOOT / Mounting None On / Dev Failed

Jun 22, 2010

I've googled this issue ad nauseum but alas my poor PC is still quiet as a church mouse.I was prompted to upgrade to 10.04 and, despite knowing better by now (I seem to file a severe bug report following each upgrade), I chose to allow the upgrade to move forward due to a driver problem I thought might be fixed in the new version. The upgrade took over 9 hours but did complete and I rebooted afterwards. I never got my PC back, it's stuck during bootup on "mounting none on /dev failed".

Be cautious with advice. There is no menu.lst any more, this is Grub2.I have booted off of the Live CD and run the grub-install and mkconfig. I have edited grub to try different menu options by default. Each time, grub builds with 2 different kernels listed, neither of which are correct.
