Ubuntu :: Panel Background Doesn't Appear Behind Icons?
Sep 5, 2010Say I set a background color or custom image to a panel. The notification icons (sound, net activity, clock, etc) and a few other icons (trash, desktop) appear to retain the default background. Looks kind of funky. Any way I can make these icons conform to my custom background?

Sep 2, 2010I am using Rhel5 and I'm new to linux so pardon me for sounding a bit green around the ears.Anyway..I got an error message a few weeks ago about how the start up script that displays icons on the far right of my start panel was malfunctioning and it was going to be deleted from the start-up. didn't really know what it really meant and I just clicked ok.wireless eth0 status icon as well as my amarok status icon are hidden on the start panel. How do I get it back/add that script back to the start-up

Apr 24, 2010I'm fairly new to the Ubuntu world but have been simply amazed by what it can do. Someone told me to install Mac4Lin after I was done and I've done that. The desktop looks a lot more like a Mac especially after installing AWN. I do have a bit of a problem and would be very grateful for any assistance here. My taskbar is set to a background pattern which gives it the OSX look. However, towards the left side where the menu's reside, there is a bit which does not show the background pattern and instead has a dull grey color. I've been searching around for where I can tweak that bit to also have the the same pattern as the taskbar but have had no luck. Attached is a screenshot.

Jan 5, 2010My mouse cursor has acquired some strange background image showing what looks to be paragraphs of chinese glyphs (they are too small to make out clearly). This background image is contained in rougly a 1 inch square with the mouse cursor hot spot in the upper left-hand corner. The mouse cursor is visible, but whatever is under those glyphs is covered.
I've tried the mouse configuration gui -- but it says nothing of background images for the mouse. I've also deleted and recreated my xconfig.org file to see if that somehow got mangled. I've been searching the web for a couple of hours, but cant seem to find anything related to my problem.
OpenSUSE Hardware :: Synaptic Touchpad In 11.3 - Strange Behaviour With Dragging And Middle Click
Jul 19, 2010One strange and little annoying issue I notice with my openSUSE 11.3 installation is my Synaptic touchpad behaves way too strange.... Dragging a window or icon - half way around - a click is generated (probably a middle click I guess) and I need to re-drag it again.... In the browser when I try to select a text - again by dragging - a middle click gets generated... The same happens when I use gvim in visual mode too - I end up pasting the code I had selected halfway because of the middle click....
Middle click can be generated only if I press both left and right click buttons - which I'm pretty sure I'm not.... I tried playing around with the touchpad settings but no good.... I'm not able to find anything related to the middle click on the settings application... My touchpad works fine in Ubuntu and was in 11.2 as well.... Yes it works fine in Xp too.

According to this five year old thread, GTK libraries didn't support transparency in the tray area back then, but surely this must've been fixed by now? There are even some links to bugfixes in that very thread, but I'm hesitant to apply something that old. What to do?

Fedora :: Cannot Click Icons At The Bottom Of Programs?
Mar 26, 2010I encountered a problem clicking icons at the bottom of programs.An example: I was in Firefox and went to use the 'find' bar at the bottom Firefox application window. However, I couldn't click on it.I could interact with it through keyboard commands, but not by using the mouse. Later that day I tried using Openoffice.org Writer and when I went to click on a toolbar at the bottom of the application window I couldn't choose any of the icons with the mouse... The odd thing is that this only occurs when the bottom of the window is at the lowest point on the screen.(note: I have Avant Window Navigator running, so it isn't literally the bottom of the screen, just the lowest point the window can go.)Does anyone have any thoughts on what might be causing the problem, or maybe how to fix it---------- Post added at 10:25 PM CDT ---------- Previous post was at 09:42 PM CDT ----I just figured out that AWN is causing the problem. Apparently it's regulating more area than it's supposed to. So it's cutting off interaction with the bottom of the window.

Jan 13, 2010I am running CentOS 5.4, which I am occasionally managing via VNC from windows machine. This all occured after one long VNC session although I can't confirm this was the real reason. I also must say that I've seen some posts from people that had the same problem, but not anything helpful. Here is what happens:
Even if I start the machine from scratch I get the following error messages just before the login prompt and type of session window shows:
COULDN'T RECOGNIZE THE IMAGE FILE FORMAT FOR THE FILE '/USR/SHARE/GDM/THEMES/TREEFLOWER/BACKGROUND.PNG
THERE WAS AN ERROR LOADING THE THEME AND THE DEFAULT THEME COULD NOT BE LOADED. ATEMPTING TO START THE STANDARD GREETER.
If I choose GNOME and login I get more errors (for every icon I guess) saying:
COULD NOT LOAD ICON. UNRECOGNIZED FILE FORMAT.
Desktop then loads but there is no background image (other backgrounds don't work either) and the icons are question marks. All the menus and programs work normally.
KDE on the other hand works normally with all visuals, so I assume there must be something wrong with GDE PNG library or something, maybe GDE corruption. If I make another user it's the same story.
Ubuntu :: Background Colors In Panel Apps?
Jul 23, 2010Alright, this has been driving me bonkers for months now and I can't find the answer anywhere. I like the custom theme options with standard gnome just fine, plenty of adjustments that can be made, with only one adjustment missing which would create perfection (at least in my opinion).
How on earth is it possible to change the backgrounds of the "mini-panels" which are always grey by default? No matter which Theme I choose and customize, I can never get the background color of the time/date applet, monitors, evolution, garbage can, and so on to change. I'd like to make all of the backgrounds transparent, not just the main panels that contain the other stuff. Is this even possible, and if so, how?I'm assuming since all of those apps have the same default color that an adjustment "wherever" would then change those default colors on all of the applets (hopefully).
Ubuntu :: Alternate Panel Background For Ambiance?
Jun 20, 2011having just begun using 11.04 I think this panel background, with its smooth gradient, gives the default theme a lift, especially on displays that aren't very flattering to the original background like my laptop's. This panel.bg file, dumped in my Ubuntu One storage and linked here, goes in usr/share/themes/Ambiance/gtk-2.0/apps/img (press alt F2, type gksu nautilus and enter your password and then navigate there) and you might want to c&p somewhere the one that's there first in case you disagree with me... You need to reboot or login to see the change of course.It was made from cropping a screenshot of the Ambiance window border and then turning it upside down. [URL]
