Ubuntu Security :: Keyring Password - Why And How To Stop Being Asked For It?

Sep 28, 2010

When I installed Ubuntu (Lucid) on my new computer, As well as the login password I was asked for a keyring password. I gave one, but I am not sure exactly why I need this password. It seems that it was required to let me access the wifi - even though this has its own security code. I found I could stop the system asking for it every time I tried to connect to the internet using wifi by checking a button in the network setup, but when I registered for Ubuntu One, I was again asked for it - twice, once when I registered and again when I set up Tomboy notes sync. Now I get asked for it again every time I switch on.

I would like to know why the keyring passwords are needed in addition to the login password for a single user computer, which mine is and also how I can stop it asking for this password when I switch the computer on. One suggestion I have seen is to make the keyring password the same as my login password. If that is the case, then how do I change the keyring password?

Ubuntu :: No Longer Asked For Password/keyring Prompt At Start-up?

Sep 1, 2010

Been having trouble connecting to the internet and i am no longer being asked for password/keyring prompt at start-up. Something the prompt comes up 5-15 minutes after start-up.

I even manually set 'password at login' but it doesn't even ask me for that?

ps: over here

HTML Code:

i found something about Avahi potentially causing a conflict with network configuration - so i typed the following command and am now online at least:

sudo stop avahi-daemon
sudo sed -e '/^start/,+1s/^/#/' /etc/init/avahi-daemon.conf

Ubuntu Networking :: Wireless Not Working Despite Icon Showing 100% - Asked For Keyring Password Twice

Dec 15, 2010

Until this morning, my Wireless had always been working fine. This morning I rebooted after an Ubuntu update and now:

- I am asked twice for "enter password for keyring 'default' to unlock" whereas before I was always just asked once.

- The connection seems to be established, with the icon showing good reception and the tooltip reads "Wireless network connection 'mywifi' active: mywifi (100%)

BUT I can not connect to any website or ping the machines of my network, even by IP address. All of the other computers around (Mac, Windows) can use the Wireless as usual. My Wireless is WPA-PSK TKIP hidden SSID. My Ubuntu is 10.10 Maverick.

The keyring was set up when the laptop was running 8.04 (or possibly 7.10) but I managed to remove it some time ago. Now it has come back. How can I re-set the keyring or remove it?

Ubuntu Installation :: Keyring - Computer Is Set To Login Automatically ?

Jun 9, 2010

I upgraded to 10.04 this morning and all seems well except when the computer boots up I'm prompted to enter my password to unlock the login keyring.

Until I do that I can't do anything else, including getting a screengrab of the prompt, hence the attachment was taken with my mobile phone.

I didn't have to do this in 9.10 and don't remember changing anything to stop this.

My computer is set to login automatically so I don't really want the bother of entering my password (I know, I know, security, etc etc).

Software :: Ubuntu 10.04 - VNC - When Computer Starts Up/reboots It Doesn't - Unlock The System Keyring

Nov 11, 2010

I've got a computer i'm trying to VNC to.

The problem is that when the computer starts up/reboots it doesn't "Unlock the system keyring"(I think that's what it said).

When I try and attempt to connect to the computer it asks for the VNC password(as per normal) but fails to connect after that.

The reason is that the Ubuntu computer prompts for the user's password to unlock the system(locally).

What I want is to be able to turn on the computer without having to worry about entering the password. I've had it running fine on 8.04 yet the newer version seems to be annoying :s

The system is set to automatically login on startup too.

I've tried this: "delete the keyring folder under /home/XXXX/.gnome2" then setup remote desktop again. But that hasn't worked either. I still have to enter the password to a keyring

OpenSUSE Network :: Keyring Password Window Appears When Connect To INTERNET Via DSL Connection

Jul 30, 2010

I'm a bit puzzled by new "keyring everywhere" feature, well the case: Now I'm using 11.3 brand new suse and just when I want to connect to INTERNET via my DSL connection, a keyring password window appears, well I fill in the keyring password and hit enter, then another window pops out with my DSL connection asking me to enter a password for my DSL connection (but I've already set it up it before) and ok, I enter my password hit enter, but DSL window pops out again! and nothing happens,

I do it several times like a puppet, then I delete my DSL connection and make it again, so everything works with passwords no(no keyring is being promted). SO what do I do wrong? How can I disable this keyring feature, I do not need it at all, why do I need to recreate my connection every single time?

is there a command line tool or an independent tool that i can launch forwarding x I can use to search for and connect to wifi networks that would also have the ability to save configuration so that when I reboot the system automatically connects to my wifi?

Ubuntu :: Panel: Paraylzed Computer - Unable To Right Click To Remove Or Change

Jan 16, 2011

I wanted to create another panel on my computer. I created one, which formed directly above one that I already had (at the bottom of one of my two screens). Just out of curiosity I asked it to autohide. That was a big mistake. Now, I am unable to right click to remove or change the panel (the right click menu doesn't appear). This is true for all my panels. I thought logging out might fix it. No luck. Restart. No luck. Now my "top level" panel won't load, which means I don't have access to any of the main menus at all. Basically, the only think I can access at this point is what is on my desktop.

Ubuntu Servers :: SSH Passphrase Only Asked Once?

Jan 29, 2011

I am a noob who is playing around with setting up a home print/file server using Ubuntu Server 10.04. I have successfully setup the server and am now configuring the SSH server so I can control remotely.

I have setup RSA keys with a passphrase as outlined in the SSH - Ubuntu Community Documentation. However, when I log in remotely I am only asked for the passphrase the first time. Any subsequent log-ins simply take a few seconds to connect without any passphrase request. After restarting my laptop (that I use to connect remotely), I am again asked for the passphrase only the first time and subsuquent logins are without a passphrase. I would like to know if this is normal and if there is a way to have passphrase requested on each login.
