Ubuntu :: Pyton Segemenation Fault Caused By Libselinux1
Mar 11, 2010
I have been trying to run python programs that use clutter in Ubuntu, but all programs end with a segmentation fault. I have traced this to a bug in linselinux1 (see:URL... I am using Jaunty, and can't seem to update to a newer version of libselinux1 which has the bug fixed because all the newer versions seem to be for Karmic of Lucid. The bug report mentions a fix, but it seems a bit to complex and confusing for me. Can anyone explain how to fix this? I'm doing a course in Python, and I really need this to work.

How to remove libselinux1?
Remove/purge is not working.
And removing it by hand breaks all other bins on Debian (ls, find, reboot, halt, etc, literally everything).

My laptop's been locking up in Linux (Ubuntu, Backtrack, Puppy) periodically for a while now. When it locked up, it was always immune to the magic of SysRq, which I thought might indicate a hardware problem. It became so bad that I had to stop using the laptop.
Today, when I turned it on and tried to boot into Fedora 12, I got the following error (just once, it just locked up at various points during the splash screen after this once):
double fault: 0000 [#1] SMP
last sysfs file:
CPU 0
odules linked in:
Pid: 1, co m: swapper Not ta nted 2.6.32.11-99.fc 2.x86_64 #VGN-T 250N
RIP: 0010:[<ff
All the seemingly missing letters were really missing, not my typos.
As you can see, kernel version is 2.6.32.11-99.fc12.x86_64 and my laptop is a Sony Vaio TZ 250N (Core 2 Duo ULV 1.2GHZ). Note that with the other remaining kernels from the updates, nothing ever happened other than the locking up. The core temperatures hover pretty high, about 55-60C peak but this is still below the critical temp. Memtest came up clean when the problem first started happening.

I would like to report my experience while using UNR 10.04.
Everytime I connect my Nokia handphone either as a mass storage mode (for transfering video/image) OR using my handphone as a 3.5G Modem.
While connected or even after I finished connecting my handphone for the above purposes, when I close down Chromium browser, the whole OS will freeze!! Neither keyboard or mouse would work. This thing does not happened if I'm using Firefox for browsing internet.
I have to do a hard restart to use my netbook again.
Chromium:
6.0.472.53 (57914) Ubuntu 10.04
UNR 10.04: with updated software packages
HP Mini 110-1006TU

As usual, I let the update manager run.. But now something bad happened and a red button is showing in the system tray, which when I hover my mouse over it, tells me to open package manager or try "sudo apt-get" in terminal to see what is wrong..
If I enter sudo apt-get upgrade, I get the following errors.. How can I fix it.. I am unable to open package manager itself..
Code:
E: Problem parsing dependency Depends
E: Error occurred while processing gconf2 (NewVersion1)
E: Problem with MergeList /var/lib/dpkg/status
E: The package lists or status file could not be parsed or opened.

Code:
sudo apt-get purge -y firestarter
I rebooted, only to find out that I now have no internet connection.

I am running a server at home, and on rare occasion my server will shut down. Is there a logfile I can check to determine whether the server was shutdown due to a script on the computer, a power loss, or someone hitting the power button? I am not by any means a linux guru, but I know enough to get around.

Is there any way to find out which device/event caused Ubuntu (10.10) to wake up from the most recent sleep/hibernation? I am trying to troubleshoot some sleep issues on a new box, and knowing what's causing it to wake up would help. I did check /var/log/pm-suspend.log but all it seems to say is Sat Dec 11 22:18:27 GMT 2010: Awake.

I have a truecrypt partition on an nvidia fakeraid raid0.ore there is no data recognizeable to ubuntu's kernel on startup and I think it is causing a big slowdown for me every time I boot up, which takes over ten minutes every time. Attached are bootchart results. What I would like to do is know how to remove dmraid from the startup process. I can't find any scripts in /etc/rc*.d and all of the information I can find on these forums is about how to enable dmraid on boot, not disable it.
Manually using dmraid takes nearly no time at all, which is what I did before this kernel upgrade since ubuntu didn't put dmraid in the startup process. I can't see why it takes dmraid ten minutes to detect raid devices now! The only clue I can see is that in the startup process with the splash screen disabled it talks about examining inodes on both drives in the array and then goes on to spit out stuff about raid 0, raid1, raid2, raid3, raid4 and on and on so it seems like it is loading raid arrays that don't exist and never have.If any bootchart gurus have any advice, please feel free to throw me a bone, I am in fear of restarting!edit: for some reason ubuntuforums shrank my images so that they are unreadable by anybody except those with a large projector.

I read somewhere that ISPs can cache files and that this will cause a hash sum mismatch when you try to open the file.
I have been trying to install scourge, and whether I go through the playdeb route, or compile by source route, in both cases the file is corrupt. With playdeb, the data folder has a hash sum mismatch. When I try and compile by source, the tarball can't extract (I'm thinking for the same reason).
If my ISP is causing this, how would I stop it, short of connecting to another network?

I think an update or something has killed Samba on my Karmic box. it can see Windows shares OK, but it no longer appears on the Windows network.I have not changed my smb.conf for months, so something else has been modified.Looking in the logs I can see the following in "log.winbindd-idmap" after restarting Samba
Code:
[2010/03/03 10:07:20, 0] winbindd/idmap.c:201(smb_register_idmap_alloc)
idmap_alloc module tdb already registered!
[2010/03/03 10:07:20, 0] winbindd/idmap.c:149(smb_register_idmap)
[code]...
All other networking seems fine (internet, Synergy+ etc) it's just sharing out to the Windows network that is broken.

I'm at the end of my rope here, and am extremely frustrated. I have a web server running on Ubuntu Server and am using OpenSSH for all my SSH and sftp needs. However, I have the strangest of all situations that I cannot for the life of me figure out.
I have a user chrooted to /var/www/username in /etc/ssh/sshd_config and in /etc/passwd. When the user is chrooted to that folder, whenever I try to log in through SFTP using any client, I get an error saying "Network error: Software caused connection abort." The kicker is, when I chroot the user to /var/www that user can log in just fine. I've tried changing every chmod and chown setting I can think of, and I have NO idea why it matters by one folder.
I had the jail working perfectly for about 2 hours, when it seemingly just decided to stop. What's really getting to me is why the two folders, which have the exact same settings, are not operating the same way.

Running a clean install of Lucid 64, I have a problem with the Firefox Java plugin with the "Live Timing" feature of the www,formula1.com site. Live Timing is an applet they provide that displays sector and lap time information for races, practice and qualifying sessions. It was working fine under Karmic 32 but no luck so far with Lucid 64.
Initially trying to start Live Timing caused Firefox to become unresponsive, I saw that the Java plugin being used was the IcedTea one, which I have heard can be a bit flakey. (Not sure what I was using under Karmic BTW).
I notice that the Sun proprietary Java stuff is installed - I presume when I installed ubuntu-restricted-extras. So I disabled the IcedTea plugin in Firefox and tried to use the Sun Java Moz plugin by creating a symlink to
Code:
/usr/lib/jvm/java-6-sun-1.6.0.20/jre/lib/amd64/libnpjp2.so
in
Code:
/usr/lib/mozilla/plugins
Firefox then lists the Sun proprietary plugin under addons - plugins but it doesn't actually seem to do anything, as I just get an empty Window with the Live Timing Applet.

I just updated a bunch of things on my system (10.10 x86_64) via synaptic and when I rebooted to finish the update everything looks horrible. All the Icons are different, taskbar is all gray, compiz is acting funny, and the top bar has different icons and coloring. I'm wondering what happened and how I can fix this... I'm guessing it might be the nvidia update, but I'm not sure, here is what I did for the update/install:
Upgraded the following packages:
libsmbclient (2:3.5.4~dfsg-1ubuntu8.4) to 2:3.5.4~dfsg-1ubuntu8.5
libwbclient0 (2:3.5.4~dfsg-1ubuntu8.4) to 2:3.5.4~dfsg-1ubuntu8.5
linux-headers-2.6.35-30 (2.6.35-30.54) to 2.6.35-30.56
[code]....
The only other thing I changed was to turn off the auto-login so I wouldn't have that damn keyring password dialog pop up during login.
Should I try downgrading the NVIDIA package update or look through any particular logs to see what happened?

I have several xen virtual machines but the issue is occurring only on the one of them. Sometimes (4 times per month) the server hung. I can ping this server on the network but I am not able to login to server using local console or ssh session.
[Code]...
I sounds like the issue is caused by some Java application. But I am not sure is this message is related to root cause or the Java is impacted as a result of issue.
Could you help me with this? I need more details regarding error message described below and I also need to identify the root cause and resolve the issue. Is there any way how to determine which Java application is causing this issue?

At 4:00 pm on 4/1/2009 I accepted the offer to dowload and install a number of small improvements. This has always worked in the past. This time there were a few problems with the install, but I went ahead and rebooted. It stopped at grub, stage2.
I am now trying the rescue feature of my install CD. I will report on this later.
As for the always possible hardware failure, I have a raid setup, so I was not expecting this.

Being new to linux I cannot figure out how to save the file after editing. I have been using: vi /etc/X11/xconfig.org to get to the file, but haven't been able to save the file.
the edit and save commands I need, I hate to do an entire install since this is about my 6th install.

I have a logitech coreless keyboard that has always "just worked" and I've lived without programming any keys, no factory. no tumbleweed, recent fresh re-install of 11.4, updated generally and with kde 4.6.5, xorg 7.6, nvidia driver 275.21 Mysteriously, the down arrow key no longer works as it should, (up, left, right are fine)
Rather it has the effect of crashing the transparent task manager and adjusting the focus of open windows. If I repeatedly hit the down arrow key the focus toggles and then transparency is re-enabled. The best way I can describe the effect is that it is as if I were using [tab] to toggle through a text based menu (e.g., YaST launch in terminal mode)

I'm trying to RMA a month old SSD, and they're giving me a hassle about it. The drive currently seems to work just fine, but I'm 95% sure that a few blocks went bad and corrupted some data about a week ago. I was able to mostly recover the data and correct for the bad blocks, but I don't really trust the drive anymore.
I'm running an up to date Debian Squeeze install with ext4 on this drive. My system started doing some bizarre things, to the point that it was unusable, so I rebooted it. As it was booting up, it complained about needing an fsck, which found dozens of non-trivial errors that it was mostly able to fix. It then proceeded to boot normally, except the drive mounted itself as read only (due to errors). Another fsck turned up a similar number of problems. This happened a couple of times before I ran fsck with '-c', which is supposed to scan for and work around bad blocks. That seemed to fix the problem, it hasn't given any more problems since then.
The manufacturer is refusing to RMA the drive unless it's completely unmountable right now this minute, saying that it was a one time problem that could have been caused by anything. Am I right in thinking that the problem has to have been with the drive if 'fsck -c' fixed it, or could something else be going on? If it was the drive, am I somehow being unreasonable in asking for a new one while the current one is "working"?

Recently I installed Dropbox on a server to do file synchronization and it added " (Case Conflict 1)" to a whole bunch of my files! I realize now that it was caused by case insensitivity but I'm still left with hundreds of files that are in this renamed state. Is there a script in Linux that would allow me to recursively go through the directories and strip out this string?
i.e.
a (Case Conflict 1).jpg --> a.jpg
/myfolder/abc (Case Conflict 1).doc --> /myfolder/abc.doc
/myfolder/subfolder/mydoc (Case Conflict 1).pdf --> /myfolder/subfolder/mydoc.pdf
