I like the clock applet in my system tray. It's nice to pull it open and see the time in other locations.
However, because of bandwidth, I'd like for it to stop requesting weather updates.
Is there a way to prevent the weather from being requested while still showing the locations, and timezones on the clock map?
Is there any method to add a location to the list in the gnome weather applet/clock ?
[EDIT] To be more precise: my location is not there, how to extend the list with my location so I could have weather displayed for my city
I'm trying to get a complete overview of booting so I can multiboot. An explanation of the hardware that stores data and the hardware that runs it with the paths the data takes would be awesome!

System Memory is your RAM is it not? Why are they being specific in stating the address location in the Firmware that BIOS uses? An external EEPROM on the board is totally different from RAM is it not? Does the BIOS data travel to a specific RAM Location?
Is there a small processor connected to BIOS or is everything run with the Main CPU?
What exactly is the "chipset" that is referred to with booting?

Doing some searches, I learned the protocol it uses is called METAR, the data is provided by airports, and the list of locations is at:[URL]..

View 7 Replies View RelatedAfter upgrading to F13 certainly - but from time to time my clock in Gnome will throw a wobbly. Not even consistent wobblies, sometimes the weather is missing completely, as now, sometimes only a slice of the weather icon appears, and the time/date display can be garbled. It seems to happen after a change such as booting up or a weather update, I've tried removing the applet from the panel and re-installing it, and even removing and re-installing the top panel. I'm reluctant to try removing and reinstalling Gnome-applets as that can remove a whole slew of dependencies and possibly bork an otherwise reliable install, after all I can live with it.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI have the weather indicator installed on 11.04, using unity, at first when I hit forecast, it would should the next 4 days and little pictures above the temp, clouds, rain, sun etc. Now all I see is what looks like a page and a red circle. The pictures are not there anymore. Everything is up to date. I tried uninstalling and installing, that worked for like a few hrs, but now it's not showing the pictures anymore.

My experience with Ubuntu has been great by far and I can safely say that it has improved since '05. Anyway, I'm just wanting to fix this minor little occurrence I just had. You see, the Ubuntu clock and weather isn't appearing anymore. It was there and I don't even remember seeing it removed until now. I don't recall doing anything other than browse the web at the moment and I do recall the time being there before I did some surfing. Anyway, My name is still listed in the upper-right corner of the screen still. Just not the time. Did anyone else have this problem and know of a fix?

Now that i reboot it frequently i notice that the clock is always not what is supposed to be. I'm in Toronto, Canada so it should be GMT -5:00. Sometimes it shows GMT-6, sometimes -10, now is GMT -11. Anyone would know why i have this issue? I'm running Suse11.1 on a 64 bit. My laptop which runs on 32 bit is working fine.(well probably different versions for kernel and kde.(whatever was in th repository to be updated i updated)

There is no BST file in /usr/share/zoneinfo, so I am asking how it is managed for BST settings and why it is different from setting Europe/London.
I have a backup server that is a backup destination for 10 servers.
Unfortunately each of those servers is in a different time zone. When Rsyncing to this box, it misses some files because the timezones are different.
I am using the following to find the Day of the Week on my server which is in UTC.

But say if I want to find the Day of the Week in another timezone, how would one go about it. I had a look at date --help but could not find any timezone related switches so am not sure if this is possible using this method.

On Karmic, every once in a while this error pops up near the notification area at the top right (also see attachment):
Timezone Errors See Error Console: Unknown timezones are treated as the 'floating' local timezone.
But the 'date' command shows the correct date/time and timezone. /etc/timezone is also set correctly. The machine is running ntpd and is connected to the net 24/7 via ethernet. I also don't see any 'timezone' errors in /var/log/* Which software is complaining? What is the "Error Console" it is referring to?

Here is the strange behaviour i observed
First i did set the timezone to PST 2010 (which is less than GMT basically negative timezone)

Note:in the above case when i did set time to 2:59:55 and said ok by then CEST became CET already. That could be the reason why DST is not happening.
I tried with few other positive and negative timezone configuration all the negative time zones resets back properly where as all the positive timezones doesn't

I'm using a very simple conky script to diplay the date and time on my desktop. I've noticed that he conky clock is a few seconds early compared to the time displayed in the right hand side of the top panel (Natty). I guess both displays are based on the same "internal" time, so I'm left wondering how this could happen, and how to sync back the clocks.
It seems that Conky is in sync with the system date, while the panel clock is 2 seconds late (on my system). Checked with while true; do date; sleep 0.1; done

However, the time showing in os using date command differs from bios time by roughly 4 hours. I am running ntp services which sync the time with another centos server on the network. It appears that some services are using virtual clock and some use physical clock. How do I get rid of virtual clock and only use physical clock?
