Ubuntu :: Pidgin Musictracker Doesn't Make Updates To "Now Playing" Field
Jan 15, 2011
I am using Pidgin with musictracker. When other people are playing the songs and they use Gtalk their status is updated with the "Now Playing" field with a music icon in front of their name as: [url]

I've noticed that the pidgin musictracker plugin does not work with rhythmbox in Fedora 15. I tried using Audacious and it sets the "Now Listening" status correctly, but rhythmbox doesn't work anymore.
In the indicator-applet next to the clock, I have a list of programs which includes Pidgin. Now it used to be a case where if I opened Pidgin logged onto the services and closed the window, it would run in the background and i could re-open the window from the indicator-applet and get notifications of people logging on etc.Now for one reason or another that doesnt happen no more. I can open it through the applet, but if i close the window, it shuts the program down...also if Pidgin is running, i get NO notifications of people logging on, new messages etc.
I've had a very colorful morning learning the innerparts of Linux's sort command, and have come across yet another issue that I can't seem to find an answer for in the documentation. I'm currently using -t, to indicate that my fields are split by the comma character, but I'm finding that in some of my files, the comma is used (between double-quotes) within values:
Jonathan Sampson,,foo@bar.com,0987654321 "Foobar CEO,","CEO,",ceo@foobar.com,,
How can I use a comma to terminate my fields, but ignore the occurences of it within values? Is this fairly simple, or do I need to re-export all of my data using a more-foreign field-terminator? (Unfortunately, I do not have any control over declaring a different terminator with this particular project).
I'm trying to display fields from flat files where the first 8 fields are always the same. Fields 9 - n are varied but will contain specific patterns I'm after. I'm using this so far because "mySearch" is on each line I want to examine.
Code:
How would you pattern match and include 2 additional fields above field $9 but change field position from line to line?
Pidgin is refusing to flash even after setting the "blink on new messages". I know this was a bug in 2.7.0. Is it fixed in 2.7.1? I tried checking the Message-notification plugin, but no luck. Anybody knows a workaround?
Is there anyway I can make Pidgin attach itself to my tray like it's window addon? I am a PHP programer, and find myself with a lot of tabs open. While the second workspace is much appreciated by most, it's under appreciated by me as it adds a extra step between clients and work.
I have been trying to figure out how to make audio calls in Pidgin. I have enabled the "Video/Voice Settings" plug-in, but do not get any options any where to initiate a voice call. I am trying to do voice over SIPE to Office Communication Server and I am not 100% sure if pidgin-sipe supports audio (I have looked around but can't find any information on features).
For some reason, Pidgin has *always* made a crackling sound before playing the actual event sound on my linux systems. It finally bugged me enough to go tinker with the sound settings. I changed the sound method from "automatic" to "ALSA" and the crackling goes away.
I am creating a game with random variables. In the game I have created a dialogue exchange to players. I have set up a table with various returns and I inserted {$fields} to represent various random variables. When I call on the requested fields, I only see the field text and my field names. Am I supposed to parse something and call it back another way?
ie: myfield is: "You have won {$random1} silver! <br />{$wi['gender'] majesty rewards you well." the code I am using to call that field is:
I can't make sound work in Pidgin. I've tries every single method (aplay %s with Command, ALSA, Automatic etc.). Anyway, I once was hearing sounds, but later they've gone again. I have ALSA set up in 'System - Prefs - Sound' and also in 'Multimedia Systems Selector', Debian Testing (sid) 2.6.32-3-686. I also cannot set the tray icon to 'Blink On New Message'. When I recieve a message - I only see a smilie there, no 'blinking'.
I'm running newest pidgin on sid and i have few problems. First of all notifications doesn't work (plugin is of course turned on), also even when i turn on blinking icon it's not blinking. Oh and why the tray icon is so small now?
whenever my facebook client automatically logs off in pidgin i have to not only provide my password but a word authentication (where it shows you a picture with letters in it arranged in a strange way and theres 2 of them seperated by a space, but whenever i enter in the letters (i know that all of the letters entered into that text box are right) but for some reason it doesn't let me back in it just prompts me again to enter the words i see and still doesn't let me in
i had to uninstall it and re-install it to get it to come back up again
hi, i am about to complete my BCA this year...and i want to make my field in networking...so i want to know that whether y should do Cisco Certifications or Red Hat Certifications....please tell me...
I know Pidgin doesn't have an option to send group messages. I've been searching for some plugin from a third part, found something for Debian, but nothing for Fedora/Redhat. Does anyone know here a working plugin for this problem?
I have a fairly fresh Slack install. When I start or shutdown X, the sounds that are supposed to play do. Also, sometimes everything else that is supposed to play sounds does.
However, sometimes the sound doesn't work for flash content or pidgin. I have never had a similar problem and I don't know where to start in resolving this issue.
I have a strange problem with my skype beta (latest) and Pidgin (gmail account) the problem is when i make voice call, it works fine for 1 or 2 mins then the voice drops and it connects after 20,30 secs.
I am looking for a way to make a video call from windows to linux. I do prefer over MSN or skype protocol so it would mean less trouble starting new accounts for all sides.
Now here are my problems: pidgin doesn't support video calls on msn protocol and skype doesn't support video calls over GPRS.
I like the simple looking interface on pidgin and I have a sierra wireless 880E pcmcia 3G modem. the windows side is using the WLM so no problems there.
I have a Kubuntu 10.10 install on which I can't update my packages due to some fail conflict between pidgin and pidgin-facebookchat. I can't even remove the stuff via apt-get due to this conflict...
sudo apt-get remove pidgin Code: Reading package lists... Done Building dependency tree Reading state information... Done You might want to run 'apt-get -f install' to correct these:
I have a problem whit this plasmoid. If I add this plasmoid while amarok runs, It works correctly. But if I close Amarok e then I run it again, plasmoid doesn't work.
I was having trouble with the sound of the wmv files on linux, but i solved it by coping the w32 dll libraries and now it works just fine. There is one problem though : whatever player i use to open and play a wmv file (mplayer, vlc), it doesn't fit the full screen - in windows the same movie DOES.
I am using Ubuntu 9.04. After doing sudo apt-get update When I try to insatll pidgin via terminal it shows: XXX@XXX-desktop:~$ sudo apt-get install pidgin Reading package lists... This may mean that you have requested an impossible situation or if you are using the unstable distribution that some required packages have not yet been created or been moved out of Incoming.

When I run Sims3 in Wine, the game happily switches video mode and runs fullscreen... but the global menu bar doesn't autohide, and there's no way to get it to hide manually. I've checked the Unity plugin in the compiz settings control panel, but there don't seem to be any settings at all for the global main menu there.
I uninstalled Empathy and installed Pidgin, because I just couldn't take Empathy's lack of features any more. The "Me" menu doesn't work properly with Pidgin, though. Every time I change my status via the Me menu, it knocks me off-line on three of my four accounts. how to disable (or even remove) the "Me" menu? It's only functionality is to control messaging and social networking services, right?
My webcam was working when I installed Fedora12. But now it doesn't work after about 2 months of playing with this OS. Because of this, I decided to reinstall it's driver.I downloaded it from ATrpms website, but if I try to install it the terminal says"/boot/vmlinuz-2.6.31.12-174.2.3_1.cubbi_tuxonice.fc12.x86_64 is needed by uvc-kmdl-2.6.31.12-174.2.3_1.cubbi_tuxonice.fc12-0.20090806-4.fc12.x86_64"File needed: /boot/vmlinuz-2.6.31.12-174.2.3_1.cubbi_tuxonice.fc12.x86_64File wanted to be installed: uvc-kmdl-2.6.31.12-174.2.3_1.cubbi_tuxonice.fc12-0.20090806-4.fc12.x86_64
