Ubuntu :: Perl Error Running Findimagedupes

I'm using Ubuntu 10.10, and I just installed findimagedupes (plus dependencies) from the repositories. I get the same error message no matter how I invoke it:

I wanted to run bash and perl scripts which requires SU privileges by clicking on dektop Terminal window opens and closes fast without knowing what happened.
scripts work on terminal window by telling
sudo perl file.pl
sudo bash file.sh
Perl has this header

How can I run them with desktop shortcuts with SU privilege so, the terminal will not close after execution?
should not the scripts work without telling perl or bash,

I am having a shell script which runs perl jobs.The script is starting the perl jobs when it is executed manually from the command line , but when the same script runs from crontab it is not starting the perl jobs.I have these things in the begining of the script

quick guidance on running a bash script using Perl. The script is calledarchive_web.sh.The regular script I have and use now (archive.sh) creates an archive directory (uses the current date as the dir name) and moves all existing files there.The script is cronned to run every day before midnight. I'd like to be able to run this "archiving script"manually, from the web, at my own discretion, rather than necessarily wait till midnight (but want it to run then, too, in case any new files present themselves in the directory).These shell scripts sit in an .htaccessed directory. Talk about making up verbs all over the place.

I'm getting something(s) wrong, trying to run commands (both simple and piped) in shells from Perl programs. Sometimes I connect to my Debian box from another computer (using SSH on Cygwin or Linux), and once ina while I want to run some console apps. And sometimes some of these apps might complain about "another intance, Error: an instance of newsbeuter is already running (PID: 2496)". Is there a work around for this issue at all(without killing the original instance") ? The reason I do not want to kill the app because there might be 2 users connected to the same machine that might be using the same app.

I've used yum (and rpm) for some time now, and have finally run into one of those dependency problem. I am trying to install git (among other programs), and I have reach an empass. Nothing I've tried has worked, and I just know there is a simple solution to this that I just don't know. It all started by skipping a dependency in the past (don't remember the package). I figured there would be something to clean that up, so I just continued.
Here is my output:

You could try using --skip-broken to work around the problem
You could try running: rpm -Va --nofiles --nodigest

I have a CentOS 5.4 box running usermin/virtualmin and have been keeping it up to date. Recently all the updates have started failing because yum is broken somehow. Even if I just try to get a version or something here is the response I get from the command line:
# yum -v

I have seen a lot online about problems with yum suggesting "yum clean all" as a fix - but I can't get yum to even start so, of course, that is not an option. I have done nothing manually to this box - the last update must have caused this issue. I also dunno much about perl but I see no problem with the line:

I've been trying to get the ol' hello world script to run in a browser. From the hours of reading of various pages about this, I cant work out Basically I get nothing at all displayed.
the perl (test.pl):
#!/usr/bin/perl
print "Content-type: text/html
";
print "Hello, world!";

The output: Nothing. no error message either in the browser window or in the servers error log. If I change the path or the file name I get "invalid CGI ref" in the Cpanel error log.
I did get this to work for a brief time, then changed the Perl script and it stopped working. So I went back to hello world and havn't seen it work since. What is going on?

I recently reinstalled the B module for perl. Now I found out it didn't just do that, it installed a whole new copy of perl into /usr/local/bin/perl. When I type 'which perl' at the terminal, it says '/usr/local/bin/perl' instead of '/usr/bin/perl'. Normally, this wouldn't bother me. But I installed the one in local/bin without threading support. The one that comes with the system already is build with threading support, which is why I want to switch back to the system perl, and possibly remove the one in /usr/local/bin.
So how do I change it so that the result of 'which perl' returns as '/usr/bin/perl'? And what do I have to do to remove /usr/local/bin/perl?
The reason I need threading support is because I'm designing a file copier that copies several chunks of a file simultaneously to speed up the copying process. Guaranteed a useful script if it works.

when I execute the command from the shell command line - it works and no error code.if I do the exact same command from a perl file - it fails with code 32512.the file is created from the same perl script that runs the command that fails. file permission is 0664.

Funny problem just began occurring in Debian Lenny.
If I use Konqueror to start Konsole (by pressing F4) and then run:
perl -le '{print "hello"}'
The result is:
perl: warning: Setting locale failed.

LANG = "en"
are supported and installed on your system.

If I start Konsole directly, I do not receive any such errors.

I've been requested to modify a perl backup script we use which mounts a networked NAS machine. The actual mount command is called inside a system() command. In testing, I can do a test of the return value, so I'm able to tell whether or not I've mounted properly, but I can't make heads or tails out of the return on deliberate errors. (Such as mounting a non-existent box.) I'm displaying the returned value, which is 256 in my tests. The man page for mount listed error messages with values from 1 to 64, but no higher. Am I drawing this error value from the system command somehow? And what would be the best way to determine what this error means?

I'm new in perl programming and linux OS. What is the difference between perl and perl-devel? What does mean devel? Iwant to install Catalyst and before install as required I have to check if make, gcc and perl-devel are installed in my system. make and gcc are installed. But I have to install perl-devel. First I searched for make, gcc and perl-devel in YAST Software Management and search did not find perl-devel. I visited the software.opensuse.org and wrote "perl-devel" and searched. The result was many similar zips with a prefix perl-devel and I can not choose one for needed perl-devel.
