opening a location that is a PDF file does not result in the file being loaded in Mozilla. Nor does it result in a dialog popup asking to save or open the file. I have the Adobe Reader plugin (Adobe Reader 9.3) enabled. On Lucid I get a blank white (sometime black) page. Using Karmic Koala, everything is fine; I get a dialog asking to save or open.
Here are a few example sites where loading does not work right:
[URL]
It is possible that the last one is only be accessible from a domain with online access such as a University.
I have found that APACHE or 'httpd' is installed in my machine. But the problem is I can start or stop the httpd but whenever I load the url http://localhost in Mozilla it shows a page load error.I have done this ,
$ /etc/init.d/httpd start then this $ /etc/init.d/httpd graceful
I have been doing periodic net-based dist upgrade since 7.10. Currently I use 9.10. Now that 10.04 is out, I want to upgrade to the latest LTS version by doing a clean install, instead of using net-based dist-upgrade.
Since I use Firefox, and Thunderbird, I want to keep the passwords/bookmarks I have stored in firefox, and mail/account settings (for multiple email accounts) that are in Thunderbird.
While I know I can copy the hidden profile directories for each, and back them up for recovery after the upgrade by copying them into the new 10.04 after install is complete, I don't know if this is recommended, prudent, or if pitfalls await me. Since I want to do a clean install, and, since 10.04 uses different versions of both Thunderbird and Firefox,
1. Would it be prudent to back up/use the existing profiles I have in 9.10, or should I bite the bullet and just start fresh with new profile setups when I finish installing 10.04? 2. Are there any pitfalls I need to be aware of if I will be restoring a profile of each from 9.10?
3. Or, should I continue to do net-based dist-upgrades to 10.04 so appropriate profile changes can be made by the new versions of Thunderbird/Firefox software?
Is it safe to put my old .mozilla and .mozilla-thunderbird folders from xandros 4.2 into OSS 11.3? I have apps, emails, and settings that I would like to keep. This might seem like an over precautious question, but I've broken Xandros more than once. I would hate to do it to OSS.
I recently installed slackware and i really dont know much about it. Or where to get software for it where I can get some .tgs files for plugins for mozilla so I can watch divx avi and other video formats online in my browser
On my laptop I have a dual boot of Vista and Ubuntu (Karmic Koala). I have 3 Vista partitions and 1 Ubuntu partition (well, two if you include the swap disk).
Recently I had started to notice that when trying to boot into Ubuntu, it simply wouldn't. It would have a screen with lots of text which would every few seconds refresh yet it never really looked any different, although I'd be unable to tell. I'd leave it there for several minutes and nothing would happen.
I wasn't worried for a while because I only used Ubuntu for some scientific work over the summer and I haven't needed it for a while but now I desperately need those files. I've tried three programs that apparently make Linux partitions accessible in windows but I've been succesful with none of them. I'm now seriously worrying that there has been a harddrive error of sorts...but then I only have one physical harddrive on my laptop and my windows partitions are working okay.
I found my Karmic DVD and I tried to run "run Ubuntu without changing your system" but that wouldn't load after ages.
I haven't tried to reinstall Ubuntu because I've read that doing so would wipe the existing files.
java ran just fine with 10.04 but when i upgrade to 10.10 it stopped working i can not get any of my java files to load, when i dub-click them my cpu spikes then nodda.
Ubuntu Software Center has a problem, when i click anything on categories, the files and folders wont load, when i type in search and press enter nothing loads, when i click installed programs nothing loads.
I wonder if it's normal that when:-I copy files; -I move files;-I download data (files, video, etc.) from the Internetthe CPU is completely loaded at 100%. In comparison, on Windows XP (SP2), on the same computer, the same situation makes the CPU consumes only half of the processor, oscillating near of 50%.N.B. RAM is not affected by the above problem. My computer is equipped with:-CPU AMD Athlon XP 2400 + (2.0 GHz)-685 MB of RAM-Motherboard: SiS-741
Installed Natty on a Windows machine via a dual boot. Two issues arising: 1 Brother HL-2040 printer just spits out all the paper without printing anything. I checked the printer application. It correctly identified the printer as HL-2040 but loaded the "recommended" HL-2060 driver. I noticed from my searches that others have had this problem but I don't understand whether (or how) they fixed it.
2 Loaded Gramps onto the "new" install (via Synaptic). Exported my Gramps file from another machine onto an external drive and tried to import the file to the new install. Tried opening Gramps to see if it would attempt to import the file, but there didn't seem to be a selection to recover the backup nor did it seem to be visible to the program. Also tried selecting the backup file and "Open with Gramps" - didn't work either. Also unloaded and reloaded Gramps via Synaptic but no change.

I've been wanting to try editing programs on linux (like for my own personal mods), but I cannot find out how to load the source files into an IDE, I don't want to use Kate or gedit because it's time consuming looking at 50+ files trying to find where a piece of code would be at (say trying to find ColorDrawer.Tablet.MakeFile(thisfile,here);, and having to look for a file with the ColorDrawer class) back when I was on windows I used Visual Studio, and I liked how I could highlight the classes or actions and open the file that they were within. I've tried constant programs, MonoDevelop, QT Creator, CodeBlocks, etc, but I'm clueless as to how to actually get a source code to load into a solution. How would I go about getting say http://neverball.org/neverball-1.5.4.tar.gz into a solution for MonoDevelop (or any other IDE)?
I have grub 2. I want to load a file from grub. When list of OS appears when Computer load grub, I want to choose some option and load a file. I want to load a file called sda.mbr which is placed in /sda.mbr I added in grub

I am using remote boot via PXE boot to an a remote machine. So okay, but when I load the files via NFS, I can not transfer the / lib to my station. I recompiled the kernel, which already influence all NFS packages built in this set as Obrigadao.
Finally went open source at home, but must be able to load QB to work with data files already for me to load into program. Will my system at home allow me to load QB Pro Premier 2009? Or alternative apps that will let me load and work with the data?
Windows computer continually generates images (AutoGrabnnn). All downstream analysis on linux computer. I need analog of rsync bringing files over as they arise. rdesktop seems to be the approach. Is this already described somewhere to bypass much trial-and-error?
Flash Player ActiveX is always copying movie from I-net before playing it. Is it possible to load and play flash movies directly from any source without usage of temporary files to protect the movie from any other LOCAL outside access?
When i open one of the web browsers i use and try to load a web site it's taking to long to respond and sometimes it doesnt load the website at all. I have tried with firefox, epiphany, opera with all the same results. I am sure that this is not a problem with my internet connection because i don't have these problems with windows. Also the network manager connection settings are correct
I also tried choosing the old kernel(2.6.32.24) to boot from but no success. The problem is the same as if i am using the 2.6.32.25 kernel. The strange thing is that i can download packages from synaptic with full speed. Last think.I have recently downloaded the recommended updates from the update manager but i don't remember what are the things that where updated.
I have a Favorites folder from my Windows computer that I saved on my Ubuntu computer. How do I add it to Mozilla ?I do not have a HTML file or IE on this computer to import.
Still working my way FROM Windows TO Ubuntu and noticed that when I opened Firefox there was no security indicator and 'about' does not state anything about security. In windows it would have a security icon or in about it would say SSL 128 or 256. Reason I ask is I do online banking and certainly don't want to have my 'information' broadcast all over the internet. IS security handled in Ubuntu and if NOT what do I need to download/install to be sure I am protected. Did a search but could not come up with anything concrete
So I want to use a java program, and I installed openJDK java runtime and IcedTea Java plugin. Now when I go on the site, it says "additional plugins required to see the page. When I click on install additional plugins, It says "Plugins already installed" And it doesn't work.
I'm fairly new to Linux and everything and still doesn't understand a lot of things about it. But as most of you may know that ..... is probably going to switch to HTML5 (so I heard) and I can not get Firefox to work with it. It is really annoying and I have flash player working but some videos require HTML5.
I tried to goto ..... and watch a video, it said i needed the adobe flash plugin, so i went and clicked install missing plugins, it come up with adobe flash plugin, but when i went to install it, it said it was already installed, and i couldnt re-install it, and no videos on ..... will work
I have a new laptop where I had to install Ubuntu 10.04 (8.04 wouldn't boot). All Mozilla software that I use every day (Firefox, Thunderbird, Sunbird) has blurry fonts in 10.04, as opposed to 8.04 where all the fonts are clear. I remember that on 8.04, Thunderbird 2 has the same blurry fonts if I use the package from Mozilla's website, but the fonts are clean if I use the Thunderbird 2 from the repository. The fonts in the content rendering (mail, web pages) are also blurred in a similar fashion in 10.04. I attach here the menus from Firefox 4.0 beta 1 on 8.04 and 10.04. It can be seen on large zoom that the fonts are not only blurry, but slightly smaller in width.
I uninstall unwittingly firefox from my ubuntu , i want to get it back . i download the package from mozilla site and i want to install it from the package i already download it , when i click on file named by firefox in that downloaded folder , i find that it open firefox as if i already installed it when i click to choose run in terminal
I'm trying to install Ubuntu (9.10) on my sisters computer. I have installed ubuntu 9.10, but when I try to boot it from hard drive, it would stop loading a bit after the logo appears. The screen would turn off while the system is still running. Live version of Ubuntu works after reports of errors. I tried to search for the problem all over the forum, and could not find a good lead to figure out the problem.
So far to figure out the problem, I verified if cd is corrupted. No issues there. Googled the problem, and seems like other users were able to install 7.04 (old posts). Its so weird though that live version works and the installed version does not.
Here are my specs:
I can post logs, but I'm not sure which one is useful as I'm relatively new to this process.
