Still working my way FROM Windows TO Ubuntu and noticed that when I opened Firefox there was no security indicator and 'about' does not state anything about security. In windows it would have a security icon or in about it would say SSL 128 or 256. Reason I ask is I do online banking and certainly don't want to have my 'information' broadcast all over the internet. IS security handled in Ubuntu and if NOT what do I need to download/install to be sure I am protected. Did a search but could not come up with anything concrete
I have been doing periodic net-based dist upgrade since 7.10. Currently I use 9.10. Now that 10.04 is out, I want to upgrade to the latest LTS version by doing a clean install, instead of using net-based dist-upgrade.
Since I use Firefox, and Thunderbird, I want to keep the passwords/bookmarks I have stored in firefox, and mail/account settings (for multiple email accounts) that are in Thunderbird.
While I know I can copy the hidden profile directories for each, and back them up for recovery after the upgrade by copying them into the new 10.04 after install is complete, I don't know if this is recommended, prudent, or if pitfalls await me. Since I want to do a clean install, and, since 10.04 uses different versions of both Thunderbird and Firefox,
1. Would it be prudent to back up/use the existing profiles I have in 9.10, or should I bite the bullet and just start fresh with new profile setups when I finish installing 10.04? 2. Are there any pitfalls I need to be aware of if I will be restoring a profile of each from 9.10?
3. Or, should I continue to do net-based dist-upgrades to 10.04 so appropriate profile changes can be made by the new versions of Thunderbird/Firefox software?
Is it safe to put my old .mozilla and .mozilla-thunderbird folders from xandros 4.2 into OSS 11.3? I have apps, emails, and settings that I would like to keep. This might seem like an over precautious question, but I've broken Xandros more than once. I would hate to do it to OSS.
In the following location:/home/"Me"/.mozilla/firefox/kjydlve3.default/FVD Single/,There is a file named "supported_sites.txt", which contains a large portion of pornographic urls, and other stuff I have no interest in. What creates this file, and why does it recreate itself after I delete it? I know I can chmod it, but I am mostly concerned for the cause of its existence. They seem to be almost all video related sites.
I have a Favorites folder from my Windows computer that I saved on my Ubuntu computer. How do I add it to Mozilla ?I do not have a HTML file or IE on this computer to import.
So I want to use a java program, and I installed openJDK java runtime and IcedTea Java plugin. Now when I go on the site, it says "additional plugins required to see the page. When I click on install additional plugins, It says "Plugins already installed" And it doesn't work.
I'm fairly new to Linux and everything and still doesn't understand a lot of things about it. But as most of you may know that ..... is probably going to switch to HTML5 (so I heard) and I can not get Firefox to work with it. It is really annoying and I have flash player working but some videos require HTML5.
I tried to goto ..... and watch a video, it said i needed the adobe flash plugin, so i went and clicked install missing plugins, it come up with adobe flash plugin, but when i went to install it, it said it was already installed, and i couldnt re-install it, and no videos on ..... will work
opening a location that is a PDF file does not result in the file being loaded in Mozilla. Nor does it result in a dialog popup asking to save or open the file. I have the Adobe Reader plugin (Adobe Reader 9.3) enabled. On Lucid I get a blank white (sometime black) page. Using Karmic Koala, everything is fine; I get a dialog asking to save or open.
Here are a few example sites where loading does not work right:

I have a new laptop where I had to install Ubuntu 10.04 (8.04 wouldn't boot). All Mozilla software that I use every day (Firefox, Thunderbird, Sunbird) has blurry fonts in 10.04, as opposed to 8.04 where all the fonts are clear. I remember that on 8.04, Thunderbird 2 has the same blurry fonts if I use the package from Mozilla's website, but the fonts are clean if I use the Thunderbird 2 from the repository. The fonts in the content rendering (mail, web pages) are also blurred in a similar fashion in 10.04. I attach here the menus from Firefox 4.0 beta 1 on 8.04 and 10.04. It can be seen on large zoom that the fonts are not only blurry, but slightly smaller in width.
I uninstall unwittingly firefox from my ubuntu , i want to get it back . i download the package from mozilla site and i want to install it from the package i already download it , when i click on file named by firefox in that downloaded folder , i find that it open firefox as if i already installed it when i click to choose run in terminal
How can I turn off specific authentications? I don't want to have to authenticate every time I mount a different drive (in a different partition). (Because I can't open Mozilla, since it pulls a profile from that partition, without authenticating; and I want to have Mozilla automatically launch on startup, but it can't launch if I need to type my password to gain access to the drive first!).
how to install firefox 3.6 on my 9.1 ubuntu. About adding various repository and the a sudo apt get and all that. I can do it that way, and I am sure it will work.
What stop me to just download the .deb package from mozilla for the version I want and install it? Will it be less integrated to the system, will it not be compatible with my 64bit ubuntu? I just find it so much simpler to download a package from the web and double click on it than going through terminal, yet no-one seems to propose this option.
I just got Ubuntu installed and I cannot view video from any webpage. I have adobe downloaded and active, I even downloaded google chrome, I have all popupblockers turned off and still nothing.
How come mozilla lightning did not made into the repos for Lucid? My only chance is to download it from mozilla? I am using Lucid 32 bits. So. I did it, downloaded lightning-1.0b1-tb+sm-linux.xpi and installed fine: Code: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; U; Linux i686; en-US; rv:1.9.1.9) Gecko/20100423 Lightning/1.0b1 Thunderbird/3.0.4 However, none of the calendar functions are working, calendar itself opens, but no grid lines are displayed. When I click on an invitation for an event, nothing is shown as body, no options to accept or decline, and the message is not marked as read. How can I workaround it? I tried mozilla daily ppa but no luck, erased .thunderbird profile, no luck. What else can I try?
i was using ubuntu 9.10 installed as a program inside windows. i clicked the upgrade button in my update manager and the ubuntu upgraded to 10.04. Now i couldnt access net from mozilla. my updates are still working and i can download those. when i type the address in mozilla and press enter it says connecting and then says to check my network settings. this is the case in both my acer laptop and my desktop
A bit of 411: Ubuntu 8.04 running Mozilla 3.0.19 and have not changed any settings (that I know of), no new hardware, and no updates prior to issue.
When I open Mozilla, it expands to the full screen and covers my Ubuntu Panels (Applications, Places, System, Time). I can get them to pop back to the top if I make a selection on the Mozilla [File] if the selection opens a new GUI. If it doesn't open a new GUI, whatever I click on is also hidden under Mozilla (usually stuff that appears in my lower Ubuntu panel)
When I'm in mozilla, and click to listen a link that contains a sound (mp3 for example), it doesn't play. For example, when i'm in [URL], and click to Listen, it doesn't play why?
I have been searching for this rampantly and couldn't find any solutions for it anywhere...i installed mplayer successfully and now im trying to install mozilla-mplayer on lucid... and i keep getting the following error
sudo apt-get install mozilla-mplayer Reading package lists... Done Building dependency tree
I installed Ubuntu 10.04. Prior to this I had been using Ubuntu 9.10. In 10.04 I am just unable to connect to the net using Mozilla FireFox. But otherwise, Update Manager, Google Chromium are all connecting smoothly. Which implies that there is nothing wrong with my internet connection. So now that this is a Mozilla FireFox problem.

I would like to report an issue regarding Mozilla Firefox in ubuntu 10.10. Continuously, a slow performance is experienced whenever I am trying to browse through the web. It takes about 20 sec to load a page. This issue was always existed in my system even when I was using the previous version of Ubuntu, 10.04. Is there any solution about it?
I don't know what I have done, but usually, when you want to download something from the internet, you click on the download icon and mozilla opens a small windows with 2 options. Open of Save file. Well, it's not working here anymore, I will attach what I get when I try downloading something. Is there anyway I can get all default settings from mozilla back? (I will attach my download settings too)
first of all I need to know how to install Mozilla Firefox from the browser. It should be easy, but it has this weird tar.bz thing. Why can't Mozilla be normal? It is extremely hard to get the latest builds. I don't even know what I had to wrestle through to get to 4.0.1, which is what I am on now. Tell me the super easy way. Mozilla is awful. Also, how can I get the new beta and aurora channel switcher? I believe I can only get it if I update to a newer version which is what I am trying to do now. It says to go to about and then click "change" which is not there. So Linux really shouldn't be this complicated and frustrating.
I just installed ubuntu 10.10 with mozilla 5. Suddenly every flash video(..... etc) became impossible to view it. i dont know what to do is there any possible solution..?
I've been installing one too many programs from Synaptics and Software Center and then lo and behold Mozilla Firefox is nowhere to be seen in the taskbar...what gave?
Are any of you experiencing freeze ups on trying to close Mozilla when you have multiple tabs open? A window appears, saying 'Do you wish to save the open tabs' and that is the last thing the computer does.
