View 6 RepliesWhen importing files from my digital camera, I find it less confusing to open a folder and then drag the files to where I want them on my hard drive rather than to have Shotwell do it automatically (as described by jennacav in this post). That's straightforward for photo files, but what about for video files? On my camera, they are stored in an AVCHD folder, which itself has several folders and subfolders. Does this mean that I have to drag the files over as a group, or is there some way they can be handled individually as photos can be? (I'm new to both Ubuntu and digital photography.....)
View 5 Replies View RelatedI have what I believe to be an Evolution mail archive which I now find the need to access. For each mailbox, I see these files
bash-3.1$ ls Inbox*
Inbox Inbox.cmeta Inbox.ev-summary Inbox.ibex.indexInbox.ibex.index.data
On the original cdr backup, there is also Inbox.sbd/ which appears to be an empty directory. I can read this stuff with mutt -f Inbox, but mutt has it's limitations. I would like to be able to get them into thunderbird, or even gmail. What's the trick? When I boot thunderbird, it doesn't really want to know.
We have an archive server where the administrator, via a web interface, can import text files into a mysql database. The files are typically local to the machine. The operating system of the server is CentOS 5.4, and that of the mysql database is 5.0.77.The database was originally on another server which was replaced by the one that is currently in use. The migration of the database from the older server involved creating a dump file, copying the file to the new machine, and importing it into the database. The version of the mysql database on the previous server was 5.0.45. The problem that has started to occur is the following: When the administrator goes through the motions of importing a text file to the database, the text does not get imported even though there are no error messages appearing on-screen or in the mysqld.log file. The administrator can see what is already in the database, but he cannot add to it.
The web interface to the database utilizes perl modules and cgi files. I ran the cgi files from the command line to see if there were any error messages. There were none. The perl modules that were on the previous server were copied to the new server with the permissions kept intact. I also verified the user and database permissions on the new server match those on the older server. I am at a loss as to why this is occurring, and I would appreciate any help I can get on this. I have enclosed the files that are involved with the importation of the text file into the database as a single text file attachment. The files are all cgi files with the exception of the last file being the perl module.
After upgrading to 9.10 I am having trouble opening my old files encrypted with pgp. My keyring is still on the computer as I did an update and not a clean install. The problem is that I get a message saying that there is no pgp/mime program installed to open the file. Which program should I install to fix this?
View 4 Replies View RelatedI'm running 9.04 jaunty. I made a file in gimp and saved it as .xcf. I want it to be a pdf file, so I try opening it with open office drawing, but it keeps opening it with the word processor instead. The word processor starts the file if I do a right-click 'open with' on the file on my desktop, and even if I use open from the file menu in drawing itself. I'm wondering what to do to get drawing to open this file. Is it that .xcf is not supported by drawing?

I can remotely access files from the PC to play but because the laptop's resources are being used to play it I still encounter some slowdown. Is there any way to remote access the other PC while using its resources to play the video?

But it hangs on opening PDF files (Import of picture from PDF works fine, but that's not what I need). I tried with a lot of PDF from a lot of different sources.
I added the line "resolution = 200" in the .gscan2pdf file to solve the issue where scanned PDF won't save.
I tried to reinstall the package with Synaptic without more success.
Here the output with debug flag :
I have another thread going about my issue but i have go no responses so i have been trying to fix it myself so on my journeys i thought it would be helpful if i could open my .disk files so i can access the logs so i can see what errors im getting. other thread is [url]

View 1 Replies View RelatedI've been getting annoyed with the way that Firefox opens files for me. I used to have it so that they would come up with a window that asked whether I wished to save files onto the hard drive or simply open them. When choosing to Save, they would go to my Desktop. Because I mainly save files from my Uni website, they are generally .pdf files. N for some reason, they open in the Firefox window, so then I have to go to File, Save, then choose where I want to save it. It would be more efficient if it worked the way it did originally. How can I get the settings back to the way they were? I am running Ubuntu 9.04 and Firefox 3.0.19. Because I use a shared computer, I'm not sure whether the version of Firefox has been changed.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI really hate this warning when I try to open certain types of files in gedit: (using ubuntu lucid)

Do you want to run File.c or display its contents?
"File.c" is an executable text file.
Open in Terminal; Display; Cancel; Run
Is there any way to remove the warning? I have never once clicked anything other than display, and when I'm opening lots of files, having to hold down ALT-D to get rid of these warnings.
I install a nautilus plug-in which in turn installed the elinks browser and now all of my .html files are opening in elinks instead of firefox so how do I get .htm/.html and other web type files to open in firefox instead of elinks.
I also tried removing elinks from my system but then the files just open in gedit so again how do I associate .html (and other web files) with firefox.
BTW firefox is already set as my default browser in System > Prefs > Prefered Applications > Web Browser

I have a wav file bigger than 8GB. i recorded it on a windows PC. unfortunately wav files cant be bigger than 2GB. somehow i got a file that is almost 9GB. I tried to chop the file under ubuntu into smaller pieces to open it part by part. i used gnome split to divide the file and made 10 parts out of it. now i have these parts of the data which i cant read with no program except for gnome split to merge them together again - which would only bring me to the beginning of my problem. so my question is: is there any other way to open/ split&open a wav file of that size or maybe a way to open the splitted file partially?

Installing acroread is not an option for me, if I have to I will go down the library and use their computer to view it, but I am hoping there is some decent free software out there or a converter. I don't mind at all not having an interactive form (Which is what I think this is), converting to a normal pdf or image woudl suffice perfectly. The document itself is not sensitive and I am prepared to share it around if anyone wants to have a crack at opening it (I'd have to be told where/how to upload it).
I just moved from Ubuntu to Debian, managed to get the WiFi printer working, installed flash player etc. Just seemed to have trouble opening files over the LAN, is there a firewall setting I need to set. Files work fine if i copy them to the desktop and open them from there but not over the LAN. I have looked on the web with no luck.

I just started using FireFTP instead of FileZilla because I got fed up with FileZilla not opening remote files and not recognising the default editor Gedit.
I really want to use keyboard shortcuts with FireFTP, which is possible according to the help docs on-line, but there is no option to use shortcuts anywhere even having enabled FireFTP to open in a new window. I tried it in Shiretoko 3.59 and Firefox 3.18 with no luck.
I just tried removing FileZilla and it does not appear in my list of installed apps. It appears in the full list as uninstalled but when ticking the box to install gives this message. FileZilla FTP client cannot be installed on your computer type (i386). Either the application requires special hardware features or the vendor decided to not support your computer type. I already have FileZilla..so how is that?
Since I've upgraded to KDE 4.5 on openSUSE 11.3. I am getting some instances of Dolphin hanging or lagging when navigating directories or opening files.
