Ubuntu :: OpenOffice Not Recognizing Fonts Activated By FontMatrix?

I activated a bunch of fonts through FontMatrix, which is a font manager I installed from the Ubuntu Software Center. The Font's were then available to me in inkscape, and a bunch of other programs. Now however I wanted to use some of those fonts in OpenOffice Impress (Presentation), but OpenOffice didn't seem to list the fonts.
Does anyone know how I can solve this. I'm assuming that one of two things is happening. Either OOo is not following the symlinks that are present in the .fontmatrix directory, or that openoffice is hard coded to not read fonts from any directory other than .fonts.

I have OpenSuse 11.3/64 with OpenOffice and want to use some additional (ttf) fonts.
They install fine in KDE (configur desktop / fonts ) and are available in progs like Gimp. But Open Office doesn't recognize the new installed fonts. What am I missing here?

I'm running -current (13.37) 32 bit and have installed OpenOffice 3.2.1. The problem is the menu fonts in OpenOffice which look very thin and are not smooth. All other application fonts look very good. When I had this same version of OpenOffice installed on Slackware 12.2 I did not see this problem.In OpenOffice I have ticked the option to use system font for user interface but this doesn't seem to have any effect. I've also ticked the screen font anti aliasing option because the fonts look worse when this is not ticked. My KDE system font is DejaVu Sans, the same as it was on Slackware 12.2.
My OpenOffice package was built using a script written by Robby Workman which I think I got from his web site a long time ago. It takes the rpms and creates a Slackware package.

Need info on installation procedure for Unicode fonts on RHEL 4? I want the unicode fonts to display the Marathi(Devnagri) pages in the screen. At present I am getting the unicode as square,square,etc.on my screen. I am using Firefox Version 2.0.0.20.

I've installed Fontmatrix. It deactivates fonts correctly, but when I try to reactivate them, it does not do so, and gives this error message: "Fontmatrix has been unable to load the font in file /usr/share/fonts/truetype/ttf-liberation/LiberationMono-Bold.ttf. Please check missing files." It is still possible to reinstall them using Gnome Font Viewer. Does anyone know what to do about this?

I just finished installing a bunch of truetype fonts. After installing them, firefox is displaying "bradybunch" font when I search google.
The font settings are all serif and sans serif in both the system fonts settings and firefox settings.
I am using ubuntu 9.10.
Any idea why this could be happening?

I would like to use the Adobe Garamond Pro in my text doccument in open office writer. I got a text document where from a friend where it is used so I know that it can. But when I want to edit I cant find it in the fonts dropdown menu.

I have a folder with over 1500 fonts, I would like to move them to my /usr/share/fonts folder so that they can be used. Some are from Windows, some are just random extras. I've installed the msttcorefonts, but there are quite a few missing that make some wen pages look different.
How can I go about putting the fonts from my folder, into the appropriate /usr/share/fonts folder to be used? And how can I move them all? I can't drag and drop them, and mv FONT_NAME /usr/share/fonts for all of them will take a month or two. Is there a way to elevate my self to be able to just drag and drop them all? And which folder would they need to go into for them to be used in Chrome and Firefox?

I have just installed openSUSE 11.2 X86_64 on my laptop, I then used KDE to install lots of type 1 fonts for my printer. These get loaded to /usr/local/share/fonts/...These installed fonts are visible to KDE (KWRITE) and GIMP so I assume that the installation was O.K. When I start openOFFICE writer I do not see these fonts. The font selection appears to be the fonts located under /usr/share/fonts. I have not tried other ooo3 components. I assume that they are not going to see the fonts either.
I have searched google and it appears that /usr/local/share/fonts is the correct location for non-packaged fonts. Has anybody any idea what is wrong? I think I could move all the fonts to /usr/share/fonts and ooo3 would work but this seems to break the installation directory structure. I have considered symlinks but I don't like the idea of defining a font twice to Linux and creating the syslinks is more work than reinstalling the fonts if they are lost

Gimp works fine editing and saving photos from/to the nfs share. kWrite can do its thing and read/create files on the NAS. Files I create with vim are visible and editable under windows. OpenOffice however, when I try an open a file I get "file is locked by unknown user." I open as copy and try saving to the share with a different name... No Dice, error saving to share the file is created on the share but it is empty. I did some reading and found a post that said to comment a line from a file called soffice, which I cannot find.

I can not get the Nvidia closed source driver to work..when i open the "Additional Drivers" it says that the driver is activated but not currently in use.

I am trying to get my new computer to work with the proprietary nvidia drivers, but unfortunatly I am having some troubles. When I activate the nvidia drivers in jockey and restart the computer, the DE fails to load unity, and no compositing is actually being done. When I check jockey, it says:
"this driver is activated but not currently in use" I have an NVIDIA GT 550M. I can use unity with nouveau, however there are some problems that I have noticed, like not resuming from sleep and some freezing, which I suspect is a result of the open source drivers(could be fixed in an update later). But does anyone know how to get the proprietary drivers to work in the mean time?

I've got an issue where my nvidia drivers won't activate, which is a fairly large problem on my Asus G60VX. The reason it bugs me most is because it won't let me use a second monitor while the drivers aren't activated.
Here's my issue.
Now, I already tried going into Synaptic and removing all NVidia stuff manually, and then reinstalling, but this didn't fix my problem.

I just installed natty today after erasing the previous maverick and windows dual boot.Everything works fine.But there is one problem .The propriety driver for Nvidia seems to be activated but not in use.I still get unity desktop,(couldn't get it before installing the propriety driver).I have tried removing and activating it again but it ended up the same again.I know that this problem has been encountered lot of times,but I searched everywhere and didn't find anything.

Bus 001 Device 002: ID 0846:9040 NetGear, Inc.So I think it's correctly recognizing it, but for some reason it won't identify it as a wireless USB NIC. I'm trying to install without a wired connection (several rooms away from a wire, and this is an old tower), so any help there would be nice, if not, then any advice on what to do when I get it hardwired would be nice. I have the Live CD to try this with. I also have a second CD/DVD, and have it installed/working on XP on the box (which after I get wireless working I'll be replacing),so I have the .inf file if anyone can direct me to using ndiswrapper for it. Let me know what else you need to know.

System-->Admin-->Hardware Drivers States my STA driver is activated, but not in use... ug. having so many wireless issues with 10.04 i've been pulling my hair out for a week now. I assume this is why it says my network UNCLAIMED as well.

Haven't been able to boot here lately. Installed Lucid Lynx via Wubi. Tried reinstalling grub, with no avail. Tried using Lilo and now it says I have no activated partitions. I can only boot if I use a LiveCD or Super Grub Disk to find my Windows XP Loader. Here is my results.txt from the boot info script:

Todays update broke my display again. The windows are hanging off the left side of the screen.
Nvidia current correctly configured 1920x1080, xorg.conf seems ok too.
System - Administration - Additional Drivers shows nvidia current, but mentions that the driver is activated but not currently in use
How can I get Ubuntu to use this driver?

A friend of mine is running Ubuntu. He used to run Windows XP, but he kept destroying it completely, and I soon got tired of fixing it for him. So I setup Ubuntu, and we're both happier people for it.BUT! The other day he asked me to setup a VPN (PPTP) connection to his workplace, which I promptly did. It also just works, except for one minor problem: When he fires up the VPN connection, I lose the ability to connect to his computer over SSH. As soon as he shutdown the VPN connection, I can once again log in over SSH.I use the SSH connection for basic maintenance and for tunneling port 5900 so I can assist him over VNC.
His nic is setup with DHCP. Gateway is 192.168.57.1. Port 22 is NAT'ed to 192.168.57.2, which is the IP his computer is assigned by the router (it's reserved to his MAC address).
When he connect the VPN, a new interface is created with the IP 192.168.1.32. I'm very much _not_ a network expert. I can manage the very basic stuff, but beyond that I'm quite lost.

as the majority of ubuntu 10.04 users I had problems with setting up wireless internet connection too. After reading many forum topics I somehow managed to set up the connection.Now the only problem is that when I restart computer wireless connection is no longer working. Each time I boot Ubuntu I have to go to System>Administration>Hardware Drivers, remove Broadcom STA wireless driver and then install it again. I'm going to start with Gen'l Help then maybe slide over to security. Twice recently, when shutting down for the night, I've noticed a Guest Session has been activated on my system. Since I'm the only one using this machine, I'm naturally curious. Can anyone out there explain how Guest Session works and if it can be activated remotely... or otherwise explain how the check mark next to "Guest Session" might be activated?

So i installed Ubuntu 10.10 did updates all was fine. when i went to activate the nvidia driver it install but upon restart i lost my GUI. I have a nvidia ion next gen graphics card. Running desktop 10.10 with intel atom dual core and 2gb of ram
NOTES:
1.) sudo service gdm start states that the gdm service is already running
2.) ctr + alt + f7 does nothing and along with that all the other alt + f keys do not have a GUI
3.) i can log in and use the OS via command line
4.) other things i have tried is the sudo apt-get install nvidia-current just led to the same results

Anyway, Due to the bad habit of windows habits, I've many Desktop Icons on my Desktop.
I ALREADY KNOW HOW TO HIDE THEM. I know both the ways for hiding them...
BUT, the problem is, whenever I hide Icons, the desktop RIGHT CLICK DROP-DOWN MENU goes too!! There's no right click menu then.
But as soon as I activate SHOW DESKTOP ICONS, the menu comes back... Pretty obvious why. But how can I prevent it???
I need HIDDEN desktop icons, ALONG with DESKTOP RIGHT CLICK MENU.
SO, my dear fellows, please enlighten me. WHAT SHOULD/CAN I DO?

I bought Sony vivo c series laptop and I tried to install ubuntu 10.10 version on it.After installed ubuntu the ethernet device was not activated. But It's working fine with wireless network. Similar problem I faced with older version 10.04 also.
Then, I tried with newer version 11.04. It detected Ethernet device.After installation over I just rebooted and I have chosen ubuntu OS, then it stuck and goes to blank screen.I am doing all my work in ubuntu only, i am struggling to recover form this problem for a long time.
