View 9 RepliesI have just installed Ubuntu 10.10 powerpc on my powermac G5 and I am noticing some erratic behavior. I pressed ctrl + mute to see if there was a keyboard shortcut assigned to those keys and suddenly all the icons and theme changed to a nasty grey style. I can get the basic theme to go back minus the panels applications and icons. I had this problem on my laptop too and never found a solution (please see pic below of ppc). Also subsequently (and I don't think its connected necessarily) my keyboard has been not responding sporadically. I unplug it and wait for a min and then plug it back in and it seems to work again? Below are a few error messages that i found from the logs:

Does anyone other this know how (or know of a guide that details how) to create a text based start up theme for plymouth? I have some older hardware and I'd like to do something custom up there.
View 2 Replies View RelatedFor some reason, from time to time on login, as my normal theme starts to load, it changes to some sort of silver theme (a very basic one), and I am unable to change it over to any other theme. Checking the theme being used, it still says my desired one is set, but it is not. Also, no matter what theme I change it to, that basic silver theme is the one being used. This includes a default icon theme, not the one I prefer.
The only option that seems to fix things is a restart, and the hope that on this login it won't mess up like before.I am using Natty, from a fresh install, with Ubuntu Classic as my desktop, and have reinstalled things more than once to try and fix a few of the Natty-related issues, but this one keeps coming back.
What does this error mean i try to save it and get this? Irssi: Error saving theme to /home/perlsyntax/.irssi/default.theme: Permission denied

I installed a theme in emerald, and it didn't do anything, like, it had no effect on my windows or anything. So i did some searching and the only thing i could find was to run "emerald --replace" in the terminal, and it worked, but if I exit out of the terminal, it reverts back to the old theme. How do I keep emerald's theme, even after I exit the terminal?
View 5 Replies View RelatedIm trying to use a downloaded theme (from [URL]) om my FVWM window manager, but the theme depends on various programs that isn`t in the Fedora repository. Namely habak, trayer and rox-filer (the last one is optional though). Is there any way to download these programs and install them independantly?
View 2 Replies View RelatedI updated my laptop from F12 to F14 via preupgrade. After doing so, the standard mouse theme was active. So I installed the one I like again and set it as mouse theme. For some reason it is now a mixture of the one I installed and the standard theme. If I open a place in nautilus the displayed symbol is the right one while waiting, if I open something in control center I get the standard icon. Same problem with drag and drop, I always get the hand from the standard theme. I also tried the former standard theme Bluecurve and it was the same problem. Can anyone tell me what goes wrong with the theme? What has changed in F14, that the older themes won't work?
View 3 Replies View RelatedSince I updated my system a couple of days ago, qpdfview uses a generic theme instead of the Gtk theme. Apparently by adding
Code: Select allexport QT_STYLE_OVERRIDE=gtk.
to /etc/profile all QT5 apps should use the gtk theme but for some reason this doesn't seem to work.
Adding -style=gtk to the launcher options works but I want to change the theme setting for all QT5 apps.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI have a normal ubuntu installation installed on my netbook.Annoyingly for some reason Firefox regularly goes grey on the background, I am unable to get any input to it. After a few seconds the colour returns and functionality returns. This does not happen after a period of inactivity so I have no idea why this happens or for what reason.I've seen a similar post dated 2008 so it is surprising it is still occurring.
View 3 Replies View RelatedI enjoy using vim from lxterminal with the black background, as well as awesome with its dark theme. I configured xfe manually to be darkish, and i use darklooks as a GTK theme to suit it as well. I could say all my desktop looks pretty dark, which my eyes thank me for. I also use redshift. But problems come along when surfing the web. Most web pages (including this one) have very bright styles. They are not the problem themselves, but switching from my windows hurts my eyes since it's a quick change to a much brighter screen. What would you do, either:
1. Use everything with a brighter background and putting the screen brightness a bit lower. (changing the GTK theme to clearlooks, using lxterminal with a white background, etc.)
2. Use some color theme with uzbl so that pages would look much darker. (like when you set manually the text and background colors in Firefox/Iceweasel)
I would myself go with the second one if most pages wouldn't look that bad when modified that way. For example, many pages use non-transparent images with white backgrounds on white pages, so if you change the background to black not only it looks horrible but it too is a mess.
When in Home Folder or working Inkscape, the window I'm working in goes grey and the programs freeze.Only that program or folder or if I have two folders open then when the home folder freezes so will the other folders, but not programs.

View 9 Replies View RelatedWell, the problem here seems to have started after I installed Gnome color changer and followed some directions on gnome-looks.org to install a certain theme (This one). Well after a while of messing around, and this not happening (I was never able to install the skin), I rebooted. When the desktop loaded, the background was covered by a big gray rectangle that covers the desktop. I say it covers because I can still see the original wallpaper through the transparent panels. Also, when I try to change the wallpaper, the computer becomes unresponsive and I have to force it to restart.
Anybody have any idea what it could be?
I was changing some settings in ATI Catalyst Control Center on my laptop; when I had my cursor on the contrast slider, the mouse slipped and slided the marker to the far left, removing all contrast; now, everything is dark grey (once I'm at the login screen, the very first bootup screens work) and I am unable to use my laptop.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI'm running Fedora 11 x86_64 (GNOME) and I'm having a problem installing ANY themes from http://art.gnome.org. Any time I try to install a theme I get an error that it's "appears to not be a valid theme" When I first click the install button and navigate to my theme packages, I don't see the [dot] theme file, which is a red-flag. I change to "All files" and I tend to see an "index.theme". Is this the correct file?
View 3 Replies View RelatedThis has been bothering me for a very long while now, but not enough for me to bother asking about it. I've looked up about the grey background in the tray in lucid, but I can't find anything where all my icons have the wrong background. This happened after I upgraded from karmic, and the problem only exists with the new themes.

Bluetooth works perfect, when I boot lucid using live CD, So I guess there is some problem with the installation. I upgraded from 9.10 to 10.4. It never worked with 9.10 and its continuing the same way.
After a restart, I see bluetooth icon, but its grey all the time. Two more screen shots..

While using FireFox the application will sometimes turn a shade of grey. Almost as if the entire application is locked. Most times if I wait for a while it will "colorize" itself after a moment or two and I'm right back to doing whatever I was doing.,I was just wondering if anybody could tell me why this happens?
I have noticed that the AutoTen program does the same thing while an application is being installed. The terminal-style window will open and start doing all the important stuff, and the GUI will grey out until it's done... I just don't understand why FireFox would be doing this...
I've been messing around to try and play runescape (Java based) on my laptop. I run Lucid Lynx (in dualboot with vista) and have Java installed. Now I'm trying to get Runescape to work so I have even more reason to ban Vista completely. So I installed Java, and tried in firefox (3.6.6). It loads the log in, I log in, but then I get a grey screen with "applet started" in the status bar but nothing more.
When that didn't work I did some googling and tried it with SeaMonkey(2.0.4) - same result. Would another browser help or is there something else wrong?
I am a NOOB and I have just installed Fedora 14 as Ubuntu 10.04 crashed with low graphics mode and now no version of Ubuntu will install, anyway thats another issue. I would be very grateful for anyones help as this computer has to stay connected to the cable until I am able to fix this.Computer is Dell laptop 1gb vr, 4gm ram, with Belkin n+ router
