Ubuntu :: No Sound - Audio On 11.04
May 2, 2011I have just upgraded Ubuntu to 11.04 and there is no sound, no audio...
View 9 RepliesI have just upgraded Ubuntu to 11.04 and there is no sound, no audio...
View 9 RepliesI was just using the mic and watched it stop working suddenly. I was in the middle of a skype test call when the graphical mixer level died down to zero in the middle of the call. When the test call was played back, the first part sounded fine then the sound got lower until it became inaudible. Since then I can't get any sound from my mic in skype.
Also, the audio input level graphically shown in Sound Preferences shows no fluctuations in sound as it used to before. The input device is enabled. I tried using Sound Recorder to record some sound clips and that worked fine. So the mic is working but Sound Preferences and Skype seem to have the mic level really low. I'm not sure what else to think considering it was working perfectly a few minutes ago. I've tried restarting, but that didn't fix it either.
I am unable to hear any sound at all using my M-audio delta 44 soundcard (which works fine in Windows - Dual boot).how I can get this working?
View 4 Replies View RelatedStrange one. Just upgraded my mother-in-law's computer from 8.04 to 10.04 via the update manager. All seems to be working beautifully except ...
* When I run gstreamer-properties and do an output test I get a test sound through the headphones plugged into the front audio socket of the machine using the 'Analogue Headphones' setting in Sound Preferences. (This rules out dead headphones.)
* When I try to play audio through any app I get no sound through the headphones, but if I change the setting to 'Analogue Output' in Sound Preferences I get audio loud and clear through the speakers which are plugged into the audio socket at the rear of the machine. how the gstreamer-properties test is getting audio to the front socket I guess I'd be getting somewhere.
New Ubuntu installation with a big problem: no sound.
OS: Ubuntu 10.4.1
Hardware: HP Pavilion Elite e9150t (64 bit)
Sound card: Creative Sound Blaster X-Fi Xtreme Audio
Preliminary checks of sound level settings and obvious dumb stuff but there is still no sound. The problem seems to be that the system does not recognize the existence of the sound card and insists on using alternative audio devices.

I'm setting up a new PC and hope to use the Planet CCRMA packages for some simple home recording projects. The PC has a 64-bit processor, so I've installed the x86_64 version of Fedora 10. I've done the basic steps of adding the Planet CCRMA repositories and installed their real time kernel, so I'm think I'm ready to try and get started. First, I need to get my sound cards set up right. I have an M-Audio Delta 1010LT card, which I'd like to use for working with music and the Intel HDA card built in to the motherboard, which I'd be happy to use for things like system notifications and other incidental sounds. Here is what the system tells me about the cards:
[code].....
The only ones that produce any sounds when I test them are the HDA Analog device and the Delta 1010 device, but the weird thing is that output seems to be coming out of the built-in output jack (on the motherboard) in either case. Does the OS route output from the Delta 1010 through the built-in card to its output jack? Also, I've connected only the first two RCA analog outputs from the Delta 1010 to my desktop speaker system - should I use a different pair of outputs for testing? Playing a CD directly from the CD drive works, but playing music files from Amarok does not. I'll leave it at that for now. I posted the information above to the Planet CCRMA mailing list threee days ago, but I haven't gotten any responses.
Basically the driver is not working =S no clues to what happened. sound still works in alsamixer but pulseaudio is broke. i kinda need pulse audio to work with wow.
View 1 Replies View RelatedIm gonna install on few days Ubuntu 10.10 because I have Windows XP. I ask a question HOW TO INSTALL SOUND? My sound driver is VIA HD AUDIO. or better just HOW TO MAKE SOUND WORK ON THIS VERSION?
View 1 Replies View RelatedI have an ASUS M5A78L-M LX motherboard with ALC887 inbuilt sound. The sound is barely audible unless the speaker volume is all the way up, and then it is very crackly. The BIOS is set up to use AC97 sound instead of HD Audio, which doesn't work either.
I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling ALSA drivers but it didn't really change anything.
Aplay -l comes up with this:
But still very little sound.
I recently upgraded to Ubuntu 10.04 and my sound is not working. I have a gateway p-6860FX. i've had this trouble since 9.04 and also in 9.10, but I worked around it by adding the following to my alsa-base.conf with
Code:
Sound worked fine after that, but it doesn't work with 10.04
Here are the results of aplay -L

I went in to alsamixer and turned everything up. it didn't work.
Something is wrong with the audio on my laptop, when I used the live CD previously, nothing was wrong. It's all staticy when the base comes on or like a beat (I don't know how to explain it). Even ..... vids and such. My laptop audio is not usually like this.
View 5 Replies View RelatedI run a Dell Latitude D520 with an Ubuntu 9.10/Windows XPpro dual boot. My soundcard is a SigmaTel stac9200. Recently,I was experiencing problems with no audio on random start-ups, but after attempts at troubleshooting that problem, I now have absolutely no audio. Could anyone help me troubleshoot this correctly?I feel as though I might do damage to my system if I keep trying solutions from outdated forums. I also don't have an incredible amount of experience with this.Is there a way to just wipe my audio drivers and reinstall them? Also, please understand that I'm a rookie, and I'm sorry if this question has been asked somewhere else before.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI recently got a new audio interface, which is working perfectly on ubuntu 10.04 i just plugged it in and it worked without any tinkering! the interface is a lexicon omega which is fully supported under alsa. The problem is that for some reason it's not working on ubuntu 9.04 (which is where were most of my work currently is so occasionally i still have to use 9.04 as i don't have all of the same software installed on 10.04).
Jack seems to detect it properly in both 9.04 and 10.04 as it is listed in "interfaces". But it does not show up in "Volume Control Alsa Mixer" so I cannot select it from the drop down list.
So currently I have no sound (just in case you weren't able to decipher that from my primitive ubuntu-speak above )
Here's the output of cat /proc/asound/cards

I'm having some troubles with my soundcards. I have a Audigy ES PCI soundcard and I just recently bought an M-Audio Audiophile 24/96 soundcard and at the moment I have both of them installed. I'm dual booting w/ Windows xp and I need the Audigy in Windows for gaming and because of the mic input that the M-Audio doesn't have.
First when I installed the M-Audio only Amarok (and probably other 'Phonon' apps) worked but I had no sound in mplayer, xine etc. With some googling I found a way to make the M-Audio card the primary card for Alsa and now mplayer & xine work fine too. M-audio 24/96 uses the module ice1712.Today I noticed I don't have sound in flash player (I use opera, but tried firefox too), and the (alsa?) command aplay won't play any .wavs. Flash sounds used to work okay with only the Audigy installed. I have tried to reinstall the flash player.Aplay -l :

Well I installed Ubuntu 10.10 64Bit along side Windows 7, and I've been unable to get any sounds working, apart from the log on sound. So I tried installing some drivers, and now there is no sound at all, and no sound devices show up in System-Preferences-Sound-hardware
I'm using the on board HD Audio (ALC 889A) and using the optical Audio out for 5.1 Surround sound.
I've tried just using the Stereo ( Green Jack ) out, and still nothing. The suggestions on the on the Ubuntu site, and the following post didn't seem to work either.

I Can't find a great deal of posts with the Realtek HD audio.
I have installed the Ubuntu 10.04 LTS on a Acer Aspire 4520 laptop and I can't get sound. I try to update alsamixer without any positive results. How can i get sounds on my laptop?

View 1 Replies View RelatedI'm running Ubuntu 9.10, but so far I've been unable to get sound to work. I know my sound card is Realtek, because I've had to install the HD Audio Codec Driver when I was on Windows. I downloaded the driver for Linux and it is currently sitting in my home folder. When I tried to Code:sudo ./installthe driver, it failed for the following reason:

I seem to be having some audio clashes. I use Exaile to play music (if that matters), and after I play music, no sound comes out of videos (not just Ubuntu, it won't work from Yahoo or MSN videos either). Then when I try to go back to playing my music on Exaile, no sound will come out of that. Likewise, if I restart the computer... the sound works again. If I instead watch a video first, there will be sound -- but as soon as I try to play music from Exaile, nothing comes out.

It still doesn't work. By compiling from alsa from source, it seems worse, the sound preference even couldn't pick up device. Also in current /usr/share/doc/alsa-base/driver/HD-Audio-Models.txt.gz. I could not find the module name for this nvidia or CirrusLogic device.
I'm running a Dell inspiron 1501 laptop with a sigmatel stac 9200 sound chipset.
When I had ubuntu 9.04, I had sound no problem and when I upgraded to 9.10 I had sound for a little bit. Now the only way I get sound off my laptop is by plugging in my headphones.
I've tried trouble shooting this a number of ways using the following links as the latest:

My question is...is there anyway to get sound on my laptop without having to go through headphones?
ps. I've installed and reinstalled ubuntu 9.10 and 9.04 and neither of them have sound.
I am running Karmic (9.10) on an MSI U120 Wind. I dislike netbook-remix but that is beside the point.
Last night I made the biggest mistake of my life which is causing a loss of still counting hours. I decided to do an update, due to having enough bandwidth, and security updates to download.
So it finished, and I went to sleep.
This morning I went to plug in my speakers to the audio jack so I can listen to music loud, and it was all distorted. I changed al 8 or 9 volume controls and nothing. I unplugged the wire from the audio jack, and the sound is perfect on my netbook's speakers.
I have tried different wires, speakers, editing config files, removing and purging related packages, and nothing works...
I have been google-ing for hours and everyone seems to have the same problem, but all of the supposed fixes do not work for me...
Here is a pastebin of my Alsa info : [URL]
I fear switching back to winblowz..
I was running Ubuntu 9.04 and just upgraded to 9.10 recently. I see many others are having problems with their sound. I too do not have sound. I did get sound running briefly with an Alsa update, but it was muffled. In trying many other fixes, I again have no sound and can not resolve it. I am thinking of burning a new cd and doing a fresh install and starting over.
My lap top is an MSI GT725 US model with an HD4850 mobility graphics card. I dual boot between Vista 32 bit and Ubuntu.
Has anyone else had any luck getting the Realtek ATI sound working in 9.10?
I'm pretty much an Ubuntu noob and I'm about to give up. I've spent hours reading tips and tricks to get this sound card working but I usually end up making things worse. This will be my last attempt
- onboard sound is disabled in BIOS
- Delta 1010LT is recognized
- fresh Ubuntu 10.04 32bit install . . . everything is default.
- I know how to access the terminal and for argument's sake, let's say that's it. I need step by step.
I tried to remove all instances of pulse audio in the past and it removed the desktop as well. Talk about frustrating. Ok, so here I am. Fresh install, no sound and I haven't touched a thing.
I have recorded some video, and now wanted to add some sound.I added a sound track, but when it's playing, I can't hear anything.I'm usually running Jack - for Ardour/Hydrogen etc... - I can't find anywhere in OpenShot to change the Audio to Jack, so assume it's not supported.I have killed Jack in the hope that Alsa will work with OpenShot, but still I have no sound.

I have the usual problem of "My sound is not working". I have a few images and my output from:
Code:

Code:
lspci -v
and
Code:
aplay -l
I can't really do anything with the speaker as it is hidden in the case.
i just installed a new Ubuntu 10.10, but i have no sound at all. I google-d for my problem, but i cant find any fix. In sound preferences - everything look great and working - there is my X-fi Xtreme audio CA0110-IBG, and i can choose how many channels to use, but when i go to test button, there are no sound from any channel. I got 5.1 sound system, and i use Flexijack for mic. Im confused, because everything looks like working - the system recognises my sound card, but there no sound at all. I tried to kill pulseaudio, but it not help me.
View 8 Replies View RelatedRecently I installed Ubuntu 10.10 64bit and I have a problem with it.
I have a motherboard with internal audio card as well as I have ATI 2600 card. When I just installed Ubuntu 10.10 sound via motherboard worked perfectly.
But some time later it disappeared. Actually "Output device" that represents audio card disappeared. See screenshot of the Audio Settings dialog.
I made 2 thing - most likely that one of them cause this problem:
- I tried to setup Panasonic Plasma TV as a second monitor via HDMI output of my video card (ATI 2600).
- I added maven-backports repository (new kernel or new audio driver?)
Have anybody seen this problem? Are any pointers how to fix it? If you need any additional info - let me know I'll be glad to provide it.
I can't seem to get my computer to record the audio from an application... Sound Recorder, Audacity, and outRec all output files but they are just silence, even though when I see them in a media player they show the visualizations. I have followed a couple guides to no avail.
