View 1 Replies View RelatedThere are absolutely no wifi hotspots near my school which doesnt have wifi. The only free hotspot is in the bar, and I use it quite often when I take laptop with me. Well, when I don't have wifi access I use my phone. When I had my old laptop with windows on it I could use nokia pc suite to connect to internet via phone on my laptop. Now I am 100% linux user (no way you would force me to go back, specially not on a laptop).
I was wondering if there is any software for fedora 12 that could do a similar thing and turn my phone in a modem...

View 13 Replies View RelatedTrying to move from Windows to OpenSUSE. I have installed OpenSUSE 11.2, and am having a hard time trying to connect to the internet using my nokia E65. I have tried to configure the modem thru YaST and it keeps showing that my nokia E65 modem is not configured, but adds another modem every time I configure using the edit button i.e. modem0, modem1 etc.
When i finish the configuration I get pop ups on the bottom right conner:
Notification from network management
WLAN interface attached
Network interface attached
But nothing happens afterwards. When I connect the phone it shows that it is recognized as a modem (probably). but when I click on the icon so it connects to my service provider "econet" it just says activating with a red x in the conner, and still nothing happens!
The following are the screenshots (still not sure how to attach files on this forum), may someone assist, with that too.
I really want to move from Windows but this is what's stopping me. the sooner I connect to the Internet through my phone, the sooner I leave Windows, since it's the only way I can connect to the internet.
I have tried wvdial, and I got the following:

It worked in 10.04 using ndiswrapper, but the connection was very weak (In Windows, it works perfectly). I blame ndiswrapper and the windows driver for the connection issues. In 10.10 x64, using ndiswrapper does not work. It says hardware present, but iwconfig shows no wlan0 adapter. I downloaded the driver from RealTek's website (rtl8192su) and compiled it. It gave a lot of warnings about integers being out of range, but I ignored them and went on anyway. If you want the exact warnings, I can put them on a pastebin and post the link tonight when I get home from work.
After doing a make install, I plugged in my adapter. As soon as it kicked on, the light on the adapter would blink and the screen would go black with a lone cursor in the top left corner of the screen. The drivers are obviously suspect, since I can make uninstall, plug in the adapter, and continue on with no network.Has anyone gotten this adapter/other adapters with the rtl8192su firmware working in 10.10 using a stock x64 install? It has to be stock or using packages available on the disk since without using the adapter, I have no internet.Maybe I'll try the drivers on 10.04 and see if they're just not compatible with 10.10.
A few days ago I decided to do a clean install of 11.04 (which I was running when I followed this thread [URL], which solved my problem of my wifi not being able to surf the web or download anything, even though it said i was connected). After the install i noticed that my wifi was acting up and I realized I had to install the realtek driver again, like I did the first time. I followed the thread I stated above again the exact same as I did the first time when it worked for me, now when I boot up I get stuck after the grub menu, it goes to a black screen and I cannot get off of it. I reinstalled ubuntu 11.04 and everything was fine, then I compiled the realtk driver again and the same thing happened. Kernel version 3.6.38-10 Generic (I think this has something to do with the black screen after the Grub menu).
