It is a wired connection through Time Warner and worked flawless with XP. It will not load any page except for google.com homepage and I cannot access any of the links in the search results of google. I know the internet works since google will load and I have done all that I can think of (ping and manually enter my connection) and nothing works. I am running the OS on a Acer Aspire M1610 desktop.

The only problem is,I cant see any wireless networks in range. I know the router is working because I can connect with Windows fine. A notification also pops up telling me i have to install missing drivers. But when i click on install, the progress gets to 99% and fails. It says i need the Broadcom B43 driver, but i don't know how to get it.
View 8 Replies View RelatedI've been trying for 3 days now, gone to a couple of ubuntu sites, asked some friends who unfortunately don't have the time to assist me, and gone through several forum responses on here to try to find the solution to my problem.The problem is my inability to connect to my wireless network. I have a linksys USB device for my wireless, and the wireless router is literally right next door to my room. I am able to find my router and my neighbor's router from my computer. However I can not connect to my router. It is WPA enabled, and I have the correct password. It is just unable to connect to the network, it tries for a few minutes then doesn't connect at all and says wireless network disconnected. I am currently hooked up to an unsecured wireless network, but I can't connect to the internet. I am using firefox, but it doesn't seem to connect to any site I try.

I am using Ubuntu 10.04. My problem is that I am unable to access my internet using Ubuntu. My internet is running fine on Windows 7 installed on same system. I am a bit unfamiliar with Linux. Everything seems to be working fine on the installation except I have never been able to connect to the internet (I'm on mac connected to the same linksys router at the moment). I've been working on this for several days and have exhausted all the possible causes. Here is my setup.
My setup:
-I have tried running both 10.10 and 10.04 (I have 10.04 installed at the moment)
-I have windows xp on a separate hard drive on the same computer and the internet works fine when I boot in windows
-I have tried both automatic DHCP (which my windows uses) and manually connecting to my network under the IPv4 settings
-my "Connection Information" info under networks manager has all the correct information listed as far as my driver, IP address, Bcast, mask, DNS serves are concerned (except I don't know what 'default route' is for so I can't verify that that is correct.)
-my ethernet connection is wired connection that is connected to a linksys router
-my ethernet driver is sis190
-I can ping my router successfully, but I cannot ping anything (i.e. websites) on the other side of my router
I use Hasee L141 notebook and ever since I installed ubuntu, my internet connection using both wire and wireless does not work but for the windows it works alright. I asked friends to help me but it yielded no result. Is there anything that I'm missing? I re-installed it several times but still had the same problems.Someone please help me. I even tried installing using the wubi.exe but still the same problem.

I have recently installed ubuntu 9.10. Earlier I had ubuntu 9.04. On that my internet was running perfectly well.After installation I created new connection as I had done for 9.04 version using "Network connections , Edit connections". However, after configuring connection(uname , password etc.) I wasn't able to access Internet.So I tried using "pppoeconf" utility. After using this now whenever I click on network connections applet on top panel , it shows in menu "device not managed".Can somebody point out what went wrong and what to do so as to be able to acess Internet in ubuntu?

Then he downloaded a programme called wireshark. Since the installation of that programme there has been no internet. I'm connecting to a network via a Belkin F7D1101. The adapter appears to be working fine, as I can see various wireless networks available and I am able to connect to my personal wireless network. The problem is that even though I am connected and have a valid IP, I am unable to browse the Internet. I can't even ping the router!
I initially thought it may be an issue with WPA, but I have installed wpa-supplicant and as a means of testing, I turned off WPA on the router, and the issue still stands.
I have dual boot system and on windows I am able to connect to wireless but on Ubuntu I am not able to connect to wireless.
I desire to learn to trouble shoot the problem my self hence I would appreciate if some one guides me How to look for the problem.

I just installed Ubuntu Netbook 10.10 on my Lenovo ideapad S10e. Under the network manager it says that firmware is not installed for the wirless card but that is something for a different day. On the ethernet connection it attempts to connect via dhcp and then comes up saying it is disconnected. I attempted to set it as a static connection, when i do that it shows that its connected but I still can not connect to the internet.

The problem is, the files on this stick all have .exe extension. I tried to use Wine to make them work, but Wine says that they are not marked as executable. So I tried to change that, but I got a message saying that the files are "read-only", and I cannot make that change.

If 3G signal is fairly strong, downloading speed reaches 200 KB/s for 600 MB/Day, then for the rest of the day it switches to 2G mode with 15 KB/s max downloading speed. If 3G signal is weak, it switches automatically to 2G, and that's what I hate. Under Windows, I can manually force the modem to connect in 3G mode even if the signal is weak.

I was connecting to the internet with an external modem and everything was running fine, until while experimenting with the settings,i bust the whole thing. I have ubuntu on a desktop that works just fine. however w/ kubuntu no such luck. i realize its just kde vs gnome and am connected to the same router and such so all should work just fine, but alas it doesn't.the desktop is configured using dhcp, not static IPs.

The server connects fine, I can load pages, FTP in, etc. So everything seems good on that end. When I try to use the internet from the Ubuntu box, however, it doesn't seem to want to connect. The internet won't load through firefox, and attempting to update through the repository won't connect. I've tried playing around with refreshing the connection and rebooting and such, but nothing seems to be fixing this. I can't think of what the issue may be as the connection is working, as I can get on the server, but can't seem to get it to connect outward from the actual box.
View 5 Replies View RelatedI am unable to connect to the Internet in lucid via a proxy server using apt-get or synaptic. Opera & firefox connects to the internet fine with the proxy setting.
I have tried the following solutions:
1) set proxy setting using systems|preferences|network proxy
2) editing ~/.bashrc & /etc/.bashrc
3) creating a /etc/apt/apt.conf file.
4) putting the proxy setting in synaptic
For the proxy setting I have used the both the verbose name as well as the ip address. There is no logon requirements for the proxy server. Either formats work in the browsers.
when I was still at my university room where the connection would work after a few reboots. After moving back home the connection worked on and off for a day before not working at all. NetworkManager is telling me that I am connected and have an ip address, etc, but nothing is able to get an internet connection. I am able to ping myself but am not able to ping my router. Everything works fine on M$ and other PC's on the network, it's just my ubuntu 10.04 that is playing up.
