Ubuntu Networking :: Unable To "find" Network Drive

I have recently installed a linksys wrt610n router, as it has the ability to plug in and access a USB hardrive/memeroy stick. The hardrive already has info on it, and it's running NTFS file system (which after reading may be a problem) In the 192.168.1.1 router setup area I can see the hardrive, share the folders I wish, and seemingly grant access to it. I am sitting here on my Ubuntu computer trying to map said network drive, but I am unable to see it. However I can access it just fine from my wifes Macbook.
Any search has shown problems with Samba/Windows being resolved, but I can't find anything regarding this situation. I've tried the adive given here; [URL] I've also tried using the pyNeighborhood program, this program will atleast see the drive, but scanning fails, and I can not "mount" with it either.

I desire to access a WD Netcenter network drive from Ubuntu 10.10 using NFS mounts.Several on line helps show how if you know the IP address of the drive. How can I discover the IP address of the drive. My Windows network is using DHCP, though I understand that the drive uses a static address. I know the MAC address of the drive. As a user (but not an administrator), I have much Unix experience.

I normally connect to a free wireless project, and did have a Windows box until yesterday when I installed Fedora 10. When I was using Windows, I was able to connect to the unsecured wireless network. Now on Fedora 10, the wireless card is working and is able to pick up signals but the signal strengths are markedly decreased and I am unable to see the network which I usually connected to.I really don't want to go back to Windows.

I am unable to access wireless network from my notebook. My configuration is Dell i5, 4GB RAM and 1397 W-LAN and I have F13. I can still access Internet through Ethernet using a LAN cable but the network monitor doesn't show list of Wireless networks which my room mate's windows 7 machine easily detects.
If anyone needs more info please provide me the steps to perform to find that out

Just added a DVD drive to a machine which had no drive before. When I boot I get the error about being unable to find the root drive by its UUID. If I unplug the DVD drive it boots as normal.
I'm guessing the root drive is getting a new name i.e /dev/sda2 instead of sda1 and thus a new UUID. How can I add the drive and fix the UUID issue in grub?

When I start the Live CD I can see my harddrive and access it. But when I start the setup, it cant find the harddrive and I can not choose it. Ive tryed more than one cd's and another distro (built on Ubuntu). The hard drive works fine, Ive got Windows 7 already on it (help me change back to linux). I know the computer works fine as I once used another computer to install ubuntu on the harddrive and then moved the harddrive to my computer.

I was trying to figure out how to get my network drive to mount as a local drive on my computer. This was back on 9.10. Since I've upgraded to 10.04, my boot process halts and tells me (paraphrasing) /shared is not ready to mount. To continue, pres S to skip or M to manually mount the drive.
Well, I have it mounting now through GVFS and I don't need this in my startup anymore. Frankly, it's just annoying that it won't boot into Ubuntu right away. So, what's the startup file I need to edit to remove the attempt to mount the network drive?

I'm unable to mount a network drive on my ubuntu 10.04. Here is how my fstab looks like:

I am unable to find other computers on my local network from my workstation.
Code:
nmap 192.168.0.*
shows me the workstation and the gateway(192.168.0.1)
My workstation has 2 interfaces: eth0 and eth1. both are checked in the "trusted interfaces" section of system-config-firewall. Network is currently connected to eth1. If I run the same nmap command from my laptop (also fedora), it outputs everything on the network but my workstation. The strange thing is that the workstation has functioning internet connection.

I have ldap authentication working and the machine is joined to the domain, but I have to append the domain name to my login every time I log in. example: user@domain.I've been unable to find away to log in without appending the domain name to the username. Any ideas on how I can force the machine to automatically append the name for me?

I want to share files from my opensuse 11.3 laptop and Windows XP desktop. It works well between Vista and XP. The domain name is WORKGROUP I checked everything: firewall Opensuse (open ports), firewall XP (disabled), XP workgroup name (WORKGROUP), opensuse Samba workgroup name (WORKGROUP) And my domain controller is set to "Not a DC" Still when I launch network in Dolphin I get "Unable to find any workgroups in your local network"

How it works in Windows.
I have a server designated as F: drive. This server is a linux server. All computers that access this server are windows machines.
In windows, you can make a "Short Cut" that links a Executable program to the F: drive on the server. When you click on this "Short Cut", Windows will "Run" your program in the exact directory the Executable is located.
Thus, if you Make a "Short Cut" called "Customer" on your network F: drive, you can click on that shortcut and "Customer" will run as if you ran it directly off the F: drive, NOT your station drive of C:
Now *MY* scenario what I WANT to do:
I want to copy the above scenario and be able to do the same thing with Linux and WINE.
I have tried to make a "Shortcut" to my Linux laptop, but it fails. I can only "Copy" the program to the laptop. And when I run it on the laptop, it will not run, because it does not recognize the "F:" drive having all the data files, it only recognizes the C: drive of my linux.
When I tried to make a "link", it says something like "LInk not supported by this file".
So, is it possible to make a "shortcut" to a executable file on the network server, so that if you run the shortcut, it will run the program as if it is located on the F: server instead of the linux station? In Windows, it has a field that says "Target", in which the file will be ran in that directory.

I just switched from Ubuntu to Fedora 13 because I was unable to get Ubuntu to connect to wireless networks. I tried everything suggested in help and forums, and kept getting "Bad Password" with WICD and Network Manager. Now, with Fedora...I still can't connect.
Problem #1: The guide says to "...make sure that the relevant wireless interface (usually eth0 or eth1) is controlled by NetworkManager," and that I do this via: System>Administration>Network
However, there is no Network option under System>Administration.
Problem #2: I open Network Manager, which displays a list of networks. I click on mine, configure it with WPA and the right password, and it fails to connect: "The network connection has been disconnected."

I'm unable to connect to a particular home wireless network under Fedora 9, although I can connect to it using WinXP on the same machine. My Fedora installation is able to connect to my college's unsecured wireless network, so it's not a driver issue I think.It seems to be an authorisation issue, as I'll describe below, but there's one other thing that's bothering me. The SSID for the network I have problems with is for some reason not listed in Network Manager's drop-down list, nor is it in the output of iwlist wlan0 scan. But I'm pretty sure it's not a "hidden" network - I don't know exactly how those work, but I helped the owner of the wifi network in setting it up, and don't remember doing anything that would make it hidden. As far as I can remember, Windows found the network automatically without having to be told the SSID. What's the best way to confirm whether it's a hidden network or not?
Anyway, I try to connect by selecting connect to other wireless network in Network Manager, and entering the SSID. As far as I can tell from the error messages below, the machine does contact the network and attempt to connect, but I'm not authorising myself properly. That may be a completely wrong diagnosis, but hopefully someone can see from the below info whether it's correct or not.I'm not sure which option to use for "Wireless Security": at the time we set up the network, it gave us a Hex WEP key of 26 characters, which is 104 bits. But none of the options in Network Manager's list match that. Here are the options it has, and the error message I get with each one:None - if I select this, it fails to connect, with no error message.
WEP 128-bit passphrase - if I select this and attempt to use my 26-character WEP key, it brings up a new dialog, saying "Passwords or encryption keys are required to access the wireless network [SSID]." It has a drop-down box labelled "Wireless Security", but this time the only option is "None", and the connect button is disabled, I can only click cancel.
WEP 40/128-bit hex - as above.
WEP 40/128-bit ASCII - The connect button is disabled when I try to use the WEP key, as the string is too long. Despite the fact that it says 40/128-bit, it actually accepts 5 and 13-character strings (40 or 104-bit). Since I've got a 104-bit hex key, I tried converting it to ASCII, but it consists of mostly unprintable characters, so I'm not sure there's any way to actually enter it into the textfield. I might have done something wrong here, so I've put my code below to see if anyone can point out a mistake.
LEAP - requires a username, not applicable here I think. Windows doesn't need one, and we don't have one from when we set the network up.Dynamic WEP (802.1x) - requires username, private key and various other things, all N/A WPA & WPA2 Personal - Brings up a dialog with the same text as for "128-bit passphrase", but this time "WPA & WPA2 Personal" is the only option in the drop-down list, instead of "None". It asks for a password, so I just enter the hex key again - now it asks for the password for the Gnome Default Keyring, which I don't think I've ever set up. Don't know if I can go any further with that, but my understanding is that since we were given a WEP key when we set up the network, WPA will be N/A.WPA & WPA2 Enterprise - as Dynamic WEP. N/A.Hopefully that's enough info that someone can help diagnose the problem. Some of the behaviour of Network Manager described above doesn't make sense to me, and I'm wondering if it's buggy.

I'm trying to get online on my laptop, I just installed Ubuntu 10.04 (Side by side with Windows 7.) I'm looking over the networking help files, as well as the troubleshooting and nothing seems to be working. [URL]. From this troubleshooting guide it tells me to open the terminal and type the command "sudo lshw -C network" and when I do, it asks me for my password but when I try to type it, nothing comes up. So I run it without typing sudo. It says "*-network DISABLED" which in the troubleshooting guide means that my router is off, but I'm clearly online on this computer as of right now.

I was using ubuntu 9.04 and everything was working flawlessly with my network. The only problem with 9.04 is that it was unsupported and I couldn't install the packages I wanted to such as Cairo dock so I decided to upgrade to 9.10 which is a lot better. However I ran into a problem that I never had on 9.04. I cant connect to MY wireless network (my Belkin wireless card can detect networks but not mine) I have a netgear router WNDR3700v2 with WPA2 encryption. I thought that the encryption was the problem so I turned it off and ubuntu could still not find the SSID through the network manager. My SSID broadcast is on.

I have a ZTE CDMA 1x Modem (Reliance Netconnect). The modem has a USB interface and it works as a PLUG-&-PLAY device on windows (and has a Flash Storage too for driver information for windows.) I am unable to find my modem on Linux machine so that i can use wvdial for getting connected to internet on my linux machine. This the dmesg output for my modem.

just switched from Windows Vista to Ubuntu 10.10 on my Toshiba laptop and I'm loving it, except for some wireless connection problems. About 70% of the time, my computer is unable to find any wireless signals whatsoever, despite being right next to the router. When it does find the signal it connects fine and runs great, but most of the time it doesn't show any signals at all. I can't find any pattern to when it does or doesn't find the signal. I have been running F13 since it came out, with the wireless working fine since I got it working (using the RPM Fusion repository, broadcom-wl-5.60.48.36-1.fc13). Since I updated software (without reading what was to be updated), yesterday, I am unable to even find wireless networks, although I am, as you can see, able to access through eth0 It is not a hardware problem, as I can not only find them, but access them on Ubuntu 9.10 live disc.
