Ubuntu Networking :: Smbus2 Probe Smb2 Not Found
May 18, 2010
Internet worked great.
Now while booting there's an error message that says something like, smbus2 probe smb2 not found. While this is on the screen the background turns green.
The networking applet shows the network present but will not accept the security password and connect.

I have a clean install of mythbuntu 10.10 and I am trying to get a DVB-T USB stick working for the last 2 weeks. Its a MobiDTV and it seems to have the same chipset/USB ID as EzCap_DVB_T_Stick. I followed the instructions on the [URL] and eventually got the driver compiled (I had to amend some code, change "Bool" pointers to "bool" and add a FIRMWARE MAX_NAME 30 constant). I also copied the af9035 FW file to the firmware directory.
lsusb:
Bus 002 Device 004: ID 15a4:1001 Afatech Technologies, Inc. AF9015/AF9035 DVB-T stick
but it is not working; probe is failing:
dmesg:
[ 105.104195] DRIVER_RELEASE_VERSION : v2.0-1
[ 105.104203] FW_RELEASE_VERSION : v8_8_52_0
[ 105.104209] API_RELEASE_VERSION : 200.20081203.0
[ 105.110713] [Device_init] Error 1
[ 105.110733] dvb_usb_af903x: probe of 2-5:1.1 failed with error 9
I bought the hardware with Windows 7 MCE in mind. I have no Windows 7 disk so I installed Mythbuntu on it to see if build was solid and now I don't want Windows any more.

I am having trouble upgrading from old grub to grub-pc. I have a clean install of 9.10 on a system with a new ASUS motherboard with Nvidia RAID configured as RAID 0.Although I read the page on SATA pseudo-RAID, this doesn't seem to apply, as both 9.10 and Windows XP installed cleanly without any additional drivers required.I did notice that contrary to the documentation, 9.10 installed with grub v0.97, not the new one as claimed. It is working fine, but just to be ornery, I'm trying to upgrade to the new one, and this is where I ran into trouble.Whenever I try to run grub-upgrade, I get an error from grub-probe that 'no mapping exists for' my raid partition. Apparently grub-probe can deal with the device, but not with the fs_uuid, as follows:
twescott@latitude:~$ sudo grub-probe -t device /boot/grub
/dev/mapper/nvidia_fcacbeib5
twescott@latitude:~$ sudo grub-probe -t fs_uuid /boot/grub
grub-probe: error: no mapping exists for `nvidia_fcacbeib5'
The system seems to be recognizing the RAID with no problems, as in:
twescott@latitude:~$ sudo blkid
/dev/mapper/nvidia_fcacbeib1: UUID="28D83EB2D83E7DDE" TYPE="ntfs"
/dev/mapper/nvidia_fcacbeib2: UUID="4344165e-07c3-4da6-b640-da9bf964a74e" TYPE="swap"
/dev/sda: TYPE="nvidia_raid_member"
[code]....
I'm thinking the problem may be in my grub device.map file, which only lists the SATA raw device aliases, but I may be completely wrong:
twescott@latitude:~$ cat /boot/grub/device.map
(hd0) /dev/sda
(hd1) /dev/sdb

Ioscan command is not found in my terminal and I can't find it in my Package Manager or a RPM search. A GUI version would also be of interest but not mandatory.I'm a Mandriva defector that is wheening off of Drake Tools.

I'm having troubles using this not so new webcam. I didnt found any thread that have a problem like mine. In older kernel versions the webcam started working compiling and installing zc3xx module, but as far as I googled and lsmod this module now comes with default kernel. As I can see, the module itself recognizes the webcam, but fails in the process.Does someone have some idea of fixing? Should I report it to launchpad (and so, which section?)?

I just installed Fedora 11 on an AMD CPU PC. I get the following error during boot up.Aug 22 21:42:07 dragon8 kernel: aic7xxx: probe of 0000:00:0a.0 failed with error -38 Because the aic7xxx has the error, it does not load the st module. I manually loaded the st module, but the /dev/st? devices do not get created, I assume because of the aix7xxx error.I can access the Adaptec AHA-2940W Bios during boot up and see the 2 tape drives that are connected to it.

I'm looking through dmesg and see
Code:
nvidia: probe of 0000:00:03.5 failed with error -1
the corresponding bus is
Code:
00:03.5 Co-processor: nVidia Corporation MCP79 Co-processor (rev b1)
Subsystem: nVidia Corporation Device cb79
Flags: 66MHz, fast devsel, IRQ 16
Memory at 93300000 (32-bit, non-prefetchable) [size=512K]
Kernel modules: nvidia
from where I infer that the module is correctly loaded though. Do you guys know what is the -1 error code? is there any way I could check if the coprocessor is currently working?

I am trying to use a rig with Gigabyte GA-880GA-UD3H mother board and Intel 82574L based NIC (EXPI9301CTBLK) under CentOS 5.5. Unfortunately I have issue with the NIC - during boot it fails to initialize:
[Code]....
I receive the same result with the original e1000e driver from the distribution, the latest elrepo driver and the latest driver from Intel site (as seen in the example). I have tried also 2.6.37 kernel version - with the same result. The adapter however works fine under Windows (MiniXP from Hiren's BootCD) and with Ubuntu 10.10 LiveCD.

I am using Ubuntu Karmic. For the past 6 months I could pick up the WiFi spot in our house, until last weekend when it just disappeared from my network manager. Everyone else in my house can see the WiFi and connect, even the Karmic users - only me has nothing! I can see our neighbors' WiFi though - I could always see it, so I don't think the problem is with my hardware.
I tried to reinstall the connection via network manager - did not work. I reinstalled Karmic - no effect. I tried Lucid - nothing!! It just disappeared! I had connection 3 days ago, but now I don't know what to do.

I'm running ubuntu 10.04 and I need to set up samba. I haven't used samba since ubuntu 8.10 and I don't know if there have been changes that I'm not aware of. I remember it being a simple process that started with editing the configuration file, but I keep getting this message:
Code:
/etc/samba/smb.conf': No such file or directory
Am I missing something? Has the configuration file changed names?

I'm running Ubuntu 10.04 64bit on a Thinkpad T61, and I keep running into some issues with the wireless networks. For a while, the connection works fine (sometimes several hours, sometimes 15 minutes or so--there doesn't appear to be an event associated with it). Eventually, though, the connection disappears; first, though the widgets say I'm connected, nothing will go through, and soon after, it realizes I'm not connected and, moreover, it can't find a single wireless network, despite the fact that it was just fine a couple of minutes beforehand (and other devices still have access to the WLAN, so I know that the router hasn't crapped out). I've tried using wicd, but the same thing happens.

I have an Acer AspireOne D255 netbook. I just installed Ubuntu Netbook Remix 10.10 and it looks pretty sweet.Right now, I'm on a wired connection. It's not detecting any networks, and I know at least my home wifi should show up (and usually we can get onto our neighbors!)I used to have a different model of an AspireOne (I think it was 531h but I'm not 100% sure) with UNR 10.04, and my network was detected right out of the box.
This reminds me of when I installed the desktop version of 10.04 on my iMac. I couldn't bring the wired connection to the room it was in, and my wifi didn't show up on it. I just gave up because I like my Mac so it wasn't a *huge* deal. but I definitely don't want to use this stupid Windows 7 Starter that comes on this netbook!

I just installed 10.10 on a Dell Inspiron 1300. The wired connection(eth0) works fine but I get no wireless signal when I unplug and try to connect to my network/internet. It shows that wlan0 does exist but it gets no signal. I've used the rfkill to make sure that it wasn't blocked and everything seems to be ok, except I get no wireless signal.
I uninstalled Network Manager and installed Wcid and it found nothing. I even tried installing several signal scanners I found in the package manager. I've removed, updated and reinstalled the broadcom drivers. I still get nothing. The wireless signal from my router is nonexistent according to Ubuntu.
The wireless works fine when I put my windows XP HD in and it also works fine when I put my Mepix or PCLinux OS HDs in the laptop. So I know that the wireless card is not busted.

I just installed ubuntu server 10.10 and need to do one of two things: 1. I want to refer to the ubuntu server by a computer name from other computer on the network. This does not work. No other computer can find ubuntu server by its computer name except ubuntu itself. I can ping by the computer name on the computer itself: ping UbuntuComputer gets response but on another computer on the same network the computer cannot be found. Note if you use the IP address you can certainly find UbuntuComputer. Basically, from another computer on the same network I can ping the Ubuntu computer by IP but not by computer name, but if I go to the Ubuntu computer itself and ping it by name then it pings successfully. I am trying to ping the Ubuntu computer with a windows machine...that could be the case. 2. So being the case that I cannot get number one to work, I said ok, lets just set a static route then. So here is my primary network interface setup:
[code]...
This works until some unknown time which it sets itself back to 10.0.1.7. If I use the command /etc/init.d/networking restart then it will go back to 10.0.1.137. So, on problem 1 why can't I see the ubuntu server by computer name on other computers on the network? Oh and here is the hosts file:
127.0.0.1 UbuntuComputer localhost.localdomain localhost
::1 UbuntuComputer localhost6.localdomain6 localhost6
127.0.1.1 UbuntuComputer
On problem 2 why the heck does settings a static ip keep getting reset back to dynamic? This is a fresh install of ubuntu server 10.10 with maverick gui installed.

I'v tried to uninstall and reinstall wubbi 4 times already. Before the OS even start up it says that it cannot find the wireless kernel and then it boots me up into that start up with the *configuration wizard* and that fails as well and asks me to reboot. How can i get my wireless transfered to Ubuntu without using a flash drive or CD? I thought that Ubuntu would automatically detect my wireless but i see no options as such.

During install of 9.10 server, both ethernet adapters were found. One is built-in to the motherboard, the second is on a PCIe slot. Selected the on-board adapter for eth0 during install, set fixed IP on the web, connected, updated, etc. w/ no problems. The second adapter is for the LAN.BUT, on first and subsequent reboots after installation complete the second adapter is not detected at all, as if it were not even plugged into the PCI or the driver not loaded. This happens on either of two slots, with two different adapters, Intel or Netgear, both pretty recent, and both of which are detected and work in a different box. 'Ethtool eth1' says device not found. This is a fairly recent motherboard 3N78EM).Since the adapter was found during installation I'm assuming that the problem is not with not the board. I've built several server systems with two or three ethernet adapters and have never run into this situation.

I have been trying to get my Belkin FD8233-4v3 wireless-n usb adapter to work in Ubuntu since 8.04. It has worked with ndiswrapper under 32-bit (never the 64-bit) versions in the past, but has never been able to be configured directly. It uses the Ralink RT2870 chipset, but cannot seem to be configured using the drivers from the Ralink website.
With Ubuntu 10.04 64-Bit, everything has changed. I have high hopes that this adapter may finally work correctly and without ndiswrapper. As soon as I first booted 10.04, for the first time ever, Ubuntu recognized the IF automatically, reported my wireless router, allowed me to enter my 128-bit WEP hex code and tried to connect up. It is failing miserably, but it is making a valiant effort.

I tried searching but received hundreds of unrelated posts.
When using the Ubuntu 10.04 Live CD I had no problem connecting through my wired network connection. After installation all I can find is the Wireless connection.
I have a Toshiba Satellite A70 laptop. A check of the system shows no eth0 available. What do I need to do to get the wired connection back again?
Also, if the wired worked before installation, why doesn't it work afterwards?

Ubuntu 10.04 x86. Yesterday I installed 10.10 and had lots of trouble with wireless stability. I formatted the partition and installed 10.04. My wireless router does not show up in the available routers list. Neither in the list that immediately shows or under the More networks submenu. Lots of other routers from adjacent homes show up, but not mine in the other room.
Why? It shows up on all of my other computers. My MacBook, Windows 7 (different partition on same box), my older Ubuntu netbook, and it showed up on a previous install of 10.10 (though it could not maintain the connection longer than 5 minutes). It will not show up on Ubuntu 10.04. I've tried manually entering the information to connect, but it doesn't see it. I don't know what to do.
