I have been using 10.4 as a Linux NFS server to share it's storage with a number of Mac computers we use in the office. All the Macs are configured to connect to the Linux server using the mount_nfs command in terminal.I have been using this method to transfer files to and from the Linux server for a while. Today, I installed a number of standard Ubuntu updates / security patches per the standard GUI update tool.
Now, I'm getting "nfs server 192.x.x.x:/media/video: lockd not responding" error messages. I have not seen this error before, and I haven't changed anything else about the configuration of the Linux server or the Macs with the exception of the installation of the security patches.

I am running ubuntu 10.04 on a VMWare Server virtual machine. I have assigned the ubuntu machine an ip address of 192.168.17.101. The ip address of my Windows machine hosting the Ubuntu VM is 192.168.17.100.
From the Ubuntu machine, I can ping all other machines on the local subnet. But when I try to ping the ubuntu machine, it does not get a reply.
I have a clean, plain install and the only software I have installed is Nagios.

I have installed Net-SNMP.It is binded to port udp 161I start it with the command: snmpd -Lo
when I do snmpget -v 1 -c public localhost system.sysObjectID.0on the same machine the snmpd is running on- I get a respond SNMPv2-MIB::sysObjectID.0 = OID: ccitt.1when I send same request from another machine (using SNMPc program) - I see no reaction.I used "wireshark" to monitor packets, and I see the requests sent from the other machine. I also see them get to the first machine.

My current situation is that the command "sudo modprobe ndiswrapper" is not responding, nothing happens. I am using [URL] as my guide and the "sudo modprobe ndiswrapper" is my next step. Here is some general information that you might ask for:
I received ndiswrapper utilities from "Synaptic Package Manager"
I was using jaunty jackelop before hand and the instructions worked perfectly but I decided to update to Karmic Koala 9.10 (I first installed the cloud enterprise version and realized that was way over my head).

The server is a Dell 1650 1U server, which a fresh install of CentOS 5.3, formatting the drive in the process. It has two e1000 NIC's and based on the wiring eth0 is the public segment and eth1 is the private segment. Both nic's make a solid 100mb connection to the cisco switch, and I can ping both interfaces "just fine".
If I run nmap on a remote PC that is also dual-homed in this fashion, I get the same response as to which ports are open (essentially everything since I disabled iptables temporarily to troubleshoot this issue) on both interfaces, which would be the expected result.But... and here is the source of my confusion... I can see the server by pinging it, I can use SSH to make such a connection and log in, but I cannot get apache to "answer the phone" so to speak.Runing "tcpdump -i eth0" shows me that my browser on a remote PC is attempting to connect, but without reply. If I send my browser to the ip address of eth1, I get the default CentOS new web server page as is the norm.Nothing shows in my /var/log/httpd/access_log or error_log at all... apache simply isn't answering. The httpd.conf is the original, and the one line I attempted to 'adjust' was the "listen 80" line, which I added the ip addresses specifically, but that didn't change anything.I am unsure how nmap can indicate the port is open and there is a service behind it, when on the same PC that ran nmap, I cannot connect at all.Might anyone have a clue to toss me so I can work to figure this out?

Currently have a problem with my LTSP server when using a gigabit switch with a megabit thin client.I am using K12LTSP with Fedora 9.The thin clients get most of the way through booting up then I get error messages saying:nfs: server 172.31.6.1 not responding, still trying.I don't get this problem if I use a 100 meg switch though.I have found several forum posts on the internet which all seem to point to the following webpage with a solution:However, when I make the recommended changes It doesnt make a difference.Below is an example of the default file located at /var/lib/tftpboot/ltsp/i386/pxelinux.cfg with its default settings:

I am running a 2 NIC system with the routing table for eth0 allows user access to the internet, etc. and eth1 routes to another private network (192.168.x.x). eth1 is configured to handle DHCP requests. When a device connected via eth1 boots, it requests an IP from the DHCP server. Using tcpdump, eth1 is receiving the request but is not offering a lease.dhcp.conf seems to be configuring the DHCP service correctly. and dhcpd is running. The host is running Red Hat Enterprise Linux (Server Edition) 5.1. Perhaps I need to modify fire-wall rules (or disable them on eth1 altogether)?

I have a strange problem where my machine will suddenly stop responding to connections while still remaining partially connectible. Here's an example sequence of events I have taken (numerous times). If anyone can spot something else I should check or has seen these symptoms before please let me know.1) System is using an Edimax 7318-usg, Ubuntu 10.042) Wifi connection is working, with power management turned off (iwconfig)3) Signal strength does not cause the connection to drop (confirmed with router logs)4) When in a ssh session on the problem machine suddenly the ssh session is dropped "host is down"5) When I attempt to re-initiate ssh it fails, no route to host...6) Pinging it fails, accessing a webpage hosted on it fails, all access fails7) The machine I'm pinging/sshing from still has a good network connection8 ) I check my routers DHCP leases, problem machine still has a valid lease.
9) Router still shows problem machine in routing & arp table & shows active traffic going to and from (I checked the routers states and bandwidth monitor for this)10) I try sshing and pinging the problem machine from the laptop on the local network, it still fails, no route to host, wtf?11) I go to the problem machine physically, wifi connection is up with decent signal12) ifconfig indicates it still holds an IP address13) I open a browser on the problem machine, any webpage loads fine14) I ping the laptop from the problem machine, ok15) I ssh from the problem machine to my laptop, it works16) At this point I ssh from the laptop to the problem machine, sometimes it works sometimes it fails(it seems that pinging/sshing the laptop FROM the problem machine sometimes makes it connectable again).
17) Usually if I wait a while the problem machine will randomly become connectable again at random intervals18 ) The only reliable way to make the problem machine connectable again is manually reconnecting it to the wireless network19) I tailed auth.log ufw.log, etc. nothing suspicious disallowing my ssh connection20) dmesg shows nothing unusual, as far as I can tell, just some activity negotiating WPA keys and suchBy looking at the timestamp for the WPA negotiation and cross referencing the router bandwidth monitor I can tell the WPAnegotiation doesn't make it drop the conectionSo that's it, lol.

it is a very similar problem to this except that i am using ubuntu for the machine with the two connections.
right now i have my wireless on the 192.168.1.* address space, while the LAN is to be on 192.168.5.*
note: my goal is not to share internet with my laptop, just be able to connect to it and the internet at the same time.
desktop: ubuntu 9.10 , wireless and LAN
laptop: windows xp, LAN only

On this box I have Two seperate Ubuntu installations. Recently in both I seem to be having the same problem. I initially can connect to the internet as per normal and use any internet application. But after a period of time, sometimes just minutes, sometimes hours, even though the icon says connected, I cant update pages or send emails etc because there is no actual connection. My Physical connection is good I know - My Ubuntu laptop and Windows gamming PC connect fine during this period. So
Does this suggest an intermittent hardware fault or is there some thing in Ubuntu I can check to make sure that it is setup correctly and nothing has been corrupted? I am a lay PC person - I dont really want to be command prompting - Plug & Play and Point & Click is my limit.

I've got a machine running Ubuntu Server that is on several VLANs. Each VLAN has its own subnet and the server has an address on each subnet. The switches are set to allow tagged traffic to the server for each VLAN that it is on. Switch ports ending with workstations are given untagged ports on whatever VLAN is appropriate. Workstations are given addresses on a subnet for each VLAN via DHCP. All this works great and hosts on any subnet/VLAN can access the server as normal via its address on that subnet/VLAN.
Accessing the machine by its address on a non-local subnet is where I run into a problem. Inter-subnet traffic has to go through a router, which has been set up appropriately. Running tcpdump on the server and pinging it from a workstation on a subnet, using its address on a different subnet, shows the server receives the ping, but sends no response:
Code:
sudo tcpdump -i vlan4 -n
tcpdump: verbose output suppressed, use -v or -vv for full protocol decode

I have a server with two ethernet ports. I configured eth0 to be static, set at 10.1.10.148. I plugged in another router into the other ethernet port in order to configure that router. I configured eth1 to use dhcp. Using /etc/network/interfaces rather than gnome network manager. When I did this, I lost internet connectivity (internet routes through eth0 of course)
- Why did I lose internet connectivity?
In order to recover internet activity, I had to disconnect the new router on eth1 of course, and do sudo ifdown eth1. That wasn't enough however. After rebooting numerous times and pulling out my hair, I finally tried configuring eth0 as dhcp, rather than static, and this fixed the problem.
- Why didn't sudo ifdown eth1 solve the problem? What information was saved between reboots that somehow remembered that I plugged in the new router? Because my thinking was if /etc/network/interfaces was identical, and the network topology was identical, after a reboot everything should be restored, but it wasn't.

I just installed Ubuntu 11.04 desktop on my desktop in dual boot with Windows 7.
Heres my problem, I am unable to connect to the Internet even though my wired Ethernet connection says it is connected normally. The wierd thing about this is that I also have a wireless card in my desktop and when I connect through that I am able to connect to the Internet. I am connecting to a router that is functioning as a repeater to my main router/cable modem. I have tried to solve this myself but am having no luck. Ironically, earlier today suddenly my ethernet connection worked for a few minutes without me modifying anything.
The output of some terminal commands are below.

I suffer enormously from net addiction (as well as gaming addiction and related behavioural maladies).I've had revelatory success in controlling my time online-and, in general, in front of a screen with unproductive applications- by locking my monitor's power cord into an Ems PowerCop (the key to which I keep at work). Writing and journaling, I do on an AlphaSmart Neo. However, I could really use a tool to allow me to edit and typeset my writing (and only those tasks).I'm considering buying an ultra-low cost net-book.I want a netbook because it's the cheapest way to keep the display power fully dependent and integrated with the machine---I can't have something that will allow a simple means of working around the Ems PowerCop. Also, since it lacks an optical disk drive (and since I'll be keeping my usb drives at work) there will not be an easy way to reinstall the operating system. However, before I buy anything, I need to know that, after installing/configuring all of my preferred settings for vim and La/Xetex, there is a way that I can cripple the netbook and all of its applications so that no internet access is possible.
The Cherrypal Africa can come with either Ubuntu, Debian, or its own Linux blend, Green Maraschino. If it ends up being either Ubuntu or Debian, what can I do that will irreversibly (at least, from a software level---a hardware level would probably require damaging the usb ports, which I don't want to do) disable its ability to try to communicate with the internet (including the software repositories)? I'm hoping for a particular system file that I can delete rather than the addition of a command somewhere that would be easy for me to undo when I'm bored out of my mind and want to see what Wikipedia has to say about the glycemic index.
