Ubuntu Networking :: Pavilion Dv6 Wireless - Can't Find Local Wireless Networks

Jun 11, 2011

For some reason, ubuntu cannot find local wireless networks. In fact, the Broadcom wireless card Ralink RT5390 802.11b/g/n seems to be incompatible with ubuntu. I've tried numerous 'solutions' on the Internet, but none of them seem to work on my computer. Tutorials I've visited have recommended downloading the b43 drivers from the Synaptic package manager and also the bcmwl-kernal-source package. Nevertheless, the wireless never turns on and Additional Drivers never shows anything at all. After several exasperating hours of trying to get my wireless running I've decided to turn to the forum for help. I'm sure there's probably more information I should supply, but I'm honestly not sure what that would be.

Ubuntu Networking :: Hp Pavilion Ze4900 Can't See Wireless Card With 9.10

Jul 3, 2010

I just installed Ubunto 9.10 on my HP Pavilion ZE9400 laptop (more specifically a ze4930us) that was formerly running Windoze XP. Right now, I'm using my Win 7 desktop machine. The problem with the laptop is that Linux can't connect to my wireless network. It seems that it can't see the wireless card. When I tap the button on the laptop case, a little blue light normally switches on and off to indicate whether the wireless card is enabled or not, but that light doesn't come on. I suppose I need a HP/Ubuntu driver. Any advice, links, etc?

BTW, I also went to the HP site to download a driver, but Linux isn't one of the OSs that they support and have no drivers.

Ubuntu Networking :: HP Pavilion Wireless Enable/Disable Button / "Wireless Disabled By Hardware Switch"?

May 11, 2011

I've had a host of problems since upgrading to 11.04 Natty Narwhal, so let's deal with these 1 at a time.

I've got a Hewlett-Packard Pavilion G60 laptop. Next to the power button is a handy wireless on/off button. This has always worked well with previous editions (9.04,through 10.10). first press toggles the wireless off, second press toggles it on.

Not so in 11.04. The toggle off works great, first time. But, it will not toggle back on. Not after any number of tries, not after restarting, not after booting into other OS's (9.10 and Vista) re-enabling it there and then booting back into Narwhal. to further complicate the issue, this feature bypass the network manager, so toggling the wireless off by the switch leaves me showing no wireless adapter in the network manager. I also restarted, switched from Unity to a Gnome session, but the issue still persists.

As my only network options are wireless, this has become a substantial inconvenience.
----
EDIT: so the network util is actually saying "wireless disabled by hardware switch". Also noticed it I enable it in 9.10, reboot to 11.04 (where I inevitably fail to re-enable it), then reboot into 9.10, it will initially be disabled. The key difference is in 9.10 I have the ability to enable wifi using the hardware button. It seems that 11.04 is remembering that wireless is disabled between boots. Is there a place it might be storing this value? If so, I may be able simply to set the value as enabled, since toggling that silly button isn't working.
-----
EDIT 2:
found this thread:"Wireless disabled by hardware switch" bug? - Natty
seems to be a similar issue. I'll be following how that one develops, too.

Ubuntu Networking :: Hp Pavilion Dm4-1173cl Wireless Connection Is Not Working?

Jan 22, 2011

I have just installed Maverick meekat on my new laptop with Wubi, and I have been trying to setup my wireless connection, but i couldnt. The first thing I tried was going to System>Prefrences>network connections, and clicking on the wireless tab. I tried to add a network think manyally, and I miserably failed.

here is the information I have of my laptop as of now after doing the lspci command in the terminal:

Network controller: Brodcom Corporation Device 4727
USB Controller: Intel Corporation 5 Series/3400 Series Chipset USB2 Enhanced Host Controller Ethernet controller: Realtek Semiconductor Co., Ltd.

Also I have read somethings about ndis or using the windows driver and things of that sort. Whenever I am using windows, my wireless connection is working perfectly. So I dont know if there is a specific way to activate my drivers, or if my computer is just not capable of having wireless connection on Ubuntu.

Ubuntu Networking :: Wireless Repeatedly Stops Working On HP Pavilion/Intel 4965AG/Karmic

Feb 9, 2010

My wireless LAN connection on this machine occasionally stops working. The network traffic bar shows periodic very small transmissions but the failure of all network dependent applications (Firefox, package manager, etc.) indicates to me that the machine is no longer talking to the net. I can fix it by reselecting my home network in nm-applet from the drop-down list. This causes the machine to disconect, reconnect and all is well for some random period of time thereafter. Here's some data:I'm running an HP Pavillion laptop.

Code:

~$ lspci | grep Wireless
02:00.0 Network controller: Intel Corporation PRO/Wireless 4965 AG or AGN [Kedron] Network Connection (rev 61)

Code:

~$ lsmod | grep iwl
iwlagn 124768 0
iwlcore 134820 1 iwlagn
mac80211 243496 2 iwlagn,iwlcore

[code]....

I don't know if this is related or not, but a couple of months ago I unsuccessfully attempted to share a hotel's wired Internet connection over my wireless card. I may have hosed some settings or it could be unrelated. The "unknown interface" portion of the restart attempt is interesting but I don't know enough to fix it.

Ubuntu :: Wireless Not Working On HP Pavilion DM4

Aug 23, 2010

I installed lucid lynx on my hp pavilion dm4 laptop, very happy with it. My wireless is not working though (I have ethernet working), I have looked for drivers for the Broadcom card that's supposed to pick it up, the light is orange. I have seen that many people have this problem, tried their solutions to no avail. I have ndiswrapper installed and have found some drivers that detect the hardware, still not getting wireless.

It's got a built-in wireless adapter, but we're not sure what kind of adapter it is. HP's Website is no help there. According to another site, it's an Intel WifiLink 5100. I did download the wireless driver from the HP site, but it's a .exe file. Anyone had any luck setting up this or a similar HP laptop. I couldn't find this model on the HCL/Laptops/HP - openSUSE page, but it seems OpenSUSE supports wireless other HP Pavilion models.

When I press the red LED touch button below the screen to turn it on, nothing happens. Also the LED that indicates that the wireless is on stays red and does not turn blue. Ubuntu Networking :: No Wireless After Latest Update?

Jan 9, 2010

Creating a new thread for the specific chipset. Laptop is an Acer 5534 with the Atheros chipset. Normally uses the Ath9k driver. To get it to work originally I had to download, compile and install the latest compat_wireless drivers. See post here: {URL] I did the update that came through today and after the reboot there was no wireless internet. It alternates between reboots between having no wireless networks at all detected to never connection to the [AUTO] network previously defined. To fix the problem, I downloaded the latest compat_wireless, compat-wireless-2009-12-11.tar.bz2, and followed the same procedure. I did not do a make clean. To solve the problem temporarily, I edited the grub config and set default to 2 instead of 0 (1 would be 0 in recovery mode).

Ubuntu Networking :: Wireless Won't Connect After Update

Jun 10, 2010

I've been running Ubuntu 10.04 x64 for about a week now, and it's been working flawlessly until today. This morning when attempting to connect to my wireless network, I click on the wireless icon (which currently has an ! next to it), find my network, and it begins to seem as if it is connecting, but then a pop-up comes up stating: "Wireless Network -- disconnected". No matter how many times I restart or attempt to connect to the network, it will not connect. I can see that the adapter is working, as it sees my network and others; however, it will not connect, it continually seems as if it's trying, then the pop-up comes up stating it has been disconnected. Ubuntu Networking :: Lost Wireless After Update

after giving me no problems whatsoever (currently 10.04 Lucid Lynx) I lost wireless connectivity on my laptop after the following updates were processed yesterday:

Commit Log for Sun Jun 12 16:18:28 2011
Upgraded the following packages:
dkms (2.1.1.2-2fakesync1) to 2.1.1.2-2ubuntu1
flashplugin-installer (10.3.181.14ubuntu0.10.04.1) to 10.3.181.22ubuntu0.10.04.1
flashplugin-nonfree (10.3.181.14ubuntu0.10.04.1) to 10.3.181.22ubuntu0.10.04.1

[Code].....

but as it all worked fine before and this was just an update not an upgrade I suppose drivers etc are all OK anyway.

Also, rfkill showed nothing was blocked to need unblocking, and ifconfig gives a permissions error

I have a wired connection operating without any problems at all.

Ubuntu Networking :: Wireless Stop Working After Update 10.04?

Dec 17, 2010

yesterday I let the update manager install a whole bunch of updates for my 10.04 install on my MSI Notebook ER710. My wireless was just working peachy until then (with the madwifi drivers), but after the update, no more... I checked the madwifi, tried a new make, but nothing worked.

So, after reading somewhere that 10.10 had less issues with wireless I decided to upgrade to 10.10 in the hope that that would solve my problem.

Well, partly it did, as in, according to my system I've got a wireless again and this morning even, it was able to see wireless networks! Unfortunately I couldn't connect to mine, although the key was correct. At some point I lost the ability to see wireless networks again. I tried wicd too, but no luck their either. It recognizes my card but can't see any networks.
