Ubuntu Networking :: Wireless Gone After System Update

Mar 22, 2010

I have installed xubuntu with wubi from XP. The installation was OK, I have booted the system several times with no problem, all devices worked well. After a day, auto update have shown that I have lots of packages to update. I said OK, let's do it. After a restart the wifi led was not lit anymore. I am unable to discover any wifi networks.. Fortunately I still have my old XP to write to the forum.. What can I do? The hardware: Compal CL56 notebook with Intel Pro 2200BG wifi. (and ATI Mobility Radeon 9700 - which will cause the next problems.?)

As the title says i updated my system which then needed a reboot. I also installed Mixxx djing software to try it out. So i thought id just restart the system. Usually when i boot into my desktop wireless automatically can connect to my router but not this time, wired only for now... i know theres tons of wireless issue threads but some more experienced users will be able to get straight to the point and run through some diagnostics with me.

Ubuntu Networking :: No Wireless After Latest Update?

Jan 9, 2010

Creating a new thread for the specific chipset. Laptop is an Acer 5534 with the Atheros chipset. Normally uses the Ath9k driver. To get it to work originally I had to download, compile and install the latest compat_wireless drivers. See post here: {URL] I did the update that came through today and after the reboot there was no wireless internet. It alternates between reboots between having no wireless networks at all detected to never connection to the [AUTO] network previously defined. To fix the problem, I downloaded the latest compat_wireless, compat-wireless-2009-12-11.tar.bz2, and followed the same procedure. I did not do a make clean. To solve the problem temporarily, I edited the grub config and set default to 2 instead of 0 (1 would be 0 in recovery mode).

Ubuntu Networking :: Wireless Won't Connect After Update

Jun 10, 2010

I've been running Ubuntu 10.04 x64 for about a week now, and it's been working flawlessly until today. This morning when attempting to connect to my wireless network, I click on the wireless icon (which currently has an ! next to it), find my network, and it begins to seem as if it is connecting, but then a pop-up comes up stating: "Wireless Network -- disconnected". No matter how many times I restart or attempt to connect to the network, it will not connect. I can see that the adapter is working, as it sees my network and others; however, it will not connect, it continually seems as if it's trying, then the pop-up comes up stating it has been disconnected. Here's my info:

Ubuntu Networking :: Lost Wireless After Update

Jun 13, 2011

after giving me no problems whatsoever (currently 10.04 Lucid Lynx) I lost wireless connectivity on my laptop after the following updates were processed yesterday:

Commit Log for Sun Jun 12 16:18:28 2011
Upgraded the following packages:
dkms (2.1.1.2-2fakesync1) to 2.1.1.2-2ubuntu1
flashplugin-installer (10.3.181.14ubuntu0.10.04.1) to 10.3.181.22ubuntu0.10.04.1
flashplugin-nonfree (10.3.181.14ubuntu0.10.04.1) to 10.3.181.22ubuntu0.10.04.1

[Code].....

but as it all worked fine before and this was just an update not an upgrade I suppose drivers etc are all OK anyway.

Also, rfkill showed nothing was blocked to need unblocking, and ifconfig gives a permissions error

I have a wired connection operating without any problems at all.

Ubuntu Networking :: Wireless Not Working After Hardy Update?

The proprietary drivers for my wireless network card have been downloaded and installed... remember, it worked well enough download the updates! Ubuntu Networking :: No Wireless/Ethernet After Partial Update

I am using an Intel WiFi Link 4965AGN built in adapter.

When I was prompted for a system-update I clicked Update and apparently something failed an only a partial-update happened. Now my wireless/Ethernet connections do not work. I tried enabling all Network Adapters but that option is no longer available in the "Preference/Administration" tab.

Note: I cannot access the internet at all on that partition so I can't download any updates from repositories.

Ubuntu Networking :: Wireless No Longer Autoconnects After Update?

10.04 was connecting to wireless on boot up without a problem. After updating, it can no longer do it. I have to click on the wireless icon (which has an exclamation mark through it) and connect to hidden. I can then choose my wireless profile and am asked for my elevated privileges password. Once supplied, the connection is made.I presume the encryption password is 'locked' now at boot.

Ubuntu Networking :: Wireless Stop Working After Update 10.04?

Dec 17, 2010

yesterday I let the update manager install a whole bunch of updates for my 10.04 install on my MSI Notebook ER710. My wireless was just working peachy until then (with the madwifi drivers), but after the update, no more... I checked the madwifi, tried a new make, but nothing worked.

So, after reading somewhere that 10.10 had less issues with wireless I decided to upgrade to 10.10 in the hope that that would solve my problem.

Well, partly it did, as in, according to my system I've got a wireless again and this morning even, it was able to see wireless networks! Unfortunately I couldn't connect to mine, although the key was correct. At some point I lost the ability to see wireless networks again. I tried wicd too, but no luck their either. It recognizes my card but can't see any networks.

here is all the info:

Machine Brand and Model (PC/Laptop): MSI ER710

After the update, the wireless network controller shows up as UNCLAIMED when I do lshw -C network. When I try to install the driver with the commands sudo modprobe lib80211 sudo insmod wl.ko

i get this error message: insmod: error inserting 'wl.ko': -1 Invalid module format

I have compiled the driver using the 2.6.32-24 kernel. Do I have to re-compile with the new kernel?I'm a unix user, but not a kernel hacker, so I'm wondering if I will run into problems every time I get a kernel update? Or is this problem an exception?

Ubuntu Networking :: Wireless Worked Before Update But Suddenly Stopped Working

Oct 14, 2010

I have an HP a670y desktop computer using the included wireless antenna (looks like a big Sorry game piece). I am running Ubuntu 10.04 x64 dual booted with Windows Vista x64. I haven't had internet for a while but just got it today and decided to do some updating in both Windows and Ubuntu. It had detected my router and I copied and pasted the WEP key then it asked for my password, but my keyboard wasn't connected so I clicked cancel for the password window and it connected anyway.

I opened the Synaptic package manager and started downloading some updates while I did some browsing on the internet. I had restarted my computer when the updates were done and it asked again for my WEP key. I copied and pasted just as I did before and entered my password and after it tried to connect it asked for my password again. I thought maybe the internet was down so I decided to boot up Windows and it connected right away. I wonder if one of my updates messed something up. Has anyone else had this happen?

Ubuntu Networking :: Wireless Adapter Not Working After Wlan.conf Update

Jan 19, 2011

I updated Ubuntu to 10.04 after which I noticed the wireless indicator lights on my HP laptop were continually flashing between blue and orange and network performance seemed slow. I did some searching and found and implemented the following change to stop the flashing:

gksudo gedit /etc/modprobe.d/wlan.conf

Copy and paste the below line:

options iwlcore led_mode=1

Since making this change the wireless connection is shut off and I can;t get it to work at all. I first tried simply to remove the change to get back wher I was, but I can;t do that. Can sopmebopdy toell me at least how to get rid of this wlan, conf file ( it was created by the above command) so I can start over?

Coincidentally since making this change my Windows Vista OS fails to start because of errors attributed to a software or hardware change, of which there were none other than the Ubuntu wlan.conf change. . It may be unrelated but I am suspicious of the coincidence. I am running Vista and Ubuntu in a dual boot configuration and all ha run very well until I did the Ubuntu wlan.conf change.

I am now attempting a complete recovery of my Vista system, since it seems irreparably broken. Again coincidence or not?
