I feel rather daft asking this but I can't find the option. I have gftp connected to a remote site and I want to edit a file. I click on the edit option and get an error that I must specify an editor in the options dialogue. I can't find the options dialogue can someone tell me where it is.
View 1 RepliesI can't seem to establish a conncction to my site (that I'm hosting in the same computer as the gFTP client- running Lucid Lynx desktop as a server). My site is 'out there', with a domain etc. and also I work on it with localhost. I wanted to use ftp as Joomla has a 'ftp layer' for files permissions etc. But it keeps saying that I can't connect, or the connection 'was reset by a peer' whatever that means. For 'hostname' I use site.com (site is my site's name) and even tried the whole thing like http://www.site.com (I clicke on 'connect to remote, and enter that in the url). or just put it where 'host' goes (when I'm not using localhost) For user name and pass, I just enter what I usually put to access the administrator's back panel in joomla, but maybe I am supposed to use what I use to log on to ubuntu when I start my computer? note sure. Anyway I used a telnet command in the terminal and found that port 21 was blocked. MY isp says they don't block any ports so I don't know. I was able to do this last year so I don't know what is so hard about this lol In the router, I have 'ftp 21 to 21 and ip address 192.168.1.100 (ip is the same for http which is working as I have my site up) now it seems to be open as I used a command at the terminal (found from google). It's open but my ftp still can't connect to my server either localhost or to my site. there is no firewall blocking it and I think my router is set right.

Below is the output from various commands.I included my service tag which you can use on the dell site to find specifics about my hardware.I can't do ifconfig wlan0 up which is the only solution I've found online so far.

I finally got it to install windows xp, but i really only want to put ubuntu on it (no need for windows on a net book)
Tried to create a data DVD the first time and another surprise. Very slow to write. On a dual boot system, it takes Windows 7 ten times less to do it. When i tried to folllow the ideeas from forums, i couldn't find Brasero in /apps/ with gconftool or gconf-editor. With Nautilus i get the same low speed.

I don't really care if it is GUI or console based, but it has to work properly, the curses-based ones that I've tried somehow manage to corrupt its own display by merely scrolling through the file being edited.
So, my question is, what is a good hex editor for GNU/Linux? If possible I'd gladly like to know both the name of a console based one and another GUI-based one.

View 2 Replies View RelatedThis maybe a simple noob question but it's niggling at me and I can't find an answer.For a change I thought I would pop on the forums and ask a question rather than just lurking about!I'm currently using gftp-text from the terminal to access my ftp but I'm wondering if I can change the command so I can type just "ftp" or "gftp" to use it rather than "gftp-text"? It's really not that hard to type either way and it's no biggie but I'm annoyed I can't figure it out how to do this for myself

View 6 Replies View RelatedThis may be a noob question, but I can't find the option to set the computer to hibernate after a given idle time. In the Power options there is an option to suspend, but not to hibernate.
Is there other way to set the hibernation time?
I am using ubuntu 10.4 and cannot find add/remove programs in applications at all, it just isn't listed there. Is there anyway for me to download it. I've looked in software centre and cannot see it.

I thought it was supposed to give me the choice to make a fresh install or upgrade, but there is no such thing that I can find. I have looked on the Opera Downloads page and on the Synaptic package manager page. Neither of them give me the option to upgrade, only a new install. I would like to keep my old preferences, passwords, etc. I need to upgrade to fix the problems with unresponsive flash players (....., etc.)

View 1 Replies View RelatedOn windows I really only used Notepad++ as my text editor, it had two features that I loved.What I need to accomplish is what I would do with Notepad++ column editor.I could have like 100 lines, and place the cursor at a column, and goto edit>column editor, and I could insert an incrementing number. (I could also pad the incrementing number with 0s, this was GREAT for making batch files among other things.)So each line at that column had a number higher than the previous line.The other feature that I used sometimes was a search/replace with regex patterns.Does anyone know of an editor that has those features for linux? I am mostly after the column editor insert feature but if you know of one with both features that would rock.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI have upgraded to 10.10 from 10.04, a a200 laptop, real old desktop (Pentium 4 with sdram), and did a complete install on a I5 with 4G of ram without any problems at all. However I could not find the "software source" option that was under Administration in 10.04 and earlier. I am in Australia and getting all of the updates from the main U.S. based server is a really slow. I used the optus server before and got much quicker updates. Is there a choose server option in 10.10 that I missed?

View 5 Replies View RelatedOn F11 I very often used gftp. Now, after upgrading from F11 to F12 gftp gives the message that it needs libcrypto.so.8. When I try to install it by using yum, there's no such package available. Also, I find that I'm not the only one having this problem. Anyone an idea on how to solve this?

It says it uses this command "ssh -e none -l wordpress -p 1883 IPADDRESS -s sftp." Is this more or less secure then using ftpes or ftps? What I thought was weird was that I could shutdown vsftpd and still connect. Does SSH2 SFTP use its own ftp server?

View 3 Replies View RelatedI am trying to automate an svnadmin dump command for a backup script, and I want to do something like this:
find /var/svn/* ( ! -name dir -prune ) -type d -exec svnadmin dump {} > {}.svn ;
This seems to work, in that it looks through each svn repository in /var/svn, and runs svnadmin dump on it.
However, the second {} in the exec command doesn't get substituted for the name of the directory being processed. It basically just results a single file named {}.svn.
I suspect that this is because the shell interprets > to end the find command, and it tries redirecting stdout from that command to the file named {}.svn.
