Ubuntu Multimedia :: Can't Find Any Option On Sound Preference Menu?
Jul 3, 2010
I am using 9.10(64bit). I want to add custom .wav sound as system sound theme.i.e when i close a program ubuntu will play a sound(custom). I can't find any option on sound preference menu. I searched in google but failed to find any useful post.
I'm running OpenSuSE 11.1 with the KDE interface and GnuCash 2.2.7. The GnuCash manual, version 2.0 (the latest, apparently) says:
GnuCash, as a Gnome application, also allows you to define your own menu shortcuts. To define a shortcut, first go to the "Menu and Toolbar" preference panel and select the "Editable menu accelerators" check box. Then return to GnuCash, click on the menu header and move the mouse pointer over the menu item. While the menu item is highlighted, press a key or key combination to set the shortcut. You should now see your shortcut choice next to the item in the menu. To delete a shortcut, press the Delete key while the menu item is highlighted. Be careful when setting shortcuts as Gnome does no checking on the key values pressed, and you can easily do things like set a letter of the alphabet as your shortcut.
But I can't find the Menu and Toolbar preference panel. There's a Preferences section in the Edit menu, but that has nothing I can see about shortcuts. So how do I set shortcuts, or even see a list of shortcuts that are already there?
i can not find login window preference in ma admin. section. There is login screen option but not the later. I want 2 change my login screen but as a result i cant
I have an asus G73 JW laptop and when I look at all the profiles under material tab, there is not one that includes the .1 of the subwoofer, I have stereo, 4.0 surround but no .1 .... When I play music no boom boom comes out of the sub...
I have to use alsa for audio to work under wine (otherwise pulseaudio starts eating up processor cycles and the audio comes out horrible and distorted), but I have been unable to use the mic. The mic boost is up on the alsa mixer, and they are not muted. I cannot find any options under my system menu for Sound Preferences (which seems to get references in a lot fo help forums), or anywhere else to determine which audio driver the line in on the front uses.
I'm using an Acer laptop from a couple years ago, so support should be no problem.
My USB sound card used to work perfectly, but after i unplugged it, there seems to be a problem. When it is unplugged it is in the multimedia device preference list, but it is greyed out. When i plug the sound card in, nothing happens to the greyed entry, instead a new device shows up with the same name.
When press test on the new entry, it works fine, but it's like pulseaudio dosn't recognize the USB sound card, and the sound just comes out of the internal speakers. Also, if i move the new entry up in the list, it has none effect at all. Sound still comes out of the internal speaker. Does anyone know how i can fix this?
I recently updated my computer Using 9.10 and I updated on the 14th. Before the update my sound was working great. No problems, but afterwards my sound is completely gone and under hardware when I click the sound option on the speaker icon I get nothing listed under hardware.
I am using the HP DV2810 US notebook PC. With this being listed as the audio device.
I will also list the updates from my synaptic history. I'm having to use Win7 . And i only wanted that for the few games that one run well in wine.
I installed Ubuntu 9.10 and my sound does not work. Whenever I go to the Sound page and the Hardware tab to try switching from HDMI to Analog Stereo Duplex, whenever I select it and close the sound page, it never saves the switch. Whenever I open it again, the audio is right back to HDMI again. I don't see any "Apply Change" button or anything
I was consulted to find those "preference for encryption" in system or "accessoires" in applicaton to change the password for network. but I don't have them both in the menu. I am totally blocked with different passwords for the session and the network.
I just installed Ubuntu Lucid beta 2 on my desktop, and I can't seem to get the sound to work. I have a Soundblaster Audigy 2 card and the motherboard has built-in sound, but ubuntu doesn't recognize either of them. The only hardware option I have in my sound preferences is for SPDIF, and thats the only thing that shows up in alsamixer as well.
I was playing with Banshee and installed the banshee-extension-soundmenu package to get the Banshee control in the Indicator Applet Sound Menu.
I had so many problems with Banshee crashing and using up my system resources that I decided to stop using it. I deselected the Sound Menu option from Banshee's Preferences>Extensions, then I uninstalled the banshee-extension-soundmenu package.
However after this the Sound Menu is still showing the Banshee control. Is there a way to get rid of it?
Rhythmbox now shows up in the sound indicator menu and this has doesn't close if music is playing. I don't really use Rhythmbox to play music so I leave it on mute, butI do use it to manage my iPod and it not closing has caused me nothing but problems. I've looked and looked and cannot find a way to turn it off. Is there any solution to this?
After cheering the Ubuntu Developers team on the great work they did with hardware recognition, I was suddenly stunned by the silence from my USB speakers this afternoon. Although previously correctly recognized and fully functional, after installing several non- audio updates, the sound from my USB speakers ceased. Moreover, this pair of Logitech Z-5 USB speakers aren't even listed on the Sound menu (System > Preferences > Sound) although lsusb lists them correctly. I have an embedded sound adapter to which no speakers are connected. My PC runs on Ubuntu 10.04. What should I do to get the sound through my USB speakers?
I have accidentally deleted the soundmenu in the panel that comes with the new ubuntu 10.10. After going through various posts all I can see, is that the solutions provided only provide the applet for sound control and does not have any integration with any of the music players (in my case Rhythmbox).I really want that menu back as it made listening to music while using multiple desktops very easy.
I have a HP Pavilion dv7 laptop. Can you please tell me how can I find the right driver for my sound card? When I play a mp3 via vlc in ubuntu 9.10, there is sound, but the quality is bad. And I play the same on Windows7. It plays fine.
I am looking to get a sound card to put in my HTPC that is running Ubuntu 10.04. I bought Auzentech x-plosion sound card that has spdif support but it does not work. Does anyone know of any card that will work or am I out of luck??

Thi sused to work on 11.1 but since installing 11.2 it has failed. Whenever I start sound-juicer it reports that it cannot find a CD -- there is actually a CD and a DVD. This is the case as a user or as root. I can read a CD with cdparanoa and also grip, but the metadata fron s-j is better as far as I can tell.
Iam pretty new to Linux.I installed fedora 10 on my pc recently.I wanted to add a program to the startup menu but I cant find Preferences menu in the Settings menu. Iam writing to this form after a lot of googling.Hope I can find some answer here
I have Windows XP as well as Ubuntu in my desktop. I would like to temporarily disable XP for a month or so, so that One cannot see Windows XP appearing in the grub menu list or during the boot. Is there is any option to edit the grub menu?
I've had two students report a problem whereby Ubuntu does not show up as a menu option in Grub. Both systems used Wubi installations of Ubuntu 10.04 Desktop for x86 on Windows XP. In both cases, Ubuntu completed the installation process. Upon reboot, we have the options to choose between Windows XP and Ubuntu. However, once we enter into Grub, only the Windows XP option shows.
i have a dual boot. i loaded 9.1 on one disk and windows xp is on another. grub worked fine. i downloaded 10.4 and i must have selected the wrong option cause when i restarted it dropped me into a shell. i reloaded 9.1 and wiped out 10.4. again i must have selected the wrong option cause i get the grub menu with an option for windows but nothing happens. 9.1 comes up alright and i can select windows office files from ubuntu.
I installed Ubuntu onto a separate partition I have. Now however when i boot up, Grub (v1.98 ) gives m 5 options.
Ubuntu, with Linux 2.6.35-22-generic Ubuntu, with Linux 2.6.35-22-generic (recovery) Memory Test (memtest86+) Memory Test (memtest86+, serial console) Windows Recovery Environment (loader) With no Vista option.
When I run the recovery environment however, it runs just my regular vista boot would have. Is this just a name issue? Ideally I would like to have my Vista option back.
I increasingly use Ubuntu so swapped SATA ports 1&2 around so now 7 boots from BIOS F11 pop out menu. Windows did not complain so far but hibernate is missing from Ubuntu's power down options. I installed Ubuntu Tweak, but cannot see an option to re-enable. Is this something to do with the swapped HDDs &/or the swap partition? Or more likely a recent update?
