Ubuntu Networking :: Connecting With Motion Controller?
Jun 9, 2010
I'm having a problem connecting a motion controller through the Ethernet port. Here is what it does If I connect the Ethernet cable from the computer to the controller, the connection is not recognized. If I connect it from the computer to my router, it will connect automatically. If the computer is connected to the router, and I unplug the router and quickly connect the controller, it will automatically recognize it.Also, when I connect the controller with quickly unplugging the router, I can't manually connect it using the wired connection "Auto eth 2". When I click on it, it thinks for a while and then says Wired Network Disconnected.
Is there a way to initialize the Ethernet port automatically to recognize the motion controller, or is there a way to do it using C++ (that is what I'm suing to communicate to the card since it has special libraries) I find this kind of weird. I want to just be able to plug in the controller and be able to use it.
At the school i work in i have a server2k3 server that provides a domain to all the windows clients, aswell as a fedora server that acts as an imaging machine and webserver.
Im rather concious of the fact that if for any reason the Server2k3 server was to die there is no backup of active directory, or anything that can take its place whilst a replacement is found.
So is it possible to use a fedora machine with samba as a secondary domain controller? so it can be used as a login server, and has a copy of AD.
I just installed Ubuntu 9.10 and its great. However when I connect to the internet at home it shows that the connection has been established but I still cant connect to the internet. My flatmates are all able to connect. However, I am able to connect from work both wirelessly and through an ethernet cable.
Basically i want it so that the analogue stick on my PS2 controller, which connects via a USB adaptor and is recognized, correctly controls in game characters. It seems to work fine enough in platformers, at least it does with Banjo Kazooie, but with games like perfect Dark it seem to be trying to move forward and look down at the same time, also backward and look up simultaneously and look sideways and move sideways simultaneously , rendering the game all but unplayable.
I have tried running jscal and, apart from the fact that it seems a bit beyond me, it reports "jscal: missing devicename" when i try to run "jscal -c". Do others out there have there analogue sticks working correctly with games like Perfect Dark, or the James Bond games, for example?
I can not get the node or cloud controllers to startup using the init.d scripts. I have a fresh install of CentOS 5.4 with Eucalyptus 1.6.2 I have compiled Eucalyptus and all packages using the RPM supplied from Eucalyptus and utilizing yum installer. I do not currently have any processes or applications listening currently on the ports on the boxes as well. I think it may be a permissions issue or something because I get a "permission denied error", but I am not sure if it is Eucalyptus or CentOS. It looks as if it is not binding to the address on the interface of the NIC. It may be something else however. I have the Node controller, Cloud controller, and Cluster controller on seperate physical boxes. When I try to run either the cloud controller or the node controller I get this message:
Cloud Controller:
[root@cluster-cont ~]# /etc/init.d/eucalyptus-cc start Starting Eucalyptus cluster controller: (13)Permission denied: make_sock: could not bind to address [::]:8774 (13)Permission denied: make_sock: could not bind to address 0.0.0.0:8774
I've just begun with a fresh USB install of Ubuntu 11.04, and have run into the seemingly standard wireless network issue with the Broadcom 4311. I've read countless posts on this forum, and have installed the STA driver "proprietary..." through the GUI driver installer.
The usual symptoms seem to persist; I can connect to the network using my wired connection, but when I unplug no wireless network connections kick in, or show up, or seem to be responsive anywhere..Also, I should note that I've read the forum post HERE but without much further understanding or resolution.
I just installed the latest version of Mint xfce on my old inspiron 8000 with a microsoft MN-120 pci ethernet card, and though the card shows up as hardware, it is not recognized as a network interface. I believe there is no driver loaded for it.
It's an old card, but it seems the kernel still supports it. There are instructions for activating the dc driver that appears to be the proper driver for this chip set, but those instructions originated from freebsd and I'm not sure they translate well. See here:[URL]
I did find a kernel config file, but I was afraid to add the suggested lines to it because there were no other lines specifying "devices". They all started with "config".
I have up to 300 PC in Ministry of Higher Education, I want to use UBUNUT server and UBUNUT Desktop for my network, But I am really not so familiar with UBUNUT Server just a little bit, finally here is my questions: Can I do these roles 1- Domain Controller. 2- User Accounts. 3- File Sharing. 4- Web Server. 5- Print Server. 6- Internet Sharing. 7- Web Chaching. 8- web proxy. 9- Firewall.
I'm using Ubuntu Server 10.10 64 bit and am trying to get my Atheros AR81xx gigabit ethernet controller to use 1 gbps.I have 2 ethernet controllers, one's a linksys 100 mbps (which is connected to the router which goes to the internet) and the other is the Atheros gigabit controller that is connected to a Windows desktop that has an NVIDIA gigabit ethernet controller (for faster file transfers with a gigabit connection) I've ruled out that the problem is with the desktop as I plugged the windows PC into my macbook (which has a gigabit controller), and both the macbook and desktop report a gigabit connection.
I plug the windows desktop into the server and I only get 100 mbps. I am using a Cat 6 patch cable. I've tried several methods with ethtool to force it into 1 gbps mode, but none work. I've tried using a different cable. no change. I've tried making windows force a 1 gbps connection, didn't have the option to in the driver configuration. Only 10/100 configs. the commands I've tried in ethtool
Code:
ethtool -s eth0 speed 1000
Reports no error, but no effect. I've tried forcing off auto negotiation (I had a hunch it was causing the problem)
Code:
ethtool -s eth0 speed 1000 duplex full autoneg off
I get this
Code:
Cannot set new settings: Invalid argument not setting speed not setting duplex not setting autoneg
I tried each setting individually, and autoneg won't set, the others will (but not do anything)
I use Linux Mint Debian XFCE and there was a large update (lots of programs) I have done prior to rebooting. After reboot, my computer can now no longer find the ethernet controller anymore in lspci, so my wired connection no longer works.
Is this a hardware issue? The green lights are all blinking fine though.
I have a Fedora Box with chillispot loaded for a captive protal wifi network. I am needing my office lan to connect to a controller on the WIFI network. I have tried many different firewall rules and have only momentarly able to ping something on the other network. here's some configuration info and my firewall rules that I thought should work.
FC 4 ETH0 - WAN (office lan 192.168.24.201/24) ETH1 - LAN (brought up as 192.168.10.1/24) tun0 - chilli 192.168.240.1
I have a Dell XPS M1330. I installed Fedora 10 on a separate partition and left Vista on the first. It was working just fine and for some reason all of the sudden it is not recognizing the Wireless controller. Vista is still working fine although I did get a couple of "WLAN controller has stopped working" errors. I suspect I may have a physical problem with the controller but I'm confused as to why Vista is still using it but Linux is not. The actual physicall "WIFI" light on the laptop does not even illuminate when I boot Linux. No wireless networks appear in the network list under Linux. Particularly since it WAS working fine for months...
i am having issues with networking on a certain liveCD.all ubuntu installs ive done on this machine im sure work fine, but i may have had issues with older backtrack versions. My issue is no networking on boot of SamuraiWTF, for those unfamiliar its based on ubuntu 9.04 There is nothing except lo loopback when i run 'ifconfig', and there is nothing in /etc/network/interfaces for eth0 either.
lspci shows a Broadcom driver, but the same command shows the model number etc on a newer ubuntu install on the same machine. This is:
Broadcom NetLink BCM57780
I have the latest .tar.gz of the tg3 drivers suggested by Broadcom, but im lost on how to install them.
------------------------------------------------------- EDIT: it seems to be an issue with earlier kernels, i installed 2.6.35 and it worked but the kernel isnt mean for 9.04 i dont think, and now theres issues with the nvidia card
i can handle basics but once i get into coding it confuses me. i downloaded motion and webcam-server onto my other computer on the local network, but all i really want to do is access a live feed from my main box and be able to record a video if need be, for security purposes (we had a break-in awhile back). after starting motion, it saved a few .jpgs to the tmp folder, then i shut it down and restarted it as a test, now it's not even doing that, i'll post the readout of what it spat out in a minute. how do i (1) disable the .jpg saving feature, (2) enable video recording, (3) run it in the background (as a daemon?) without the terminal window being visible onscreen, and (4) access it on the main box? also, i couldn't seem to edit the motion.conf file even though i'm an administrator.
I have installed this but it is command line and i don't know how to quit the thing. Motion is command line. It keeps capturing unless i shutdown the computer. Very frustrating. I also would like help to understand how to configure Motion if someone can fill in the information gaps on this website http://www.chriswpage.com/2009/05/se...04-and-motion/ I have also tried zoneminder but it does not want to run for some reason. I have gone to the zoneminder forum and asked but i don't seem to get very far. They got me to download a zoneminder/ubuntu live cd. I used that but it wasn't seeing the camera. Whereas on the distro i have right now cheese, kamoso so see it. I can live stream with Motion within firefox but i need the motion capturing part configured and without something that will quit Motion the app it's a bit useless. Would appreciate some advice as i have been struggling a long time trying to get this security thing happening
I recently installed Ubuntu 9.10 on an old family laptop. It is a Compaq Presario V2000. Everything works perfectly except no wireless networks are recognized, even though I know there are available networks. My network controller is detected but is not doing it's job, which is finding available wireless networks! Using "system testing" I found this out about my network controller:
"Detecting your network controller(s):
Realtek Semiconductor Co., Ltd. RTL-8139/8139C/8139C+ (rev 10) Broadcom Corporation BCM4318 [AirForce One 54g] 802.11g Wireless LAN Controller (rev 02)"
I patched my wireless driver in order to support packet injection. Using this tutorial:
- Install the Firmware:
Code:
- Create new directory:
Code:
- Now disconnect Internet and unload all your driver (use rmmod command)
- Move/copy the Compat-Wireless patched in /usr/src/drivers directory and unpack the drivers:
Code:
Blacklist the wl driver: (STA driver)
Code:
Currently I'm running Ubuntu 10.10, Kernel 2.5.35-29-generic. I have a Broadcom 4318 for my WLAN and a Broadcom 4401-B0 for my ethernet. I followed the tutorial and I managed to get packet injection working on my WLAN; however, my ethernet connection isn't working. I tried sudo modeprobe b44, but I get the following message:
I am successfully using Lucid with either motion or cheese and a Logitech web cam. Is there either: a) A way to use cheese and motion at the same time, or b) An application that shows a live image and will record when the image changes?
I have just installed Ubuntu 10.10 on a pc as a duel boot, On the computer I use a belkin surf and share n speed controller to connect wireless ( pc doesn't have a wireless connection) I have found the correct driver RLT8192SU from realtek and unzipped it and moved the contents to a flash drive. The problem is I am a total noob to Linux based systems and i have no ideal how to install the contents, there is a read me file but it makes no sense to me and i have absolutely no clue how to install the driver so i have no internet. Is there an easier way to install or step by step instructions?
I installed the 64-bit version of Fedora 12 on my MacBookPro5,1, and I am unable to establish a connection to my wireless network, which I can connect to fine with I boot the computer into Mac OS X. Here is my operating system information:
Code:
$ uname -a Linux tosh 2.6.31.12-174.2.3.fc12.x86_64 #1 SMP Mon Jan 18 19:52:07 UTC 2010 x86_64 x86_64 x86_64 GNU/Linux
Here is information about the PCI devices available on the system:
How do I change the motion.conf to get the program from taking several snapshots? It just keeps running on and on snapping pics. Also, how do I get the program to record video whenever it detects motion?
Is the motion compensation deinterlacer missing in Ubuntu's Version of Mencoder?
mencoder -vf help doesn't show it (I guess this means it's not installed...), although mencoder's man pages do have an mcdeint entry.
I have those versions installed:
Code:
I first tried the Versions shipped with Ubuntu Lucid Lynx, then I installed them from the Medibuntu repositories. Both without any success. Does anyone know, how to enable mcdeint support? Is there a repository or something I could add to my sources?
I have a Sony Vaio VGN-SZ740 laptop with ubuntu 10.04. Unfortunately the motion eye webcam in not working. When I type lsusb in the terminal, it gives the following message:
have tried changing the config file to this:target_dir ftp://user:pass@mysite.com:21/public_html/dirbut motion returns errors. want to be able to put mysite.com/dir/stream.flv into a browser and get the stream that would normally show up on my hardrive.I have also tried the wput on_photo_save, but it tells me that I have to many connections from my machines, and I don't want to have to have a frame rate of 2 per minute.
