Oct 10, 2010I just installed Lucid Lynx Ubuntu on my computer. I love it, but I do not see how to configure my dial-up modem and connect. I'm hoping it's still possible. Here's my hardware.

Oct 25, 2009I have a dell wireless wlan 1397 mini card with an ethernet 802.3. Now I am trying to connect by a wired connection. Supposedly a have a bcm5784m nic. I have tried to configue the bcm5784m which was shown it to be regonized through fedora 11, i could activate it, and connection still failed. In my driver list on my dell inspiron and studio 1737 the bcm5784m was not checked as a download i needed. What in the hell am I doing wrong. I have searched exhaustively and have found nothing concerning the wire ethernet card or bcm. Supposidly ubuntu does support the dell studio 1737 laptopForgive my spelling. Oh and by the way I am using kubuntu 9.04 jaunty.

Jan 30, 2011As i describe the thread,i won't be able to configure my NIC to connect to internet which is basically done by just running system-config-network in shell to configure xDSL connection.But instead of system-config-network it contains system-config-network-tui which is used for ISDN connection.And after running system-config-network as well as system-config-network-tui it shows the same output which is in attach file
After some google search it shows that there is bug with system-config-network and it is fixed in system-config-network-1.6.0.el6.2-1.el6 but i wont be able to find it.

Feb 1, 2010On this box I have Two seperate Ubuntu installations. Recently in both I seem to be having the same problem. I initially can connect to the internet as per normal and use any internet application. But after a period of time, sometimes just minutes, sometimes hours, even though the icon says connected, I cant update pages or send emails etc because there is no actual connection. My Physical connection is good I know - My Ubuntu laptop and Windows gamming PC connect fine during this period. So
Does this suggest an intermittent hardware fault or is there some thing in Ubuntu I can check to make sure that it is setup correctly and nothing has been corrupted? I am a lay PC person - I dont really want to be command prompting - Plug & Play and Point & Click is my limit.

When I try the 2 arrows on the up-right corner the option for wireless is deemed. I tried offline/online, that did not work either. when I click the firefox It says you are not connected.

Apr 6, 2011I am trying to setup a dhcp server for my internal network. I have two NICs, a modem, and a wireless router. I have my server connected directly to my modem which is providing me with Internet access on eth1 and is working fine. I have dhcp and dns setup on eth0 which is connected to my router. The router shows that it is connected to the Internet but when the router gives a client computer an IP address, the client is unable to connect to the Internet but can connect to the router. I will post my configuration files below with my current configuration.

Aug 15, 2010I had put my computer on standby and when i restarted it, it powered off within a few seconds. I turned it back on and after that i've lost connectivity to internet on Ubuntu 10.04.
However I have VMware (XP) installed and internet/network works on that. I'm a newbie with Linux.

I have tried to edit the connection using System>Preferences>Network Connections. I entered manual settings for IPV4, but whatever i enter there, it doesnt get reflected when i type ifconfig in the terminal window. I tried setting it to Automatic DHCP as well. Doesnt work.

Dec 23, 2010I have an Acer Aspire 5740 with a synaptics touchpad. I have tried using the ksynaptics program as well as the touchpad settings under System Settings >> Computer Administration. My touchpad works, but it is driving me crazy with how sensitive the tap to click feature is. I want to disable it altogether so I can actually work on my computer. When I go to the touchpad section in System Settings >> Computer Administration >> Keyboard & Mouse, the tab says "Warning: Touchpad configuration is not supported on this system. The synaptics driver is either not loaded or too old. Refer to doumentation for information about the required driver version."

Today i was trying to view a website from germany which i wanted to read in english using translator but had trouble viewing each page anyway i see an option to i think download google toolbar or was it browser anyway since then when i go to my desktop and click on my browser button i can get on the net now.
I dont know what i have done or how to fix this,i thought i had downloaded google toolbar which im sure have used before on the computer but i just cant get on the net now,even though my wirelss conection says its. i get the message firefox is already running but is not responding.to open a new window you must first close the existing firefox process or restart your system. i have tried restart,switching it off etc and still cant get it to work,what should i do or how do i get this working again

Networking :: Kubuntu - Can't Connect To The Internet But Can Connect To The LAN
Nov 12, 2009I've recently set up a local development webserver using Karmic Koala. I downloaded and installed the server version of Kubuntu and have the web server working.
The problem is that for some reason, I'm no longer able to connect to the internet. I can connect to my router, and other machines in my network can VNC into the server.
I'm using an wired connection to the router and have the server set up on an internal IP of 192.168.0.100. I used to be able to connect to the internet, I downloaded and installed a load of packages etc before it stopped working.
The last thing I remember doing before it stopped working was that I installed Samba so I could share files with the other machines on the network (two Macs running Leopard and a WinXP laptop).
I got the share working - I copied a load of files to the server via the share, rebooted, and for some reason now I can't connect to the net (and other machines can't see the Samba share either.) However I can still VNC into the server.

Dec 13, 2010I'd like to know how to configure Fedora 14 so my VPN connects and reconnects itself automatically, since the "connect automatically" thing I checked in the network manager doesn't work.Is there a way to make sure that everything uses the VPN, so when for some reason the VPN is disconnected the applications will wait for the VPN to reconnect itself instead of switching to the regular network ?Also since it's pptp VPN I tried to disable Ipv6 but I don't know how to check if I successfully did it, can you guys give me the command line to check that ?
