Ubuntu Networking :: Wrong Pointing - Picking Up The FIOS Login And Not Even The Index Of Server

Feb 11, 2011

I recently installed Linux Mint and went through the whole business, but when I go to my DNS's it just goes to my FIOS login.

dns:
foxwebhosting.dyndns.org
foxwebhosting2.dyndns.org

I tried everything in mind, but I think the big issue has to do with the reason why it's picking up the FIOS login and not even the index of my server.

Server :: Is Server Pointing To Wrong Root Document?

Mar 7, 2010

I'm not exactly new to the linux world. I've been messing with it for six months now. I recently decided to host a public web server out of my home. The is nothing business related merely personal. Now that you have a brief background I will bring you the technical details.I'm apache2 with php, joomla, and mySQL on openSUSE 11.2. a dns server is currently configured. My problem is as follows I set up apache initially and used the default index.html page which simply says It Works. I configured my DNS at the domain registar godaddy.com. After changing the A record to point to my IP the server worked. I then proceeded to install Joomla which installed correctly. Now here is my problem. When I attempt to pull up my domain it appears my DNS is longer working properly and get a DNS error. When I attempt to go directly to IP with my server I still get the initial index.html that says it works. I'm not sure how this is possible and I have cleared all dns info, temp files cookies ect.... I have also had other people test this is as well. I've check my root document pointers for the apache website and they all point to the correct location.

My set up is as follows

Modem
Router
Windows 7 Machine
Sun Microsystems Virtual Box with openSUSE with the network adapter bridged so it can obtain an IP from my router

I'm completely lost at this point and have spent 2 days trying to resolve the issue, any help would be much appreciated. I look forward to everyones reply.

Red Hat / Fedora :: Grub Pointing To Wrong Kernel

Aug 7, 2010

My distro is ClearOS, which is RHEL so I assume this is the right place.I moved my sytem from an old PATA-drive to a bigger SATA. ClearOS uses LVM for the root directory and the swap directory, so this VolumeGroup was moved using lv-commands. I left the old hda drive in for the time being and hda also remained the BIOS start up disk. /boot is at hda2.Now, clearly there are 2 VolGroup00/ LogVol00 's: on hda and sda.

Eventually I wanted to unload my hda. I copied /boot from the hda disk to sda, changed (hd0,1) to (hd0,0) as /boot is in different locations, later found out that I needed to do the same for the location of the splash image and did that as well, but I don't get access to my new VolGroup.I did an /sbin/mkinitrd and a grub-install on the new sda but no luck. I have seen various error messages. The latter one is that grub loader 1.5 is active, giving me a grub prompt.

CentOS 5 :: Command Pointing To Wrong Location?

Aug 4, 2009

I am very new to linux and just need a bit of help figuring this one out. I installed ImageMagick the first time using yum, then I used an alternative method. It's installed properly the second time and almost does what I want except that when I type 'convert' in the prompt it gives me '-bash: /usr/bin/convert: No such file or directory'

The actual location of convert is /usr/local/bin/convert How do I change it so the convert command is pointing to the right executable?

Ubuntu Networking :: About Several Domains Pointing At One Server?

Feb 27, 2011

I'll post an scenario and hopefully you can help me understand the concept and put me in the right track and do what I intend, if possible. Let's say I have a dedicated server with 2 static IPs each with an associated domain, let's call them www.site1.com and www.site2.com. Now, apache is running on it, I'd like to redirect anyone coming from site1.com to /home/site1/public_html and anyone coming from site2.com to /home/site2/public_html.In short, apache serving 2 entire roots depending on the accessed IP/domain. Whether the sites root are in the same parent folder, such as /home/site/site1_public_html and /home/site/site2_public_html or like above doesn't really matter, as long as it works.Additionally, do something similar with Postfix, so that I can have it running imap/smtp for foobar@site1.com and foobar@site2.com on the same server. At this moment, both apache and postfix are working, and we host only www.site1.com with the respective foobar@site1.com. But I'm not sure how to proceed or even if it's possible to achieve the above solution.

Ubuntu Networking :: Cannot Connect To FiOS Router

Sep 5, 2010

I recently just upgraded my operating system to Ubuntu 10.04 LTS and I can't seem to get my wireless card to connect to our new Verizon Actiontec router. I am using an Encore Electronics 802.11n Wireless USB Adapter (model: ENUWI-N), which had worked with an earlier version of Ubuntu and our old router. The adapter recognizes the SSID of the new router but will not connect with the correct WEP key or even with the encryption turned off. I have tried deleting the wireless profiles and manually re-creating them and still no dice. I have also gone to the website of the chipset manufacturer and found the latest drivers (RT2870USB(RT2870/RT2770)) for the adapter, which, according to the Synaptic Package Manager, I do not currently have installed.

Where do I go from here? Do I need to install the new drivers, and if so how do I do that?

Networking :: Kubuntu 9.04 Wired Cannot Connect To FIOS?

Aug 2, 2010

Can't connect to FIOS when wired

New to Linux/Ubuntu, I have searched and tried a number of suggested solutions posted here and on other Ubuntu forums. My son received a computer with Xubuntu 9.04 already installed. We first tried a wireless adapter for internet connection, but got no results so I have run a cable directly to the Verizon Router 9100EM, but it connected to [URL] and then disconnected. As I said, I tried a few things and now cannot get even an initial connection.

using ifconfig, this is the result:

Networking :: Hostname Appearing On FiOS Actiontec Router

Jul 22, 2010

On my network right now I have Ubuntu, Fedora, Debian, and Linux Mint computers. I got tired of getting my IP addresses scrambled every time I reset my router (which is the first thing the techs make you do if something isn't working). So yesterday I setup my computers with static IP addresses (from the computer side instead of the router side). Each of my computers has a unique name (happens to be mario-themed). If I use hostname, I get the proper name:

Code:
[-@supermario ~]$ hostname
supermario.mushroomkingdom
[- @supermario ~]$ hostname -s
supermario

But on the router, only the Linux Mint system appears with a name. All the rest of the systems appear as their IP address. What can I do to make them send their hostname over to the router? What is Linux Mint doing differently?

Ubuntu Networking :: Why Isn't 9.10 Picking Up My Wireless Signal?

Jan 25, 2010

I installed WICD because I was looking around the internet and the Ubuntu forums said that it was the best fix for the Network Manager not working. I added the source and installed the package like the Ubuntu site said. I go to Applications => Internet => Wicd Network Manager. It says no wireless networks found. I know that the router is working because my sister is right here next to me playing Maplestory on her laptop! When I do the lshw -C network function in the terminal it is only bringing up two things: the network controller and the ethernet controller. I used Yahoo Answers as my first goto and the answers there said that Linux doesn't have the drivers for the router. I have a Netgear Wireless-N 300 Router WNR2000 and a Dell Inspiron 1750, if that helps. Can someone give me a link to the drivers or tell me in detail what to do?

Ubuntu Networking :: Localhost Pointing To 192.168.0.1 Instead Of 127.0.0.1?

Apr 26, 2011

When i try to connect to MySQL database with MySQL Workbench using root@localhost i get following message: Failed to Connect to MySQL at localhost:3306 with user root

Access denied for user 'root'@'192.168.0.1' (using pasword: YES) which is ok, becouse 192.168.0.1 is not listed as a host from which MySQL server should accept connections.

I am a little confused, becouse i tell MySQL Workbench to connect using localhost, so server should (at least i think so) receive connection from 127.0.0.1

I think i had similar issue with PostgreSQL some time ago, but i just allowed connections from 192.168.0.1 then.

My host file is:
Code:

127.0.0.1 localhost.localdomain localhost

Ubuntu Servers :: Pointing / Hosting Domain Name To Server At Home?

Oct 13, 2010

I'm using Ubuntu Server (32bit) on a machine at home. I've bought a domain name(s) via Heartinternet.co.uk and my ISP is Bethere.co.uk I have installed my LAMP Server on my home based server and it's accessible via my static IP address. HTTP is forwarded on my router to my Ubuntu (web)Server. Now then, in laymen's terms, I want my domain name to resolve to my Ubuntu Server. I have installed and configured Bind9 to this guide found online: http://goo.gl/M3Pk i understand that I need to do this in order to 'host' the domain name. Or alternatively, if my presumptions are correct, I could leave the domain name with the registrar and use their DNS config panel to add an A record to point at my webserver (static IP address)???

If I forward port 53 (default for DNS) to my server (after setting up bind9 correctly) and within my domain name hosting options change the nameserver settings to point at my static ip address then would this be enough to host my domain from my home network?

I feel I nearly have a whole picture but...not quite. There's a multitude of vague guides on the internet (vague or I'm not reading them properly!)

Networking :: Communication Manager Daemon And HP Laptops With Synaptics Pointing Device?

Nov 7, 2010

I have installed 10.04 on several machines as well as imbedded inside VISTA. All of these installs work fine except the one on my HP Pavillion dv9000. The synaptics device on these machines is very touchy in all operating systems, but caused a strange issue in ubuntu 10.10. While connected to the internet and working fine I barely touched the pad and everything quit. I rebooted and found no way to reconnect to the internet. On the panel there was a little icon about the connection manager. Hovering over this icon gave the message "Connection Manager daemon not working". The usual tab to "enable networking" was dim and could not be activated.

I searched for several hours and found no reference regarding this daemon. Is there a source of the op sys names for such daemons and what sort of terminal command would I use to restart it if I knew what it was called? I ended up scrubbing the partition and reinstalling. Even the recovery process would not get the daemon to restart.

Server :: Index.php - On Server - Offered For Download Rather Than Being Interpreted?

Jan 18, 2010

I have SLES10 SP3 with Apache2 in version 2.2.3 and php5.

I have a virtual host configuration with one vhost.

The /etc/apache2/listen.conf:

Code:

In _web-ims.conf:

Code:

This directory (/etc/apache2/conf.d) also contains the php-config-file php5.conf which now gets interpreted (I suppose):

Code:

Actually things are working OK.

However, ON THE SERVER php only gets interpreted by the FireFox browser when called upon localhost:
[url] //Works fine.

When called thru the IP:

BUT when I call
[url]

FROM ANOTHER CLIENT-COMPUTER, for example my windows computer with XP, using Internet Explorer, then it works!

So, does s.o. have any idea why the same call that does work on another client does not work on the Server? And why does the call with localhost on the server work?

Is that a bug in the FireFox-Browser or where do I have to tell him that he should interpret the php-code also from the IP and not only from loccalhost?

I have setup Monitor 1 to be the primary using nvidia-settings but the GDM login keeps sowing up in the second monitor ; before the HDTV I had a CRT TV @ 1024x768 and all was good. My theory is that GDM determines the center of the Screen (both monitors together) and then centers on that monitor. If this is true then how may I override this behavior and force the GDM login to show on my primary monitor?

Debian Multimedia :: Login Greeter On Wrong Monitor

Apr 7, 2016

I have a laptop connected via HDMI port to different external displays throughout the day. I have configured the displays (Settings > Displays) to turn off the laptop display and set the external display as primary. However, this setting only takes effect after login. Thus, I am unable to see the login screen greeter on my external display because I close the laptop lid, so I am logging in blindly to a gray login screen background.

he issue I am facing is that when I start the laptop with an external display connected, the greeter only appears on the laptop display. The gray login screen background image spans both laptop and external displays and my mouse pointer appears on both displays, so I know both displays are detected and configured as dual displays. But, I am guessing, the laptop display is set as primary while the external as secondary.

I would like to know if there is a way to dynamically switch the greeter between the two displays, regardless of which one is set as primary and secondary. Or, is there a way to configure the system such that if there is an external display connected via HDMI, then it is set as primary, and if no external display is connected, then the laptop display is set as primary?

I have searched all over the net and this forum to no avail. I read a post which required copying the user's ~/.config/monitors.xml file over to /var/lib/gdm/.config/ but this caused my laptop monitor to be turned off at login even when there was no external display connected.

Hardware: Acer Aspire 8730G, Core 2 Duo T9900, 8GB RAM, Nvidia Geforce 9600M GT.
Software: Debian 8.4 Jessie, Gnome 3.14.1, Gallium 0.4 on NV96 (I am assuming this is the Nouveau driver)

Contents of the /etc/X11/xorg.conf file which I generated with the command "Xorg -configure" as root in console mode:

Code: Select allSection "ServerLayout"
   Identifier     "X.org Configured"
   Screen      0  "Screen0" 0 0
   InputDevice    "Mouse0" "CorePointer"
   InputDevice    "Keyboard0" "CoreKeyboard"
EndSection

[Code] ...

I suppose I will continue to login without seeing the greeter on my external display.

Server :: Rewrite Engine On - Won't Load The Index.php

Jun 27, 2010

I have been working on this for the last couple of days, but I don't seem to be getting anywhere with it.

I have a Fedora 12 64bit Server set up, and for the most part it's working Great. I have 3 VHost set up, and no problems with that.

My problem is I just moved my Wife's xcart store from Godaddy to this server. And the store works great. But xcart is set up to use Clean URL's, and this is what I seem to be having all the problems with.

In my "httpd.conf" file, I have "AllowOverride All" to use ".htaccess" and in xcart ACP I have it set to use Clean URL's. I added a ".htaccess" file to root folder, with this in it.

Quote:

Now if you try to log in to the store with just the base url "www.my_site.com/" I get a the Apache Test page. But if I enter "www.my_site.com/index.php" the Home page opens, and all clean url's from there work fine. ALL other pages will open just fine. So clean URL's is working. Its just the home page that won't load right.

Now if I change the ".htaccess" file, and set "RewriteEmgine Off", then the home page will load like it should with the base url., but then "Clean URL's" no longer work. I have to change "AllowOverride All" to "AllowOverride None" and turn Clean URL's off in the ACP of xcart. to get the store working again.

Then the whole site works just fine, just No Clean URL's. I'm at my wits end with this, don't know what else to try to get this to work. So I was hoping someone here might have an answer, or at least some ideas to try. This all worked just fine on GoDaddy's site, I left because it was just too dam slow. It took a minute and a half just to load the Home Page. On my server its less that 2 seconds. And every time I asked them about it, it would speed up for a few days then slow down again. But the same .htaccess file worked on that server. So I think my problem is in my "httpd.conf" file just don't know where.
