There is a realtek rtl8187 on my board, and windows can browse and connect to wireless networks. I installed F11 and it was capable of browse and connect to my wireless network - even if it was really slower than windows. Anyway I did some yum update+reboots and now NetworkManager don't list any wireless network, and the checkbox "Enabled wireless" in the right click menu disappeared (I can see "Enable networking" only now). What can I do?

I just rebooted my netbook after updates this last week and notices the wireless is broken now. The updates updated my kernel and wl modules. I'm using a broadcom 43224 driver. If i reboot to the older kernel the wireless works.

As the title says i updated my system which then needed a reboot. I also installed Mixxx djing software to try it out. So i thought id just restart the system. Usually when i boot into my desktop wireless automatically can connect to my router but not this time, wired only for now... i know theres tons of wireless issue threads but some more experienced users will be able to get straight to the point and run through some diagnostics with me.
View 1 Replies View RelatedCreating a new thread for the specific chipset. Laptop is an Acer 5534 with the Atheros chipset. Normally uses the Ath9k driver. To get it to work originally I had to download, compile and install the latest compat_wireless drivers. See post here: {URL] I did the update that came through today and after the reboot there was no wireless internet. It alternates between reboots between having no wireless networks at all detected to never connection to the [AUTO] network previously defined. To fix the problem, I downloaded the latest compat_wireless, compat-wireless-2009-12-11.tar.bz2, and followed the same procedure. I did not do a make clean. To solve the problem temporarily, I edited the grub config and set default to 2 instead of 0 (1 would be 0 in recovery mode).

After a day, auto update have shown that I have lots of packages to update. I said OK, let's do it. After a restart the wifi led was not lit anymore. I am unable to discover any wifi networks.. View 3 Replies View RelatedI've been running Ubuntu 10.04 x64 for about a week now, and it's been working flawlessly until today. This morning when attempting to connect to my wireless network, I click on the wireless icon (which currently has an ! next to it), find my network, and it begins to seem as if it is connecting, but then a pop-up comes up stating: "Wireless Network -- disconnected". No matter how many times I restart or attempt to connect to the network, it will not connect. I can see that the adapter is working, as it sees my network and others; however, it will not connect, it continually seems as if it's trying, then the pop-up comes up stating it has been disconnected. but as it all worked fine before and this was just an update not an upgrade I suppose drivers etc are all OK anyway.
Also, rfkill showed nothing was blocked to need unblocking, and ifconfig gives a permissions error
I have a wired connection operating without any problems at all.
I configured my Xubuntu laptop to work with my Netgear Wireless router to connect to the Internet. I was able to connect, and downloaded Hardy updates of 184 MB. After installation of the updates, the system prompted me to restart. The Wireless network is not working since then. Tried reconfiguring, but to no avail. The proprietary drivers for my wireless network card have been downloaded and installed... remember, it worked well enough download the updates! I am running UNR on an Asus T91MT and everything was working great until an update yesterday, my OS froze while updating and I had to do a hard reboot. Since, I have not been able to get wireless, and lshw does not even recognize the presence of a wireless device on the system.

I am using an Intel WiFi Link 4965AGN built in adapter.
When I was prompted for a system-update I clicked Update and apparently something failed an only a partial-update happened. Now my wireless/Ethernet connections do not work. I tried enabling all Network Adapters but that option is no longer available in the "Preference/Administration" tab.
Note: I cannot access the internet at all on that partition so I can't download any updates from repositories.
10.04 was connecting to wireless on boot up without a problem. After updating, it can no longer do it. I have to click on the wireless icon (which has an exclamation mark through it) and connect to hidden. I can then choose my wireless profile and am asked for my elevated privileges password. Once supplied, the connection is made.I presume the encryption password is 'locked' now at boot.
View 2 Replies View Relatedyesterday I let the update manager install a whole bunch of updates for my 10.04 install on my MSI Notebook ER710. My wireless was just working peachy until then (with the madwifi drivers), but after the update, no more... I checked the madwifi, tried a new make, but nothing worked.
So, after reading somewhere that 10.10 had less issues with wireless I decided to upgrade to 10.10 in the hope that that would solve my problem.
Well, partly it did, as in, according to my system I've got a wireless again and this morning even, it was able to see wireless networks! Unfortunately I couldn't connect to mine, although the key was correct. At some point I lost the ability to see wireless networks again. I tried wicd too, but no luck their either. It recognizes my card but can't see any networks.

I have an EEE 1000 that successfully connected to WPA networks until yesterday. I tried re-installing the RT2860 drivers that had been previously modified and did not have success.
Additionally, I just installed 10.04 on a Gateway laptop that's a few years old. It immediately connected to the WPA network and I ran the updater. Lo and behold, after updating it no longer connects to the network.
I just upgraded the kernel on my Ubuntu laptop from 2.6.32-24-generic to 2.6.32-25-generic (using the update manager under gnome). After the update, the wireless network controller shows up as UNCLAIMED when I do lshw -C network. When I try to install the driver with the commands sudo modprobe lib80211 sudo insmod wl.ko
i get this error message: insmod: error inserting 'wl.ko': -1 Invalid module format
I have compiled the driver using the 2.6.32-24 kernel. Do I have to re-compile with the new kernel?I'm a unix user, but not a kernel hacker, so I'm wondering if I will run into problems every time I get a kernel update? Or is this problem an exception?
Here is my problem: I am using ubuntu 10.10 64 bit installed on a HP tx2 1274nr laptop. I can get my wireless to work on both the Broadcom B43 wireless driver and the Broadcom STA wireless driver. Though only one can be active at a time.
My problem lies in I can activate either driver until I reboot the laptop. then it becomes inactive.
Is there a fix for this problem. I would like to have my wireless active after restarting.
This doc is very outdated. I don't know who compiled it, but it's very old and isn't up to pace with all the newer hardware that has been released over the past year.

Well, I have an issue with my wireless card in Ubuntu 10.04, my wireless card model is:
the D-Link WIRELESS N 150 DESKTOP ADAPTER DWA-525. I was already successful getting it to work by using the RaLink driver suggested here and following the instructions in their readme. But after a system update I performed through Update Manager (in which I guess the kernel was updated), the device stopped working completely. The wireless icon remains(in the top panel), but it displays a red exclamation mark next to it
My wireless worked perfectly on my clean install of Fedora 11. However, after the system update, my wireless continued to work perfectly for about ten minutes. Then it dropped the network connection. however, it still says that it is connected, although I cannot load any web pages, nor get email, nor connect to anything at all. When I reload the connection it continues to say it is connected, after prompting for the password that used to be saved and used automatically. It now works for maybe a few seconds at a time, loading part of a web page, then stopping.
