Mar 3, 2010
I have been trying for months to get my wireless working on my acer laptop and I am now beyond despair. I using an Acer Extensa 67000 and here is what is at issue:
ubuntu@ubuntu:~$ lspci -nn | grep 'Wireless'
06:04.0 Network controller [0280]: Intel Corporation PRO/Wireless 2200BG [Calexico2] Network Connection [8086:4220] (rev 05)
ubuntu@ubuntu:~$ lspci -vn On this one I posted just what I thought would be relevant:

I recently switched to Linux ubuntu 9.10 the olny problem i have now is my wireless. i have IBM THINKPAD t43 looked online, the best thing is to install ipw2200. Which needs ieee80211 I downloaded ieee80211-1.2.18 but when i run "make" it gives me this:
Code:
Checking in /lib/modules/2.6.31-19-generic for ieee80211 components...
make -C /lib/modules/2.6.31-19-generic/build M=/home/mohammad/Desktop/ieee80211-1.2.18 modules
make[1]: Entering directory `/usr/src/linux-headers-2.6.31-19-generic'
CC [M] /home/mohammad/Desktop/ieee80211-1.2.18/ieee80211_module.o
[code]....
I'm a root when i run the command from my understanding the problem is that there is a compiling error in ieee80211_module.c but i might be wrong!

my ipw2200 w-lan driver's been disconnecting frequently and I've done some research on it, while seeing that it's been a frequent problem, in the past.

I'm using Fedora 9 and I recently transferred my hard drive to a new laptop. Everything went smoothly except the wireless, which promptly broke. I played around with the network service and the NetworkManager service and chkconfig stuff and system-config-network, until I finally got it to work. Now I have wireless, but every time I shut down, I get some error-like messages:
"ipw2200: Failed to send SYSTEM_CONFIG: Already sending a command." repeating every second for about 3 or 4 seconds before it finally does shut down.
These also appear in dmesg, usually about 20 in a row, thus my concern. My wireless device's interface is eth3. How to get rid of this message while still keeping wireless connectivity.

So I've been looking around and some people say that the IPW2200 driver doesn't need Ieee80211 to work properly. What I'm trying to do is compile my own driver with the Jamx patch for version 1.2.2 but then it says that I do in fact need Ieee80211 to be installed. Even though I don't have it installed, my wireless works great. I just need the patch to work with the driver. I've also tried configuring some of the files in the Ieee80211 folder but it doesn't seem to help at all. When I try to use the make command for Ieee80211 I get this:
Quote:
gooch@gooch-laptop:~/Downloads/ieee80211-1.2.18$ make
Makefile:17:
Makefile:18: WARNING: $SHELL not set to bash.[code]..
As you can see, It looks like it got rid of the proc_net errors but I still can't get it to install properly. Also, if I try to do the make SHELL=/bin/bash, it ends up being the exact same thing. This is really starting to get frustrating. Is there any way I can bypass this or do I need to install Ieee80211? If so, how can I do it without all these errors in Ubuntu 10.04.

I want to switch my laptop from XP to Ubuntu, but right now, i cant risk installing it. i dont want to have it partitioned so i can dual boot, so for now i only run the try-it-out mode. Before i consider installing though, i want to see if i can get everything to work ahead of time, that way im not regreting instalation. I have a Compaq Presario V2000 laptop, with 55GB hard drive and 516MB ram. So far, the trial mode is working great, but the wireless will not work. Ive tried to install the driver, but i am unable to do so. I have looked this up, and i have tried many things, and so far, none have worked.I was wondering if it was just part of the trial thing or not, but it is a Broadcom Wireless BCM4318 driver

Recently I have installed Fedora 14 on my other laptop. It's a dual boot with Windows 7. Everything worked perfectly fine, networking included, until my friend didn't accidently turned off the wireless by pressing a wireless button on the laptop. Since then the wireless on Fedora doesn't work. It does on Windows thought. I've tried restarting the laptop few times, but the wireless still doesn't want to work again.

I've been experiencing a problem with Fedora in which when I enable Wireless in Fedora, Wireless networking does not work in windows. HOwever, when disabled, it works correctly. Windows claims it is "not able to find any networks to connect to"
EDIT: It seems that when wireless is disabled manually on fedora before shutdown, there are no problems in windows.

I'm very new to Ubuntu and Linux in general. I installed Ubunutu NBR on a HP Mini 2140. After some wireless issues and a bad decision, I deleted the ssb.ko files. Now the wireless won't work at all. How can I repair the SSB modules or reinstall those files?

I've installed Ubuntu 9.1 on my Acer Aspire One ZG5 that was previously running Win XP with the wireless working fine. In ubuntu, though, i can't get the wireless to work at all and I don't really even know how to troubleshoot it. I've opened a terminal and used sudo to update various packages, but still nothing. It does appear as though the system recognizes the card since I can configure it, but I'm not keen on playing wi8th the BSSID and MAC address stuff because I just don't have any confidence that it will change my situation. Has anyone had any success with this setup (ubuntu 9.1 and acer one)? Is there a step-by-step wireless troubleshooting/ configuration process that's generic to ubuntu?

Let me start off by saying that I'm a complete Linux-noob. I just installed Ubuntu 9.10 and I'm really enjoying it. I was planning to install it for quite a while now but now that I have my own computer, I actually could make it happen. That being said, it's a whole difference with Windows though and sometimes it's hard to find my way in this new system. My main problem is that I can't seem to get my wireless connection working. From what I've read online this problem is not uncommon with Ubuntu 9.10?
I tried searching for my wireless card drivers in 'System > Administration > Hardware Drivers' but that didn't really work out. It did find a wireless card driver but when I try to activate it, it returns an error message. All the other drivers seem to be installed so I can't really see what the problem is. Can anyone help me with this?BTW, I think I also have a problem with the graphics card driver. When I try to active the 'extra' desktop effects is says this can't be activate. I already tried installing Compiz and the Composite Manager.

I've installed Ubuntu 10.04 on a computer I can't get the wireless to work. I looked into it, and I believe the problem is that I don't have the right driver to work with the wireless card, but I wasn't able to tell what my wireless card is properly. And when I got the bcmwl-kernel-source package and installed it, the driver still didn't appear under "hardware drivers". Compounding the problem, I can't use any sudo commands for some reason because when it prompts me to enter the sudo password, the keys other than "enter" don't seem to work. I probably don't have the right information up there.

I have a problem with my laptop's wireless card. My laptop is Grundig GNB-250D. According to lspci my wireless card is a "Marvell Technology Group Ltd. 88w8335 [Libertas] 802.11b/g Wireless (rev 43)".
I can browse the internet just fine if I use an ethernet cable. Also the card worked perfectly on Windows Vista. I tried installing the drivers using Ndiswrapper and it didn't seem to work By the way I followed this guide: [URL]

I have been messing around with ubuntu for a few hours now trying to get my wireless driver to work, but I am having no luck. It seems like I installed the driver right, and network-admin use to show the wireless, but I couldn't unlock it to mess with properties. Now it doesn't even show wireless, and I still can't unlock it, so I'm unable to get my wireless card to work.

last night as a download was going the Internet just stopped connection. Then asked me for the WPA & WPA2 personal password. I didn't know what to put since I had already tried multiple pass words I restarted the router. Now for some reason the computer won't pick up the router wireless signal. It picks up multiple connection's around my area so I know that it's not the wireless card. The router is connected via ethernet at the moment so I know the internet works.Do I have to find the ssid? Maybe the router reconfigured it's self when I restart it and broadcasting mode turned off... I just don't know

I just installed Ubontu 9.10 and I am a first time user. I am attempting to run my Sabrent usb 2.0 wireless-N ieee 802.11n device with Ubontu but I cant seem to figure it out. I can not access it as a regular usb device and I can't access the installation driver. The device loads up an installation screen when I use it on windows so I know its not the device. Not sure how to install it or to get it to run from here.
This is what I have done thus far:

I'm running 10.04 64 bit, and the Intel PRO/Wireless 5100 AGN does not work with n routers. I'd like to either upgrade the card, or buy a usb adapter, but I can't figure out which cards will work. I've searched[URL].. which lists supported wifi cards, but most of the info on that page is not relevant to lucid, and hasn't been updated at all this year. I saw elsewhere that any card with the atheros chipset will work, but what cards have this? Will all of them with this chipset work?
