Ubuntu Networking :: Wireless Connect Fails At WEP Key?

Dell mini 10 with ubuntu 10.04/windows xp, connecting to linksys wrt54g. Connected when I was using 9.10, has worked for several months since 10.04 was installed. Still works if I boot XP, but, when booting Ubuntu, router won't accept the passkey which I obtained from my wired computer. I've glanced through a bunch of posts and see several which are close, but no solution. Only cause that I can think of might be a shut down while connected. I say that because it was working and I had no need to change settings.
in linux world and have recently downloaded and installed ubuntu desktop 10.10i cannot connect to both wired and wireless ethernet on my laptopit tries to connect but fails in 30 seconds , it says"disconnected" while i am able to connect to the same in windows i have broadcom 4315 and i have tried both fwcutter and ndiswrapper but the problem persiststhe device id is 14e4:4315
The nm-applet starts automatically as it should, and also tries to connect to the local, wireless LAN, but always fails its first attempt. If I click the icon and ask nm-applet to connect again, it always succeeds.
The server, running the wireless LAN, never sees the first attempt to connect, so no wonder this attempt fails. But it would be nice to make it succeed!
I have an Atheros AR242x card. It can see my wireless network (WPA2). When i attempt to connect to the network it asks for the WPA2 passphrase. After entering the password it begins connecting but hangs up for about 3 minutes before saying wireless disconnected. The wireless worked for one day on a fresh install (Ubuntu 10.04)and then started doing this.
I'm trying to find out why the wireless access point at work most of the time won't let me connect to the network. I'm using Ubuntu 10.04 on a DELL vostro 1720. The router model is D-LINK DIR-655. lspci gives me: Network controller: Broadcom Corporation BCM4312 802.11b/g (rev 01), and I'm using Broardcom STA drivers.
If I try like 10-20 times to connect I will often finally get connected and once connected everything works fine for the rest of the day. The only router I'm having this problem with is this one. In the log below, the last lines is a connectionattempt that succeeded and all the lines above those are several attempts that failed. It seemes like there is some kind of timeout issue but I'm not sure what and how to fix it.

Dell Inspiron 640m laptop, running 10.04. It previously connected via wifi & now fails to connect, although the wireless indicator shows a connection. Connection via ethernet works. Below there's some information that looked like might it be useful to diagnose the problem based on other posts in this forum.
I have a new Acer Aspire One, model D250-1958. It uses the Atheros AR928X. I've tried Ubuntu Netbook Remix 9.10 and Ubuntu Netbook Edition 10.04, as well as the conventional Ubuntu. Everything works beautifully, except no wireless. The netbook picks up the signal, but when I provide the Key it fails to connect, and eventually prompts me for the key again.
I've tried to research this on my own, but haven't found a solution. In particular, the solution reported by narnie for his Acer Aspire One D250-1584, <HERE>, didn't work for me.
I'd really like to get this working. The netbook will be much less useful if it can't make use of our wireless router.
Since my update to OpenSuse 11.2 knetworkmanager refuses to connect to WEP enabled networks (worked fine with knetworkmanager 11.1). I am sure that I use the correct password and I tried on 3 different networks. The manager is connecting to open networks and WAP protected networks without problems. I saw on other forums that there were similar problems with previous versions of networkmanager. But I could not find a solution for my problem.
I'm pretty new to Linux, but have had a bit of functional tutoring. i'm triple booting my old Dimension 8400. Have been running with Jackalope and XP for some time now and wanted to install Lynx and get a good handle on it before i completely wipe my other machine (Win7/Jackalope) and install it there.
Installed Lynx from a USB stick and all seems well, it recognises the UBS wireless and all available connections but just sits and spins on the password login and never connects...hmmm. I have tried all possible combinations of rebooting with the USB connected/disconnected/connecting after... to no avail.
The wireless seems to "work out of the box" just as seamlessly as it did for Jackalope, all the steps are similar, it just never connects.
Dell Studio 1735 w/BCM4312 WEP fails to connect even though I'm using the 10 character HEX key. It connects fine when there's no security on my Linksys WRT310N router. Ubuntu, Windows 7, my Samsung TV and TiVo all connect fine with the 10 character HEX key, but with opensuse 11.4 I can't connect.
My wireless (Toshiba laptop, 10.04 64 bit) is just hanging when trying to connect. It was working fine but now nothing. My Wireless antennae is on and my other laptop can connect with no problems. I have restarted the router and the laptop twice.
My Realtek RTL8187 Wifi fail to connect using WPA security. The authentication window shows up repeatedly every time I try to connect. Please note the password is correct. I searched and haven't found a conclusive solutions as of yet.
Has anyone else experienced a failure to connect to a mobile network. I have root access wireless tether on my Droid X and I can't seem to connect to it. It times out. My buddies windows box can, and his Iphone will as well. I can see the network just fine, just no connection. Tried changing frequencies as well. And restarting both the phone and laptop.
I have recently installed ubuntu 11.04 on my asus eeepc1005hab. And I've had problems with the wifi. I can connect via ethernet, but the wireless won't connect. I can see the connection, but my wifi never connects. I've tried many things but it still won't work.
I just upgraded to natty last night, and everything is working fine except for the network manager. I can enable and configure the wireless card via bash, but the network manager widget will not manage the wireless card.
When I first boot up, the "Enable wireless" check box is greyed out. After I enable the card via the terminal, the "Enable wireless" check box becomes ungreyed, but every time I click it, it instantly unchecks itself. I feel like Currly from the Three Stoogies. Check, uncheck, Check, uncheck.. "Slaps face repeatedly."
A friend called me today and he explained to me that after his ubuntu install he was unable to connect to a wired Ethernet network. He says it trys to connect using ETH0 and then seemingly fails and disconnects. I have him run a if config and send me a pic. The very odd thing about it is He had a lot 5-8 INET6 address? The laptops is Acer extensa 4420
Ubuntu 9.10 comes with rt2870, the driver for my Zonet ZEW2545, and I have had to blacklist rt2800usb in /etc/modprobe.d/blacklist.conf in order for rt2870 to work. My network adapter is able to attempt to connect to my router, but after 10-40 seconds it tells me I am disconnected again. This adapter works fine on windows.
Those are my authentication capabilities, obviously. I am using a WEP encryption for my wireless router and according to this, it will not allow me to connect. Is there anyway to allow that? The wireless card works just fine in Windows, even on the same network encryption type. Using a Intel Wireless/Pro 4965 ag. Note* this is my mother's router and whatnot. She won't change it the encryption type.
The problem with my wireless network. I have Dell DV6 Pavilion 2115 eg laptop and i installed Ubuntu 11.4 and internet and wireless worked, until i reboted my system it has disapear. I cant no longer to connect to a wireless network. It dont shows me any wireless network. My wireless card is Atheros AR 9285 802.11b/g/n Wifi Adapter
I installed a Tenda W322P wireless card in my dual-boot PC running both Windows XP and Ubuntu 11.04. The card worked straight out of the box on XP, but does not function correctly under Ubuntu. My apologies for any missing/irrelevant information, I am having to post this from the Windows boot so the Ubuntu settings are not directly available at the same time as internet access.I followed the process detailed here htURL...to install and configure the driver (I believe from reading other sites that this card is the Ralink RT3062 chipset), blacklisted the original RT2860 driver that was in use (couldn't even get the card to scan for wireless networks with the default driver) and restarted the interface.
Since then, sudo iwlist scan can find my wireless router but when I attempt to connect to it, it seems to enter a loop of requesting the WEP key then pausing for a while before re-requesting the key. I know I have the key value correct because it is copied and pasted from the same text file I used to copy and paste into the passkey field on the Windows boot. Attempting to connect to the router using Ubuntu also has the rather unfortunate side-effect of crashing the wireless router, killing off all other device connections until the router has been reset.
I have been trying to connect to my University's VPN Server and for some reason vpnc fails. I have configured the vpn settings the same way I did for the past two years. They worked properly on Fedora 12 and 13, but for some reason fails on Fedora 14.

In all but one place my HP Pavilion laptop running Fedora 14 will work flawlessly to use the Internet for e-mail, ftp, http, etc. In one network there is a wireless router - Cisco/Linksys E3000 - that allows every computer to use the Internet normally for wireless or for wired connections, every computer but mine. If I use Google's Chrome I can access the Internet. I can ping any web site too, but the moment I try to access anything with Firefox 3.6.17 there is a long delay and the standard error page appears. Weather or not I use a wired connection is apparently irrelevant.The Windows 7 computers in the same network are free of this curious problem. Strangely I have noted a problem like this, possibly the same problem, with another network at a coffee shop and they both share the misfortune of using AT&T, which is proud to not support Linux ... for customers of course (it's good enough for themselves I'm sure)
I upgraded from 9.x to 10.10. Under 9.x my wireless usb dongle worked correctly. After upgrade it does not. I checked the dongle on another machine and it works correctly. I inserted a usb memory stick and the system found it as a drive correctly. I assume from this that both the dongle and usb port are ok. The wireless device is a D-Link G122 A2 which is on the supported list (it ran out of the box on 9.x). The link light did not even come on. So I installed ndiswrapper and the windows D-Link driver (note that this was not needed in 9.x). Now the link light comes on and the wireless router is found but the unit will still not connect.

It appears that the problem is with wlan0 not being ready. If this is the case how do I make it ready?
When connecting to any wireless network, DNS lookups completely fail to work. Over a wired connection, there's no trouble.
I can ping machines by IP address, and I can dig and nslookup domain names using the DNS servers assigned by Network Manager or by myself. When I try to ping by domain name, however, nothing happens. Similarly, I cannot ssh into machines by domain name or browse the web.
My wireless card (Intel 4965AGN) is managed by Network Manager. The issue is seen regardless of whether DNS servers are obtained automatically by DHCP or assigned by me through Network Manager. This started about a month or two ago while I was using Maverick and presents again with Natty. I dual-boot Natty and Windows 7, and everything works fine in Windows.
Somehow, this seems to be linked to Nautiluswhile connected to a wireless network, Nautilus won't open, my desktop icons won't show, all that jazz. If I'm connected to a wired connection at login time, Nautilus works fine.
I've managed to workaround the browsing issue by setting up an ssh tunnel through a machine at school and forwarding Firefox's DNS resolution through that tunnel. But I'm at a loss as to how to resolve the core problem.

I've tried all the basic steps killing and restarting Network Manager, renewing my DHCP lease using dhclient, restarting /etc/init.d/networking. I'm at the end of my rope, though, and ready to reinstall. I'd be much obliged if anyone can think of a less "Microsoft" solution.
I am having a little trouble connecting to my wireless network. Running Fedora 10 32 bit.I'm trying to connect to a hidden wireless network. I updated the firmware for my driver but apparantly the driver is still not working. Broadcom has a driver from their website for Linux 32 bit systems. Should I attempt to install it? I read a post where the driver is built into the system kernel. If so I would need to blacklist the one of the drivers. Correct?

I have a Compaq Presario CQ42-195TX laptop with Ubuntu 10.04 (64-bit) installed on it and fully updated. It has a Realtek RTL8191SE wireless chipset which I am having trouble with - its wired connection is working perfectly.After starting up, I am able to see and connect to wireless networks. Once connected, the wireless functions correctly for a very brief period (under 10 seconds) in which I am able to access the Internet and so forth. The connection then stops working - although it doesn't get disconnected. When I say it "stops working", I mean I can no longer access the Internet and trying to ping the router gives me a "Destination Host Unreachable" error. If I disconnect from the network I cannot reconnect, nor can I connect to any other network.- though I can still see the list of available networks.
I thought that maybe this was a 64-bit issue, but I tried the Ubuntu 10.04 32-bit live CD and experienced the same problem.Please note that while this thread is about the RTL8191SE chipset, the RTL819xSE chipsets all use the same driver.Below are the results of various commands while connected to the network but after the connection has stopped functioning correctly:lspci -nn | grep "Realtek"
I recently installed Ubuntu 10.04.1 LTS and have it set to dual-boot with windows 7 on my gateway tablet PC. Since installing, sometimes when I suspend or reboot, my wireless does not work. To be more clear - it is working fine, then I either suspend/reboot, then I come back and no wireless networks show up at all. I can still connect with ethernet cable though. I can solve it by rebooting multiple times (usually around 1-5 times) and then it (magically) seems to work again. I have also tried switching from network-manager to wicd, but the problem persists. With both network-manager and wicd, I've tried simulating a reboot for the wireless by using the command 'sudo modprobe -r iwl3945 && sudo modprobe iwl3945' (network-manager) and 'sudo /etc/init.d/wicd restart' (wicd), but these do not seem to work.
I'm having a problem with my wireless, and after searching the forums for a couple of hours, I suspect it's time to speak up.This morning, wireless was up and working fine on several networks. My laptop froze around noon, and I was forced to do a hard reboot. After restarting, the Network Manager will not connect to any wireless networks, which are visible. Wired connections work fine. I've tried multiple networks, and although I can see them, I cannot connect.
