I am running Ubuntu 9.04 on a laptop (Wireless) and Vista (plugged into router) on a multimedia center. I can watch tv shows from 2 out of the 3 tv network sites that i like. CTV and Global tv stream ok on both systems. however CBC won't work unless the pc is directly plugged in without the router.

I first noticed the problem because my wireless internet will stop working. The usb stick has its LED constantly on but it fails to connect. I have tried some methods of restarting the networking, like "sudo restart network-manager", disabling and re-enabling the wireless and networking from the taskbar applet. I tried removing the module and restarting it. It might be a bigger problem because I'll find that things will randomly hand for awhile, like opening system monitor, or running terminal commands. They do eventually run but only after several minutes. A restart seems to get everything working again, but the problem comes back at random times. I am willing to solve this right now as I have time, just let me know what info you need and I will post it.
Update: Some more info I forgot to include. I am running Ubuntu 11.04. It just froze again, I tried logging in and out but the internet still wouldn't work and things were hanging, I couldn't get file manager open. I have even tried shutting down the computer and had it stall on the Ubuntu logo with the dots loading so I had to hard restart.....

Masquerading will work, however it will throw off anything key based and makes a lot of things just more difficult and vague in general. Is there an easy way to do this via iptables? View 3 Replies View RelatedI have three locations with a central office connected to two remote locations. At the central office I run on a cisco asa 5505 two site to site vpns. The remote end of the first site is a checkpoint firewall , and the remote end of the second site is racoon on debian. Both sites are up and working. However, where at the first site traffic goes both ways, at the second site it only works from the central office to the remote office.
For example, I can ssh from a host in the central office to a host in the first remote site (through checkpoint firewall,) then ssh back from that host at the remote office to any host in the central office. In contrast, after I ssh from a host in the central office to a host in the second remote office (through racoon), I cannot see the central office hosts (ping the ip address of a central office host, ssh, etc. all fail.) The vpn settings at the central office (the cisco asa 5505) are identical. So it seems to me that some routing magic is missing on the host running racoon at the second remote office. Where would such setting reside? racoon config files? iptables?
Alright, I've looked through a many variety of forums to search for the answer to this problem and haven't found it yet. What is happening is during use of my internet browser, Google Chrome and Mozilla Firefox, on Ubuntu 9.10 there are points in time, could be 10 minutes could be 3 hours, that the interface locks up. The mouse is the only peripheral that works, but nothing happens when clicking and the keyboard is locked as well.
Now I'm new to Ubuntu but not computers, I can work my way around Microsoft Windows and just recently took the jump to Linux and have been working myself in slowly. The problem I'm having seems to occur when using Java oriented websites, yet I can't figure out what the problem is, I've tried installing and re-installing java to no avail. My mind is boggled as to the cause of the problem, but I'm open knowing that there is a lot more to go in the troubleshooting than I'm normally use to.

View 1 Replies View RelatedAt 1 of the computers I have a problem with a certain internet site. Maybe other sites give problems too, but I'm not aware of that. I get this problem with the following site [URL] At the other computers the site is interactive. Normally you could enter an address on the left and also place markers on the map at the right. On the other computers everything works fine. But on this certain computer, the site still indicates that it is loading, and nothing else happens.
I uninstalled flash, firefox, and java. I also remove the folders .mozilla, and .macromedia, restarted the computer, and installed firefox again. Then I installed macromedia flash and java. But when I started that certain site, the problem exists. At last, I installed Google Chromium. With this browser everything works fine.
i just installed ubuntu and the apps i wish to use and well where do i start its freezing sounds crashing then my internet goes and most apps are crashing it makes the desktop unuseble. It works really well for like a haf an hour then crashes i never had this problem in windows witch i had on here before i may go back unless i can find some kind of fix.

View 7 Replies View RelatedNew to ubuntu but have use Suse 11.2 a bit. I downloaded a Spanish dictionary to Openoffice on suse with no problems. Under the tools in Openoffice word it says Languages "other dictionaries available". Click on it and it takes you to a site with all types of foriengs language dictionaries. I found the mexico spanish dictionary and it said get it. On suse it downloaded it and it auto installed it with a program in Yast I believe. Anyway the dictionary was in there when I opened office the next time.
Ubuntu is a different story, I can download it but do not know how to install the Spanish dictionary file to the OpenOffice. Is their a program included with ubuntu (gnome) desktop that will load this file and set it up in Office?
I am currently using opensuse to run a server, however I am experiencing some difficulties. Every once in a while, and I mean completely randomly. This will occur out of no where, and then not happen for five days, then occur twenty times in a row. What happens is the computer runs fine, and all is well but suddenly it wont connect to the internet. All applications are fine and everything is working. It isn't frozen, just won't load webpages. I am using a belkin 111v2 wireless g adapter and it usually works fine.
So when the internet freezes, if I unplug any usb the computer freezes. The mouse stops moving and the keyboard won't respond. The caps lock light won't even turn on. However the laser on the mouse is on, but the computer won't respond. Its like its shutting off the usb hubs. The only thing to do is force shut it off and restart until i no longer have the problem. Sometimes it helps if I open it and re-seat the ram, but that gets old. Does anyone have a solution?
In one of our network we are using one firewall which works as gateway. All machines are able to access internet through this gateway. There is no filtering and any internet restriction. I would like to setup monitoring system which monitor and log bandwidth and sites access by client machine. Is there any tool which monitor internet access as well as sites which are access from client machines.

We have a website that is loading .htm documents extremely slow when using Internet Explorer 8 behind Squid. When we bypass the proxy and go directly out to the internet all is fast and pages load fine.But when the proxy is on documents will take sometimes up to 6 minutes to load.This issue is only apparent using Internet explorer 8.I do not see the issue when using firefox with Squid.I have tried to use the no_cache directive thinking it may have been the cache but that didn't work either.I am attaching our access.log, store.log and squid.conf.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI have configured a squid proxy server with @2 eth in different network subnet and with site blocking and extn file download blocking. One eth0 for office wired network and another eth1 is for office wireless network for laptop use for guest and visitors.
The problem is [URL] is an Indian government website, which is not working though this proxy server and the Internet Explorer is getting very slow and freezing the computer. In alternate I have configured a another test server with squid proxy with out any security and test the same. the problem is still with the all the computer in the network. The above website is perfectly working with Gateway configuration in TCP/IP properties in Network Configuration in MS Windows XP computers but through squid proxy its not working.

I have cricket wireless broadband and the starcom um100 usb stick. It reconized it when I first put it in and was able to set it up. I connect to the internet and I am able to go to one or two pages before it freezes on me.
I ran the lshw -C network code and this is what I got it doesnt see my wireless
When I connect my wireless it does see it when I ran the lsusb code ( it didn't see it before when I didn't have it connected)

In the office there is a local network with samba+openldap PDC. The local domain name is company.net. The company desided to create a corporate Website on a remote hosting and desided that the site's domain should be company.net which is same as local network's domain name. So now it is not possible to reach that corporate website from within the company's local network because, as I guess, bind9 which is installed on above menioned PDC looks for company.net on a local webserver. Is there a possibility to let people from this local network browse the remote site?
View 1 Replies View RelatedYesterday I had to use my netbooks Acer restore program to restore my win7 partition to factory settings. This morning when booting up unbuntu, I was greeted with the guild freezing every time. I also booted in classic and had the same problem. I decided to open safe mode and deactivate each program one at a time. WHen I get to network manager Unity boots fine. I then try to start Network Manager from inside of Unity after it boots and as soon as it boots, the entire computer freezes again, it was booting fine until I had to restore my win7 partition, win7 networks still work. It's and Asus Aspire One 722.

Tracert isn't working at all. Once it hits the lightspeed.frokca.sbcglobal.net hop it just dies like ATT isn't allowing traceroutes. I've been using Tor as a work around. About 3 months ago I basically had the same issue with openbittorrent.com's site.
I have a linux server and windows XP box. I can't ping the above IP nor tracepath/traceroute to the IP from my linux box.
I have ATT uverse.
EDIT: The site is hometheaterlounge.com (The IP won't do you much and its just the IP of the site host).

View 2 Replies View RelatedThe first two times I entered the wireless key on the prompt that appeared shortly after login, the computer froze completely. ctr-alt-f1 ctr-alt-backspace did nothing. The third time, I closed the first prompt and after 10 minutes I tried connecting again. It didn't freeze, at first. The internet worked. It took about 10 minutes later for it to freeze. Now, whenever I boot up, it freezes a few seconds after login. I can boot recovery mode, but I don't know what to do from there. Heres some info I got from the recovery mode:

I've only installed Ubuntu 10.04 Server yesterday, and it was the first time I had ever used it. As far and I can tell I have my Apache server up and running. When I go to localhost I get the 'It works!' page.
I tried checking my port in Windows, after I have Xampp loaded up, it says the port is working fine, and the site loads up properly, which leads me to believe the problem not in my router.
I've installed ddclient and put the proper information in as far as I can see but it still doesn't work. I've been testing my port here: [url]

I have developed a site in localhost in my laptop. Here are the specs: Ubuntu 11.04, Joomla! 1.7, Db Ver: 5.1.54-1ubuntu4, PHP Ver: 5.3.5, Web Server Apache/2.2.17
This laptop is connected to a wi-fi network. Task: I like to see this local site from my laptop to other desktop computers in the same network. I understand that I need to do some changes in /etc/hosts what changes I need to do to be able to see my localhost site in the network.
Here's a strange one. On my internal network, there are two WinBlows boxes, both connected to my Linux Router/Firewall. Yesterday, I needed to download a file from http://www.freebsd.org. The 1st machine I tried, would not connect from FireFox. When I tried, on the 2nd, it connected immediately. So, I did all the usual "stuff" on the 1st one. Re-booted, as it's WinBlows, cleared browser cache, etc. etc. It still wouldn't connect. BTW, connecting to other web sites was no issue. Just FreeBSD.
So, just for grins, I ran a traceroute from both machines, and here's where it gets freaky. Here's the traceroute from the working machine code...
