Ubuntu Networking :: Internal Wireless Listed As Eth1?
Jul 13, 2010
I have an older laptop, a Toshiba Satellite Pro 6100 that has a switchable internal wireless connection. It will not connect to my router. I am using the 10,04 netbook remix. When I use lshw in terminal this is what I get:
*-network
description: Wireless interface
physical id: 1
logical name: eth1
[Code].....
Should it not be identified as wlan0? I know a whole lot about Ubuntu linux because I don't. I did a clean install over XP and am using this laptop as a learning tool for linux in hopes to divorce windows completely.

Im setting up a server thats connected to a large network. Now my external ip on the network is static and is 10.0.12.15. What I want is to create a dhcp network using the second port of my box. The first port eth0 goes to my network with the static ip 10.0.12.15 and my second port is connected to a switch with the static ip 192.168.12.1. Now dhcp works fine but none of the boxes that are connected to the internal ip cannot connect to the internet. Iv tried using squid and manual static ip routes. Im not using network manager or anything cause its a command line server.

have a dell Inspiron 1501 with ubuntu 10.0.4 I want to rename my wireless card from eth1 to wlan0 as I use conkyrc and it will not read my wireless strength or my ssid cuz it thinks it's a ethernet card and not wireless card. I know this for a fact because peppermint os my wireless card was wlan0 and it worked just fine.

My wireless suddenly no longer works either in Ubuntu 10.10 or Windows 7. Upon some investigation, I have found that my eth1 is no longer showing up as it used to.
What can I do to get my wireless back?
Right below is some current specs, while below that is an older set of specs from a while ago.
Code:
sef@sef:~$ lspci
00:00.0 Host bridge: Intel Corporation Mobile 4 Series Chipset Memory Controller Hub (rev 07)

I'm getting really tired of using windows, I love ubuntu but theres a big problem. I have a BTHomeHub2 and whats annoying is whenever I goto wireless connections there's only a bt home hub but its not my one. and I have tried connecting to hidden wireless network and nothing worked. I have a desktop pc with a usb plug in BT voyager that picks up the router but it will only find the one down the street not mine. It works fine when using Ethernet.

It's been ages since I've been on here I've been messing around with BackTrack. I've come back to Ubuntu but seem to be having some problems getting my wireless network thingy working. Here are the specs of my system. Any advice on fixing this would be very very apprciated.
02:06.0 CardBus bridge: ENE Technology Inc CB1410 Cardbus Controller (rev 01)
02:08.0 Ethernet controller: Intel Corporation 82562ET/EZ/GT/GZ - PRO/100 VE (LOM) Ethernet Controller Mobile (rev 01)
10:00.0 Network controller: Broadcom Corporation BCM4311 802.11b/g WLAN (rev 01)
On another note I'm trying to run debain I've got no startx on there or anything like that it's feeling very basic atm. I want to keep startx outta there but I can't connect to the Internet and run apt-get install to grab handy things.
I'm hoping whatever I am gonna do to solve this on Ubuntu will let me connect up to my wireless network with the internal network thingy. However if it doesn't I'm guessin I can just connect up physically to the router. Any tips on doing this from the command line?

What i wanted to do was use a linux machine with a wireless and wired interface to act as a router. The wireless interface would be the outside and get its IP via DHCP from the wireless my landlord provides. The wired connection would be for my local pcs. I understand it would be slow having multiple pcs using a single wireless gateway.

Disable internal wireless card & enable external? Can I do this really by network-manager or should I use some other program. If I plug-in external both are connected. If I disable internal by laptop button, I cannot enable wireless anymore in nm-applett (external on).

I have a toshiba a15 s127. it didn't have a wireless card so i ordered one and installed it myself. however, my computer is not seeing the wireless card and i don't know what driver i need because the card itself didn't come to me in a box, so i am not sure what brand it is. All i know is that it is an original part.
On another note, when i go to network settings and try to config my wireless settings, i do not know what number to put in the BSSID field. (thinking i use the wireless card's MAC address, but ?) and don't know if i use the wireless card's MAC adress or the wireless router's MAC address or the Modem's MAC address in the actual field for the MAC address. ( i know, i know, i sound totally clueless--well, i am!) {note: the wired network works fine.}
How do i get my computer to see the wireless card and how do i configure my computer once it does see the card?

What I want is quite simple, I have my PC running Linux Mint 5 (Elyssa), and I would like to connect it to both an internal network, which has a file/print server, another machine and will soon host a small cluster. I also have a wireless router connected to the tinterweb.
The thing is using my ethernet I want to connect to the internal network whilst simultaneously using my wireless to deal with the internet, I want to keep the internal network off the net as it really doesn't need to be connected. I can connect to my internal quite happily and also my wireless but not both at once.

I have a hardware device with two ethernet ports, eth0 and eth1 running Centos 5. Basically my goal is to forward packets from eth0->eth1 and eth1->eth0 as well as get a copy of these packets for analysis. If I set IP routing to do the forwarding then I won't get a copy of the packets for analysis.

I have a Linksys WPC300N v1 "Wireless-N Notebook Adapter" which uses the Broadcom 4329 chipset. Is there a way to troubleshoot and configure this card to use wl, b43, ssb? Preferrably via CLI. I have a couple years of CLI experience in Debian/derivatives (but only in my spare time ).
I have this card recognized and running adequately in Debian (and derivatives) using the 'wl' driver (sometimes supplied by debian.org, other times by broadcom.com). The one hint at a solution for this particular card/chipset I have found searching the OpenSUSE (SuSE for short?) forum points me to using ndiswrapper, which I've never used nor care to if it requires wine. I'm trying to ultimately connect to a b/g/n WPA-1 TKIP wlan.
lspci -v:
03:00.0 Network controller: Broadcom Corporation BCM43XG (rev 01)
Subsystem: Linksys Device 0058
Flags: fast devsel, IRQ 11
Memory at f4000000 (32-bit, non-prefetchable) [disabled] [size=16K]
lsmod | grep 'ssb' returns nothing (neither do 'b43' or 'wl') but 'pcmcia' returns:
pcmcia_core 41748 3 pcmcia,yenta_socket,rsrc_nonstatic
When configuring this card in Debian, I first plugged in the card which resulted in some hard disk activity but the LED was not lit. After installing the driver, the LED came on but no network. After configuring the network, it works 'adequately' (no roaming mode) using the wpa_supplicant package and is readily identified during init.
This is not mission critical by any means so I'm not in a hurry and willing to try almost anything. However, this is an old laptop so I'm even somewhat surprised that KDE4 is running as well as it is (KDE 3.5.10 runs quite well, which is more than I can say for the latest Gnome DE; xfce "screams" relatively). Dell Latitude C-610 PIII-M 1.2 GHz 512 KB cache 512 MB RAM (YaST2 reports this as a C-640 but this does not agree with the BIOS splash). The display is an ATI Radeon LY using the 'radeon' server (default). I don't do compositing here. ;-)

All rc.inet1 an rc.wireless scripts work well if a wireless extension is on wlan(x). My notebook has Intel Pro 2100 wireless adapter (the ipw2100 module). By the system the card is marked as eth1. If you have a look at rc.inet1(.conf) you see that by default an eth1 has no wireless extensions. how to set up my network.

I looked at the /etc/rc.d/rc.inet1.conf file it says something completely diff than the iwconfig. iwconfig is saying there is no wireless extensions on lo and eth1 but on eth0 all my info is there now on the conf file it says and ip address on eth2 and nothing on eth 0, or 1. does anybody know why it keeps jumping back and forth? one week its eth0 and maybe 2 months from now its eth1.

Neither of my wired network connections are listed in the network manager applet. I know that networking seems to be functional since I can ping local devices on the network. I can't resolve DNS names however. I suppose this is because network manager usually handles DNS? I've posted the outputs of various configurations below.
Code:
/etc/NetworkManager/nm-system-settings.cfg
# This file is installed into /etc/NetworkManager, and is loaded by
# NetworkManager by default. To override, specify: '--config file'
# during NM startup. This can be done by appending to DAEMON_OPTS in

I am running Ubuntu10.04 as a Virtual Machine in virtualbox.I changed my Networking settings from NAT to Bridged Adapter and manually assigned IP addressing information for eth0 in /etc/network/interfaces. For some reason doing /etc/init.d/networking restart didn't bring up the network interface. So i replaced the new /etc/network/interfaces file with the original and rebooted. Now I have eth1 in place of eth0. Under System>Preferences>Network Connections I have Auto Ethernet and eth0. However running ifconfig shows lo and eth1.

I'm having a strange problem. I'm using Ubuntu server 10.04 LTS and I want to setup a system with 2 network interfaces: eth0 and eth1. However eth1 does not come up at boot I have a screenshot of my /etc/network/interfaces file I don't see what is wrong. eth0 gets it's adress from DHCP eth1 gets a static adress. When i try to restart networking it quits with this message "don't seem to be have all the variables for eth1 inet" Can anyone point out what I'm doing wrong? if i do 'sudo ifconfig eth1 192.168.3.1 netmask 255.255.255.0 up' eth1 comes up

Why 'eth1' instead of 'usb0' ? Does behaviour of 'eth1' is same as 'usb0'?

I have a bit of a "unique" situation here. I have myself plugged into two networks - since we run two networks here at work (long story, we merged and never combined them due to two different companies) and want to block ALL internet access off eth1, and only have it off eth0. I only want traffic from 192.168.67.1-192.168.67.255 allowed on eth1, but everything allowed on eth0. Or is there a way for the internet/applications to be on eth0 instead of eth1? Would I use iptables or something?
