Just installed Fedora 15, using default options. Sound works through headphone jack but not thru pc speaker. (Machine has no external speakers.) Puzzling, since an identical hardware-wise machine with same /etc/modprobe.d files works fine.

I have checked the system and apparently it is SoundMax Integrated Digital Sound that I have on board. I have tried lots of things to get it going but to no avail. I have the Debian CD's. Is there a chance that it might be on these and I could re-install it?

I comes with about a minutes period. I resently find out that it came from the center-speaker. My speaker system is Logitech X-530 I have located the problem to center-speaker, but the snap-sound only disappear if I mute the center, not lower the input, in the GNOME ALSA Mixer. I have tried to disconnect the antenna to the analoge-TV-tuner. Has anyoe a similar problem, and a trick to fix it? I don't know if it's related to any recent update of the system?
I recently updated my computer Using 9.10 and I updated on the 14th. Before the update my sound was working great. No problems, but afterwards my sound is completely gone and under hardware when I click the sound option on the speaker icon I get nothing listed under hardware.

I have been using Ubuntu as my main OS on my desktops for a couple of years now. Started off with a HP with a Creative Labs XiFi soundcard, but am now using a Dell with a Creative Labs Audigy. Sound worked perfectly on the Dell since a clean install (about 7 months ago). I turned it on a week or so ago, and no sound! Even the little sound indicator in the notification area has gone.
View 8 Replies View RelatedI installed Xubuntu to a flashdrive using unetbootin. Since I only have a 2GB drive I installed Fluxbox instead of XFCE to save space. I install alsa-utils to try to get some audio going. aplay and speaker-test gets nothing at all. Both as sudo and a reg user. I have turn up the volume on everything in alsamixer. I believe the relevant drivers are loaded.

i've been looking around the forum and google, and i found a way to adjust the speaker and headphone volume manually in alsamixer. To adjust the headphone volume on alsamixer, i can raise or lower volume using the "Front" volume bar. To adjust the speaker volume, i raise or lower volume on the "Speaker" volume bar.
so, it's cool to know that i can do this manually, but i'm sure there's an option i can put in alsa-base.conf to automate this. i just can't seem to find that option...
anyway, i'm using Ubuntu 9.10 64-bit...and here's my alsa-base.conf file

I was trying to fix my audio, I had it coming out of my headphones and speakers at the same time. I was told to run this script to try to fix the problem but it only made it worse. I've attached screen shots showing that I now have no hardware showing.

I have a Acer emachine E732z laptop. I have installed debian squeeze gnome, but it is unable to play audio through laptop speaker. The (3.5mm)audio jack is working fine and I can play audio through it. I have also installed Linux mint, but no audio(in speaker and audio jack). There is no such problem in Windows7.

Banshee donwloads my video and audio podcasts but can't replay them within the program. I have to go manually (Dolphin) to the corresponding folders and replay them using mPlayer, which is not very handy / fiendly. I tried to install Miro, and so far has not worked (see post here)
View 1 Replies View RelatedI've been attempting to boot Ubuntu on my Mac Mini with absolutely no success. I tried 32-bit and 64-bit versions of 10.10 and 10.04. In all cases, I see the little keyboard and man at the bottom of the screen and then the screen goes black (i.e. my monitor stops receiving input).
My monitor is connect via the HDMI-to-DVI convertor, so is this a driver issue related to that?
All of my audio is working great now on Open Suse 11.2: MP3s, Skype,Flashplayer etc.all are working great. There is only one strange thing that is happening, when I plug in my headphones I get audio coming out of my laptop and my headphones! How can I get my audio to come out of my headphones only when I plug them in?

It's great, except that the videos won't display properly in Ubuntu Netbook Remix (Lucid) on my Dell Mini 10v.I've tried using Gstreamer (Banshee), Xine (Totem-xine), and MPlayer (GNOME MPlayer). These all should have worked, which makes me think something may be wrong either with the files themselves or my computer. Anyone have any idea what's going on here?FYI, when I pull up the Properties dialogue for one of the videos and look in the Audio/Video tab, it says:

So I did the update to Natty and it went pretty smoothly, with one exception. My rig has two sound cards in it: the integrated motherboard sound card (Intel HDA audio) that I don't use, and a Sound Blaster Audigy (the original Audigy 1) that I do use.
This setup has worked fine in Ubuntu for as long as I can remember, but after the upgrade to Natty it appears that GNOME no longer knows that the Audigy is the card that's in use. It insists on routing things like volume changes via gnome-volume-control to the motherboard. I can confirm this by watching the volume levels for each card in alsamixer while modifying them in gnome-volume-control; the levels move appropriately on the integrated card, and stay stuck on the Audigy.
What makes this bizarre is that it's not that the Audigy isn't recognized -- it's shown in the "Hardware" tab of Sound Preferences, and the system plays back audio just fine through the speakers connected to the Audigy. It's just that I can't change the volume on the sound through the panel applet anymore. Normally I would fix something like this by using the Hardware tab to switch from the one card to the other, but in this case when I make that change it doesn't stick -- if I close the Sound Preferences and then open it again, it's right back to being set to the integrated audio.
Maybe this is a PulseAudio issue with older Audigy cards? I have no idea.
I can change the volume with my speakers' volume knob and my keyboard's media keys, I suppose, but I'm so used to be able to change it via gnome-volume-control that not being able to feels bizarre. Has anyone else out there with add-on sound cards installed alongside motherboard audio experienced this?
Dell Inspiron with dual integrated mics. I get no sound when i try to record with the integrated webcam. I have everything turned all the way up in the mixer, ie: mic, capture, mux, etc but still no sound.

I bought a $400 Dell Vostro V130, and decided to put 10.10 netbook remix onto it. (Vostro V130 owners: after the reboot into the new system, there is no GUI. worse, after log in, a startx means the screen goes dead. fortunately, a power key event is still detected, so reboot still works cleanly. after I did a full apt-get update, apt-get dist-upgrade, and apt-get upgrade, the screen and remix worked.)
I would now like to increase the bass, systemwide (so that ..... gets sound that is a little better). the speaker icon on the top right gets me into sound preferences, but I do not see an equalizer.
I would like sound from mono sources to play in both speakers/earphones. How do I do this? Currently, it plays in only one side (which makes for an odd listening experience).I generally use banshee to play sound.

I have tried searching for a way to fix this but nothing came up that was able to help me. I can't think of any other information I could give,
I am on Ubuntu 10.10 and attempting to use my C-Media USB Headphone Set for use with Skype. It used to work at some point; now it just isn't doing anything at all. Ubuntu still recognises the hardware but no sound is coming out at all.
View 6 Replies View RelatedI have bought a laptop 2 months ago with pre installed windows7 and installed Ubuntu 10.04 64bit but still didnt get sound from the speakers. With headphones everything is OK . I have unmuted everything and searched forums but nothing so far. In windows I get speaker sound so it is not hardware problem. In alsamixer it appears I have 2 soundcards, one HDA -intel (chip Realtek ALC272) and a second one HDA nvidia ( a virtual one propably from my nvidia VGA ) that lacks controls . With lspci -v , it appears both use the same driver :Kernel driver in use: HDA IKernel modules: snd-hda-intel . Tried to disable the first one from bios but it didnt help I also tried sound adjustment in preferences -> sound and gnome-alsamixer, nothing From gnome alsamixer, when I mute speakers, the headphones also get mute so may be the system doesnt recognize speakers and headphones separately ? May be it has to do with config files but my linux knowledge is low

I've look at Alsa Mixer. There are two tabs (IDT ID 76c7 and ATI R6xx HDMI). I turned the second one off, since I don't have any HDMI sound output device connected to the computer. On the other tab, there are five sliders (Master, PCM, Front Mi, Line and Mic). They are all turned on, and the first two are at maximum volume.
It seems to me that Ubuntu is not recognizing whatever controls the rear speaker jack.
I want to be able to record the sounds coming through my soundcard with Audacity. How would i go about doing this?
View 1 Replies View RelatedI've been goign nuts trying to find the source of this niggling problem I've had since upgrading to Maverick. Whenever I'm watching anything I will get these short freezes of about half a second before he file continues playing. It will happen on average 3-4 times per hour on a video file.
For MP3 playback it's even worse, I'll get a stutter every couple of minutes, sometimes several in the same song. I reformatted completely and installed Maverick from scratch. For about a day I thought I had it sorted but then it started happening again.
I checked dmesg and there are a number of worrying lines like this:

The thing is that this problem occurs on all three of my hard drives (2 SATA, one IDE) so it's extremely unlikely all three have become damaged on the day I updated. Could this be a kernel problem of some sort? On an unrelated note all but one of my USB ports fails to recognise any portable music players.
I've got a final revision of the G4 Mac mini, the 1.5GHz model, dual booting 10.04 LTS and OS X. One of the issues I've had is that the internal speaker doesn't work under Linux, or so it's been reported on various post and sites. It turns out it's a simple matter of flipping some ALSA control options. With an ALSA mixer you must enable both the Speaker and the Headphone to get audio to play over the internal speaker. It will still play over the external headphones/speakers if they are still plugged in. I'm not sure if this is a problem with the ALSA, OSS, PCM or snd_powermac drivers or just something setup wonky in the configs. I've used both GNOME ALSA Mixer GUI and the alsamixer command line tool to do this. The alsamixer tool will mostly work in an X-term, as the F-keys don't pass though. It is fully functional on a console login. I also noticed that audio plays back per-user. When I switch from X to a console he sound is cut off, and when I get logged in as the same user the audio comes right back in.
