Feb 10, 2011

I've heard about the exhaustion of IPv4 addresses, and I roughly know what IPv6 is.how to check whether our hardware (network adapters, routers, etc.), and software (operating systems, browsers, etc.) are ready for the transition?

Fedora Networking :: FC15 IPV6 Wireless Router - No Longer Gets An IPv6 Address

Aug 31, 2011

I have been struggling to get FC15 to act as an IPv6 router for a while now, am sure I am missing something trivial.. The idea is that I have a ppp / adsl connection (this works fine), use the wireless card on my pc with hostapd and dhcpd to provide connections to other pcs (works fine), and radvd to delegate ipv6 addresses.

The issue seem to be that as soon as I turn on ipv6 forwarding (net.ipv6.conf.all.forwarding =1), the ppp connection no longer gets an IPv6 address. This means the router cannot ping any ipv6 address outside my network.

If I disable ipv6 routing, my router gets an IPv6 address on its ppp connection, and can ping things such as ipv6.google.com just fine, however (of course) no packets are forwarded from my network and radvd complains that forwarding is disabled.

Ubuntu Installation :: Transition From 9.04 To 9.10?

Mar 19, 2010

I have been dual booting between 9.04 and 9.10 for the last 4 or five months. I have had difficult transitions in the past, and I don't like to totally give up what is familiar right away, so I generally do a clean install on a separate partition, and I don't upgrade using the update manager.

My big question is regarding transitioning is is there a way to see what is installed on one system in a simple to print/download format that would make reinstallation through apt-get easier? A list command, or equivalent? With 10.04 coming out, I'd like to transition again, but I would like to do it with fewer (if possible) growing pains.

what is involved in upgrading from one major version of Debian to another. When your version is no longer supported, can you just get the DVDs for the current version and run the installer and it detects this is a previous version and only upgrades things as necessary?

General :: Run A Service After Networking Is Ready On Ubuntu?

Feb 21, 2011

I'm trying to start a service that depends on networking being started, whenever the computer is rebooted. Is this easily possible from an /etc/init.d script? I have tried creating a script here (conforming to the standards), but I'm really doubtful that it's even running on boot, let alone working. When I test it manually, it works. How can I make a script that runs on boot which runs after networking has been started?

Ubuntu Networking :: Wireless Device Not Ready?

Sep 6, 2010

I've tried to install Linux systems have been failures. Trying to make this work, trying to get on the right wagon, and it's frustrating as all get-out.

Installed netbook remix onto a HP Mini 1000 (1116NR?) and everything seems to be working alright, except no wireless networking. I tried a couple of things and now it shows "device not ready" instead of "disabled", so I figure I'm getting somewhere.

The device is:

Broadcom Corporation BCM4312 802.11b/g (rev 01)

I want in. This is my 3rd try over the years of running Linux and I always hit snags like this that I can't fix because I've never gotten to play with it enough to learn what I'm doing and generally don't have a 2nd computer like I do right now.

Ubuntu Networking :: Wireless - Device Not Ready - Firmware Missing

Jul 23, 2011

I thought I'd give Ubuntu 11.04 (Natty Narwhal??) a try on an old Dell Latitude D600 I had lying around. Install went great. Everything seems to run nice and slick.. except one thing.. the wireless is giving me the old "Device not ready (firmware missing)" So I can only use my lappy on a leash.

It's a pretty common Broadcom NIC... and I've tried running the System / Administration / Additional Drivers and nothing comes up.

It seems to me I need a driver someplace...I don't know where or how to get it installed.

Ubuntu Networking :: No Ipv6 Ip From ISP?

Nov 29, 2010

I have Ubuntu 10.10 installed on my laptop. My ISP natively supports ipv6, but since last weekend, I do not get an ipv6 ip. When I use a live cd however, I do get an ipv6 ip. For as far as I can see, all settings (/etc/network/interface and the settings in network manager) are exactly the same.

Output of ifconfig:

Code:
eth0 Link encap:Ethernet HWaddr XX:XX:XX:XX:XX:XX
inet addr:XXX.XXX.XXX.XXX Bcast:XXX.XXX.XXX.XXX Mask:XXX.XXX.XXX.XXX
inet6 addr: XXXX::XXXX:XXXX:XXXX:XXXX/64 Scope:Link
UP BROADCAST RUNNING MULTICAST MTU:1500 Metric:1

[Code].....

EDIT: is there a way to let the netwerk be automatically configured as happens during installation? It would be nice to start with a clean and new set of network config files as there were just after I installed Ubuntu on my system, without a full reinstall of my system.

Fedora Networking :: Wlan0 Link Not Ready ?

Nov 1, 2009

The past couple days I've been attempting to use ndiswrapper to connect to my home network wirelessly and have run into a slight problem. I'm able to install ndiswrapper (of course), and install the driver. ndiswrapper -l comes up good, showing the driver is in place for my netgear wg311v3 card.

modprobe ndiswrapper I am able to get to work without errors, except, when i type ndiswrapper -ma it writes another file to /etc/modeprobe.d/ndiswrapper causing the deprecation error.

The card scans for networks, and I'm able type in my encryption key.

However it doesn't connect. | grep comes up with the error that the wlan0 link is not ready.

I think I've also been able to determine that the configuration I've put in to the card through the network manager is not actually configured.

Anyone know how I could possibly connect with the card.. It seems it should be able to work. alias wlano is also in place.

OpenSUSE :: LibreOffice Impress - Adding Custom Effects In Text Transition

Jun 29, 2011

I have an extremely urgent support request! I need to create a presentation by Friday. I have selected the template, the elements etc. But, I have to add transition between each text Outlines and each page. It's very easy to add page transition effects. But, so far I have not managed to add automatic custom effect in text transitions (with click).

For example, let's say that I have in page the following format:
Text 1
Text 2
Text 3
I want to present the elements as Text 1, then I click the mouse, Text 2 click the mount Text 3 etc. In MS PowerPoint this is done via Master pages.

I tried the same on OO/LibreOffice 3.3: Edit the Slide Master, modified the fonts etc. Then, I tried to add a custom animation in each element. But with no success.
First of all, it seems that any effect is named: Outline Text 1: Click to...
Second: Even If I accept the fact than there seems to be no way to add an effect for Outline 2 etc, I save and show the presentation. But, instead of a page transition then a blank page that requires a click from me to present the 1st element, I see ALL elements. So, is it possible to do that in OO?

Fedora Networking :: Wireless Networks - Device Not Ready

When the install was completed, I was surprised to find the wireless not working. When I click on the NetworkManager icon at the bottom right corner, I see "Wireless Networks" Under that it says "device not ready" and it is greyed out so it cannot be click on.

Running lspci -vnn returned
