Ubuntu Networking :: Export Stored WiFi Keys From Hardy?
Jan 24, 2011
I am running hardy on my laptop and was thinking its time I upgraded. One thing that's been holding me back is I have a number of wifi keys stored in there somewhere and can't remember what they were exactly. Are they exportable?

I have a Hardy which last night asked for updates that included kernel changes. Today I find I no longer can connect using WIFI and have no sound. The GUIs are just not there and it's as if the controllers themselves have disappeared. For example lshw -C network reveals a Cisco Airon Wireless, but it's not listed as a wireless device, just as network controller. Can anyone advice me on how to approach this? Is it possible to revert changes or something?

I have a lot of passwords and keys for FTP and SSH connections that I need to keep. When using the "Passwords and Encryption Keys" the Export menu is sensitive/disabled.
I need to back them up, amongst other things, as I'll be re-partitioning my hard drive which will most likely result in a fresh install of Ubuntu.

I've had issues with the later versions of Ubuntu, so in an effort to road-test Firefox 3.5 on Hardy I'd like to change my Karmic/Hardy dual boot to a Hardy/Hardy dual boot, and follow the instructions in [URL] to put the Mozilla build of 3.5 on the new installation.
I can't see any reason why a Hardy/Hardy dual-boot shouldn't work, but does anyone know of any issues with this I might not be aware of?

I have machine that I used to VNC to on my network with Remote Desktop Viewer from my Fedora 12. When I first connected I checked the checkbox that I wanted to store the pw. Now the pw on the other machine has changed but Remote Desktop Viewer does not ask for a new password, it just gives me a black screen, like I am connected but I can't see anything. I'd like to know if anyone knows where this pw data is stored on the system so I can start fresh. I already tried uninstalling Remote Desktop Viewer and installing it again.

I am running Ubuntu 8.04 (Hardy Heron), Kernel 2.6.24-24. Because everything is working fine, I would be very reluctant to upgrade to 8.10 or later. However I now have a need to use a Mobile Broadband USB connection to the Internet. I understand that this requires Network Manager 7.something or later.
I got the network-manager (0.8-1) binary from debian. Anyone got any experience of whether I should be able to install it succesfully? I thought I would ask before wrecking my system. (Synaptic seems to only allow me version 0.6.6)

I configured my Xubuntu laptop to work with my Netgear Wireless router to connect to the Internet. I was able to connect, and downloaded Hardy updates of 184 MB. After installation of the updates, the system prompted me to restart. The Wireless network is not working since then. Tried reconfiguring, but to no avail. The proprietary drivers for my wireless network card have been downloaded and installed... remember, it worked well enough download the updates! Posting this from my Windows partition using the same wireless network A previous thread [URL]...k+Hardy+update) with the same issue seems to have hit a roadblock...

After days of trying to get a TL-WN321G usb driver to install in Hardy Heron, it finally arrived in the proper place. In trying to then set it up, I got as far as enabling roaming mode, and the icon showed that the system had made a connection to my Belkin-ASDL-G router. I launched Firefox, which momentarily showed Google home page(where I'd been last when using a wired lan), then it changed to "Server not found".
I've tried rebooting several times, but it remains the same. Each time the dongle led lights up, the icon shows it trying to make a connection to the correct network, but it fails to do so.
On another pc on this network, I looked in the router settings for DHCP client list, and this client has now vanished from the list where it had been showing before. Possible complications may come from a setting in the client list that still shows up with the same host name, generated by an earlier attempt with a different usb dongle.
So two questions - do I need to find out how to remove the old client first, if so how ? And secondly, does anyone recognize the symptoms and can offer a solution ?

I am having trouble setting up FamilyShield on an Ubuntu 8.04 system. The setup instructions on this (opendns.com) site are for newer versions of Ubuntu. Network Manager settings are different in 8.04 and don't correspond to the instructions. However, given the age of this computer, it cannot run a newer version of Ubuntu, and 8.04 is an LTS supported until 2011,
Complicating matters is I am living as a guest, so do not have the option of setting FamilyShield on the router. It must be done on my computer.
Here's what I've tried:
System->Administration->Network
go to DNS Tab and add the FamilyShield DNS numbers. BTW, there are two DNS numbers from the internet owner's ISP (Roadrunner) automatically in here already, along with "socal.rr.com" in the Search Domains field. If I try to delete them, they reappear when I reboot. If I add FamilyShield DNS numbers here, either along with, or in place of the ones that automatically appear here, they do not take, and on next boot FamilyShield DNS numbers are gone, but "socal.rr.com" DNS and search domains reappear.
I've also tried:
Code:
sudo gedit /etc/dhcp3/dhclient.com
and added following line at the end:
Code:
prepend domain-name-servers 208.67.222.123,208.67.220.123
When I reboot the system, I'm still using the assigned DNS numbers from "socal.rr.com".
I was able to try a newer version of Ubuntu (on a different machine) on this network, and it worked fine with the setup instructions. So this appears to be a problem specific to how Ubuntu version 8.04 handles DNS number changes.

I have been using Hardy for about 3yrs now and using dialup to connect to the internet. I have a 64bit ASUS with a nVidia ethernet interface........I have just recently switched to cable broadband with a wired connection direct to the eth0 port. I have another computer running puppy linux in which the broadband works. hence this is how I am typing this now. I have connected my ubuntu machine to the cable and the network admin shows a wired connection but will not let me browse on the net with any browser. Not really sure how I got puppy to find it, but it did.
I have used the network manager on both machines with one connecting and the other not. I know there a newer ubuntu's out but I really do like Hardy and want to keep it, but without internet connection other than dialup it seems a bit lame. I am not above using command line options as I use wodim and wget all the time, so my question is.

The application works rather well for most part, it generates the dh, ta, certs and config for the server and i can activate the VPN connection just as planed and clients can connect to the port so that works as well. The problem comes when i try to use the "Export" button to generate a config for the client and a key (cert) for the user.If i'm not mistaken that's what the export button is ment to be used for.

My laptop has an internal wireless device and a button to turn it on/off, but since it has bad reception I use an external USB wireless adapter. The problem is that if I turn the internal wireless device off using the button, it also turns the USB wireless adapter off.Is there anyway to use the killswitch (the button) only for the internal wireless device? This only started to happen in Ubuntu 10.04.

I have only had a few weeks worth of experience with linux, so I'm probably considered a newbie at this but I felt like giving it a shot. I just configured my new Toshiba Satellite A505-S6969 to jaunty. Most of the transition is going well but I'm stuck with a few issues, one of which is getting my wifi to work. I have looked in /etc/sysconfig/network and /etc/sysconfig/network-scripts/ifcfg-etho.I've tried to grep in quite a few directories/files for GATEWAY but haven't found my answer.Running RH54.

I'm trying to get experience in creation of virtual Fedora 9 x64 cluster using Ubuntu 9.04/Virtual Box 2.2.2. I have a head node with 1 G of RAM and two slave nodes with 512 M each. There's internal networking in Virtual Box with DHCP, so my nodes have addresses:
192.168.15.100/24 (Slave0.localdomain), 192.168.15.101/24 (Slave1.localdomain), 192.168.15.102/24 (Head.localdomain). Ping is OK. I've added the following string to /etc/exports file: /usr/share 192.168.15.0/24(rw) And then used /usr/sbin/exportfs -a But showmount -e 192.168.15.102 entered at slave node shows nothing. What's wrong? May be I have to somehow start nfsserver, but how?

I have a DHCP/PXE server behind a firewall. It mounts partitions on the file server on the corp. network on the other side of the firewall. Every box that PXEs also mounts partitions on the main file server.
I was hoping I could change them to mount from the DHCP/PXE server, so that server could cache and cut down on the requests through the firewall, as well as the sessions that the firewall must track. But it seams a little strange to try to export directories that are simply NFS mounts on another server already.

I am running (K)Ubuntu Lucid 10.04 64bit on a Dell Latitude E6400, WiFi Card Intel 5100. Never had any problems with networking. Up to about 2 weeks ago. I do realize there have been quite a few posts with this network adaptor, but non really described the problem I have here.
What happens is that suddenly the WiFi LED on the computer stops blinking, the WiFi connection gets disrupted, and the device is not recognized anymore when checking ifconfig. Only cold restarting the machine helps then... it will work for a while (between 1 and 20 minutes) and then crash again.
On Windows 7 the card works perfectly fine. With Ubuntu 11.04 in Live CD mode I have the same effects (connection crashes after a while). Also tried booting an older kernel, no success.
My exact hardware:
