Ubuntu Networking :: Error Activating Driver: 'B43legacy' For BCM4303 On 10.10
Mar 27, 2011
I'm new to Ubuntu as of yesterday, and know very little of Linux in general. I tried RedHat for a while about 10 years ago and remember almost nothing from the experience. I'm up and running with everything working great with one exception -- my wireless. The error: Contents of jockey.log as suggested: -Sorry, it's long. Not sure what (if anything) is relevant.
Need to install b43 driver to use monitor mode on my card - versions are compatible, I ran Code: sudo apt-get install b43-fwcutter As told, but instructions end there. Pressed yes to download and extract firmware. Do I need to activate this driver somehow?
Info on wireless card: Code: tnt@Artemis:~$ lspci -vnn | grep 14e4 0c:00.0 Network controller [0280]: Broadcom Corporation BCM4312 802.11b/g [14e4:4315] (rev 01) Broadcom STA driver is activated in the hardware drivers manager.
I have the Dell Latitude D400 with the B4306 PCI card. I followed the instructions in the stickies on this forum and downloaded and installed the firmware. Still could not get the wifi card to work. Here is the read-out:
[Code]....
I am just beginning with Linux - please take pity on me.
I just installed Ubuntu lucid beta2, but I'm having no luck getting my wireless card (Asus WL-103b cardbus) to work. It uses the b43legacy driver. I have also installed the correct firmware. This card used to work if I'm not mistaken.
Can't get my WiFi to work on my HP. My WiFi chip is bcm4303 (rev. 2) this is a new thread from http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=1400427&page=4 ) So, I reinstalled Ubuntu (fresh install) Activated the Broadcom b43leagacy Wireless driver. When rebooting, the WiFi LED on the On/Off switch blinks.
I've been using ubuntu fine for a while when I decide to activate my nvidia graphics card. After rebooting, however, I hit nothing but a black screen. I've searched the nets and others have seemed to solve the problem after hitting alt+ctrl+f1/f2 and editing some files after that, but that doesn't work for me. Booting into recover console gives me nothing but a long stream of white words before it runs to --> done. and then it goes back to a black screen. Running from Live CD I can't access my ubuntu files.
This must be a repost, but I still want to ask, how do I activate the wireless on my laptop? I've been given advice about this a while back, but forgot. Just reinstalled a fresh copy of 9.10
I have a strange issue that I cannot put my finger on. Recently,I installed a new Ubuntu 10.04 server. No extra software yet, apart from openssh-server. The wired connection (eth1) works fine. I then added a wireless card with chipset p54pci, which appears to work with the wext driver. Configured /etc/wpa_supplicant, and /etc/network/interfaces as well:
This is wpa_supplicant:
Code:
This is interfaces:
Code:
After a reboot the machine comes up with both NICs active.
If I do a ssh from another Ubuntu machine to this machine (to 192.168.2.100, so the wired address) it takes about 30 seconds before I get the login as: prompt.
If I change the interfaces file so that wlan0 is not started (I comment out the line auto wlan0, and reboot), connecting from another machine with ssh alsmost instantly gives me te login prompt.
I tried switching the order of both NICs in the interfaces file. Also tried changing the sshd config file so that it only listens on the wired ip address. Both did not help.
Does anyone have a clue why logging in with ssh from another machine is very much slower in response with wlan0 activated than without ?
I got an older computer from a friend who had Windows XP as an operating system. I installed Ubuntu 10.04 on it, but cannot get the wireless controller to work. It is a BCM4303. Yes, it is an old one. So far I have spend virtually nothing on the computer. Ubuntu installed without a hitch as far as I can tell with the exception of this WIFI problem. I have searched the forums but got no matches. Perhaps I am using the wrong key words. Can anyone offer a solution or point me in the general direction.
I'm fairly new to Ubuntu. I'm struggling to enable wireless on my Acer Travelmate 2480. Wireless was turned on and off in Windows with a button which does nothing in Ubuntu.I think I must be missing drivers or something, but how do I get them if I can't connect to the internet?
I am trying to get a netgear wireless usb card to work correctly. I have installed ndiswrapper and gotten the correct drivers installed. The device does show up with lsusb. I can't seem to figure out how to get the wireless card to show up in gnome to start using it.
Update: the ndiswrapper module does load but when i run ndiswrapper -l it just shows the driver installed but, it is not showing my wireless usb card (0846:9020).
I need to activate ftp service in my linux based router which is disabled by default following is my box information:distrbution: Linux version 2.4.24-uc0-iDirect0 (root@s1100bld) (gcc version 3.3.2) #1 Thu
I'm having real problems with Wifi and it's putting me off Linux.I'm running Ubuntu 9.10 (no Windows at all on the machine) on an Asus L5800C with Broadcom bcm4303 Wifi.I can't get Wifi to work.Pressing Fn F2 has no effect.
Then reboot and your wireless should work. And it did bring up Wifi, although the Wifi indicator on the machine, that worked under Windows XP, did not come on.However, after a minute or so the Wifi stopped working.I looked in the messages log and have an entry that says kernel: b43legacy-phy0: Radio hardware status changed to DISABLED.
Is there an easy way (or even a hard way) to activate wireless network capability from the command prompt? I want to do this because I like to use the fvwm window manager, but I also like wireless! (In fvwm wireless networking doesn't start up automatically.)
I tried just starting the wireless by...
Code:
Despite the promising messages, wireless didn't work.
I am in kolkata zone, just bought the 3g sim and teracom-lw272 device. The problem is, its not activating regularly(its detecting, but some time, after Network Manager starts working, its failing ), and once its failed to get enabled, its unmounting the device all together....so i have to physically detach the usb device and reinsert. I have installed a rpm file that installed a script VKGEther....a small script file...but nothin else. Also, speed is very little(in [URL], it shows 0.1Mbps d/l speed) here some more info:
I've configured the device for my network's settings in YaST's Network Settings tool. Is the card turned off by the kill switch? Where do I find the kill switch?
I am trying to install this driver in ubuntu 10.10 for a week. I am getting this error when I type {sudo make}
cimi@cimi-pc:/etc/2010_0831_RT3070_Linux_STA_v2.4.0.1_DPO$ sudo make make -C tools make[1]: Entering directory `/etc/2010_0831_RT3070_Linux_STA_v2.4.0.1_DPO/tools' gcc -g bin2h.c -o bin2h make[1]: Leaving directory `/etc/2010_0831_RT3070_Linux_STA_v2.4.0.1_DPO/tools' /etc/2010_0831_RT3070_Linux_STA_v2.4.0.1_DPO/tools/bin2h cp -f os/linux/Makefile.6 /etc/2010_0831_RT3070_Linux_STA_v2.4.0.1_DPO/os/linux/Makefile make -C /lib/modules/2.6.35-23-generic-pae/build SUBDIRS=/etc/2010_0831_RT3070_Linux_STA_v2.4.0.1_DPO/os/linux modules make[1]: Entering directory `/usr/src/linux-headers-2.6.35-23-generic-pae' make[2]: *** No rule to make target `/etc/2010_0831_RT3070_Linux_STA_v2.4.0.1_DPO/os/linux/.c', needed by `/etc/2010_0831_RT3070_Linux_STA_v2.4.0.1_DPO/os/linux/.o'. This is the last driver in ralink website. The built-in driver works but don't recognize my chipset and i wanna install this driver. My URL card is levelone wua-0603 usb [URL].
Just now I have install Fedora 10 on my desktop computer and network card is appearing as "eth1", manually i have set the IP and subnet mask and dns setting also i have checked the option starts automatically when computer starts, but after restarting my network is not activated.
It has been haunting me for weeks and I haven't been able to fix it so far: When I installed the wireless driver 43XX series on my laptop using a wired internet, I saw the wireless network for a while and after I rebooted my system, My kernel(31) got corrupted and I got error "kernel Panic (and some sync error)",Thus I started using an older kernel(14),Now When I install wireless driver or mobile broadband driver(wvdial), they get vanished after the reboot and my mobile device modem isn't detected. But they are installed in my system(as shown by synaptic package manager but doesn't seemt to work) I desperately want to use mobile broadband.
How To: Uninstall/Remove Old Wireless Driver to make way for New Driver (RTL8191SE)?
Here's the new driver:
I have been having trouble with my wireless connection intermittently disconnecting and reconnecting repeatedly (sometimes every couple of seconds). I posted a thread about this here on Ubuntu Forums titled: Ubuntu 10.45 & NetworkManager Applet 8.0: Connects & Disconnects Frequently.
Can someone tell me how to correct the "Invalid module format"? I hope that correcting the "Invalid module format" error, I will not have the "Unknown symbol in module" error.
Note: I am using wlan1 for this module as I previously am online with the wlan0 network. The same error occurs if I use ./wlan0up.
I had a problem with using ndiswrapper to install Windows driver on Netgear WN511TA wireless adapter card. Problem solved by replacing Netgear WN511TA with Airlink101 AWLC6080 PCMCIA wireless adapter to work in my triple-boot XP Pro/Ubuntu Karmic/openSUSE 11.2 Toshiba laptop and using the latest Linux driver version 2.3.0.0 dated January 29, 2010 from Ralinktech site. I followed driver instruction in a Ubuntuforums tutorial (Howto: Ralink RT2860(m) PCI(e) RT2860...on Intrepid).
I am wondering if I can use the same Linux driver (RT2860sta) for openSUSE 11.2 on my triple-boot XP Pro/Karmic/openSUSE laptop, ie. copying over instead of building and compiling driver from source again, because I don't quite understand the build instruction given in the README file of Ralink's Linux driver file. Specifically, I don't know how to "define the GCC and LD (?) of the target machine, and define the compiler flags CFLAGS(?), modify your need (?)", etc. I already have gcc, cpp and make installed on the Ubuntu and openSUSE parts of my machine. I did try ndiswrapper in openSUSE but it doesn't work for the Windows version of the latest Ralink driver (error: invalid driver rt2860.inf).
I have Centos5.4 loaded on a late 2008 MACBOOK Pro and would like to get wireless working. I've attempted to download the broadcom driver and create a driver module with no luck.
I'd like to create a bash script that's mapped to hotkey to bring up my Empathy contact list if it's on a separate workspace, mimized to tray, or hidden and hide the window if it's focused.I think I need to use something like wmctrl -l and wmctrl -R, but I can't figure out how to get the window status (minimized to tray, different workspace, etc.)
I want to do is use a partition other than the one the OS is installed on for my data files. Before I installed 10.10 I set up a separate partition for this purpose and formatted it as ext 4. It shows under Places as a "131GB Filesystem". It contains a folder called "lost+found.
When I try to set up folders/directories to use for data using Ctrl+Shift+n nothing happens. The File menu does not have the option to create new directories. I cannot drag and drop anything onto it. The properties shows root as the owner. how to make the partition usable or direct me to where the instructions might be? After going through 400+ pages of a book on using the command line, I haven't found anything to deal with this.
