Ubuntu Networking :: Cisco WUSB600N Rev 1 - Does Not Detect 5GHz Networks At All

There was quite a bit of threads about this card, and getting it to work mostly boils down to downloading Ralink's propitiatory driver. The card uses RT2870 chipset, and Ubuntu comes with two drivers that are supposed to support it, neither of which seems to work with WUSB600N. One of the drivers included with Ubuntu detects networks operating on 2.4GHz but fails to connect to them, but does not detect 5GHz networks at all.
I was wondering if anybody knows what is so special with this card that it doesn't work with drivers that are shipped with Ubuntu? The card works nicely with Ralink's driver, but it's a bit annoying to have to recompile it on every kernel update (would be much nicer if it worked with stock drivers).
I've managed to install my WUSB600N on 10.10 (which was NOT easy!!) and I can see all my local wireless networks, but I can't connect - it attempts to connect then disconnects after what I guess is timing out.I know that you can place these cards in broadcast mode (I think), where you can see networks but not connect. Considering that to get this card working I had to attempt about four different sets of instructions to get this far, could I have placed the card in a broadcast mode? I've been at this for about three days, and unless I go out an buy another network card (I'm currently connected using it through windows) then I'm going to have to give up on Linux, which I really don't want to
I've two networks (network 1 in the apartment, network 2 in the basement/server room) I would like to build a vpn connection between the two networks. In networks 1 I have a 24h running PC/Firewall/Debian Server. For network 2 I would like to buy a RVS4000. Is it possible to connect the two objects (Debian and Cisco)?
I am running Ubuntu 9.10 on an ASUS eeepc 1000HE, and my wireless card, RaLink RT 2860, is failing to recognize any wireless networks. It was working fine this morning, until I accidentally hit Fn F2, disabling the wireless card. I hit Fn F2 again to reenable it, but it no longer will detect any wireless networks (and other computers in the household do recognize them). I have a WLAN Driver Azure Wave AW-NU222 Wireless LAN Card in my Medion computer.
After installing Ubuntu it seems to detect the wireless networks in my area. However, when I try to connect to my network, it tries for several minutes and then times out with no error message. I have set up the credentials and also tried removing the encryption (WPA-PSK) from the network itself, but it still doesn't connect.
Connect via an Ethernet cable is fine, and I know that the network is good because I can connect via my Windows Laptop and various other wireless devices.
I suspect it's due to drivers, but I'm having trouble downloading a driver which I can try and install using Ndiswrapper. The Medion website just a windows executable when I try and download the driver specific to my machine when I really need the .inf file.
I just downloaded and installed ubuntu netbook 10.4 on my samsung n130 netbook...love it, except for one little thing: it won't detect any wireless networks. this is how i connect to the internet at home so using an ethernet cable is not an option.i tried putting in "ifconfig wlan0 up" in the terminal, but all it gives me is "permission denied".
I have a broadcom 4322 with the broadcom-wl driver on Fedora 11. It worked the first time I used it, and since then is unable to detect any networks. I've tried reinstalling the driver, and it still does not work. Any suggestions?
Right so I just bought an Acer TimelineX with a Broadcom BCM43225 BCM43225 802.11b/g/n WiFi card. With this card I am not able to detect any wireless networks and after googling around I found out other people have had similar issues. I installed fedora 12 for the first time last night, and I have been having a lot of trouble with my wireless. It is a Dell 1395 WLAN mini. I followed the instructions from [UR], but I still can't see any networks. Moreover, when I boot into windows I can no longer detect any wireless networks.
I have just downloaded Ubuntu 10.04 Desktop version and browsed the trial version without installing it onto my laptop. OK, I love it. I have decided to get rid of Windows 7 and install Ubuntu as the sole OS. However, I have got three questions before I do it.
1) Ubuntu couldn't detect any wireless networks. Was that because I run only the trial version? I am really concerned about it as I am a frequent Internet visitor. 2) Ubuntu preloaded movie and audio players couldn't play anything from my external HD. I got warning that plugin MPEG-2 System Stream demuxer was missing and couldn't be found (as I couldn't access Internet, I guess). I suppose I will be able to download the missing plugins. This leads to question 3) Once I download the necessary missing plugins, what am I supposed to do with them? How to install them?
I am trying to configure my android phone (rooted Eris running kaossfroyo 2.2) to be used as a midi controller. Which I am having enough trouble with as it is but it has raised an annoying issue that occurred a month ago when I used the phones tethering network with my laptop. After connecting the laptop to the phones network (either tether, or an Ad-hoc network created using the network manager) I am unable to switch to other networks. In other words when I'm done with the phone-laptop connection I cannot connect my laptop to my home network! When I click on the other network connection I can see that it is attempting to connect in the upper right corner of the desktop (the network icon) but it will not make the connection.
What happens is that the network indicator will make the little circle graphic as if it is trying to connect but it never will display the other circle as green indicating that it has connected. but when I disconnect from the home network that is not connecting I will get a message underneath that will say that ad-hoc network disconnected! If I am switching from the android tether it will say Android-Tether disconnected etc. Even though when I click on network manager it shows that I am attempting to connect to the home network (labeled LIBERTY in my case) upon disconnection it shows the ad-hoc or tether connection being disconnected.
I am absolutely baffled by this! The issue persists even after deleting the ad-hoc connection from the wireless settings tab!!! I would speculate that for some reason the laptop is attempting to connect to the previous ad-hoc connection despite me wanting it to connect to LIBERTY. I am very confused and hope someone can lead me in the right direction.
I've read many threads about the Linksys WUSB600n (both versions), and tried the suggested solutions to no avail in 32-bit Ubuntu 10.04. Compiling my own drivers, adding items to the blacklist, and even a clumsy driver transplant from 32-bit 9.10 have all failed. I've tried the same in a clean install of 10.04, but no connection is made and a prompt comes up every few minutes asking for the password. I've used the included rt2870 driver in 9.10 without problems. My wireless-N network uses WPA2 personal encryption, which has never given me issues. The usb id of my adapter, per lsusb, is ID 1737:0071
I think lightning may have killed it. It was working fine. Now I cant get it recognized no matter what I do. It also quit working in Win XP where I never had a problem with it because it had its own connection software.

i cant connect to my wireless network... im using karmic. Ive searched and found quite a lot of threads but arent sure where to start. I have a Linksys wusb600n, and are trying to connect to my network. It detects the network fine but doesnt connect.
I have a WUSB600N v2 and it is working great for me. Here is all you have to do. Go here and download the RT3572USB driver [URL] The file you download is called 2009_1222_RT3572_LinuxSTA_V2[1].3.0.0.tar.bz2 expand it with the command "tar xjf 2009_1222_RT3572_LinuxSTA_V2[1].3.0.0.tar.bz2"
open the file os/linux/config.mk and edit the following lines: Change HAS_WPA_SUPPLICANT=n to HAS_WPA_SUPPLICANT=y and Change HAS_NATIVE_WPA_SUPPLICANT_SUPPORT=n to HAS_NATIVE_WPA_SUPPLICANT_SUPPORT=y Next edit the file common/rtusb_dev_id.c and add the USB ID of the card to it. {USB_DEVICE(0x1737,0x0079)}, /* WUSB600Nv2 */

If you have added the USB device to any other drivers following other threads you will want to either remove that line and recompile those drivers OR black list those drivers. After doing the above this NIC is working great for me in Ubuntu 9.10 and getting N speeds.
I was wondering if anyone figured out the WUSB600N ver1 with Ubuntu 10.4 yet. It's the chipset rt2870sta which works perfectly on Ubuntu 9.10 after blacklisting the other RT2x modules but following the same steps as I would 9.10 on the new release of Ubuntu won't allow me to connect via wifi at all. I went back to 9.10 for now but was hoping this would be resolved soon.
I hate kernel upgrades, at least on my laptop. Every time I upgrade, I have to recompile the driver for my Linksys WUSB600N adapter or it doesn't work. Usually, this is no problem, as I have the driver saved in a .tar file and all I have to do is 'make' and 'make install' and it works. BUT... This time, I tried that, and I get this:

The problem: I do see all available networks. So I guess... it somehow works. Anyway, problem is that it does not connect successfully to my network. I click on it - it asks my password. I enter it and click 'Connect'. Nothing, except that network icon is started to like spin around (trying to connect, I guess), happens. After few minutes, it asks for password.... again. I enter it and all starts from the beginning. Its like a loop! Note: I don't have any other things installed except linux-firmware-nonfree_1.9_all.deb and, don't know how successfully, but RT3572USB 2.5.0.0.

Im having another problem with my wireless in Maverick, Im at my wits end with this thing and dont know what to do next. I followed Dev0's from this thread.And now when ever I start my computer I get a notification that says "Linksys C" connected. Then only a few seconds later it says Disconnected and then from then on every few minutes the Password prompt pops up and then I enter my password and then it just keeps going in that cycle until I click cancel.
I managed to find an older version of the rt3572 driver to compile to get this dongle to work fine, and it did. After that I added "module rt3572sta" (or whatever it is, not on Ubuntu to check now) to the end of /etc/modules. However, when I boot up Ubuntu, most of the time the driver won't load. If I run 'modprobe rt3572sta' from the terminal, I get this message -
my wireless adapter(WUSB600N) doesn't run when I log in. The driver is loaded on start-up but the green light is not on the adapter. I have to physically disconnect the adapter and plug it back in to get it recognised and it works fine afterwards

so i have no way to get connected to the internet, what is that error cannot stat `rt3572sta.ko': No such file or directory, I think thats why i can make the wireless card work.
I could use Wireless network. I could see several different networks in my range. Then suddenly the network stoppedworking, and I can no longer see any networks under "Wireless networks".The Wired networks works fine.I tried upgrading ubuntu, but nothing changed. Just to confirm, I rebooted the computer in Windows Vista (Dual boot) andconfirmed that Wireless worked fine there. No hardware problem then.The suggestions I have found on this and other forums suggest looking at the output from iwconfig and ifconfig. But since I'm a n00b at Ubuntu I don't know what to make of it.
