I connect in Windows 7 just fine. I got University of Texas at Dallas.
I'd rather use Ubuntu all the time instead of booting up Windows. Plus my Windows is pretty slow.
Is there anyway for me to get around this?
I'm having trouble connecting to the internet here at A&M through Ubuntu. It's working fine on Windows 7. I tried using manual connection settings and copying the addresses over from windows 7 and it got a connection, but no internet, and i couldn't ping anything except localhost.

Now, the screen at my university pc is using an higher resolution than the one of my laptop, so I can see only part of the screen. How can I address this? so that I can see full screen? Also, RDP works quicker than VNC, is there any setting I could use to speed up VNC?
View 5 Replies View RelatedI am facing an annoying problem with the wireless network of my university.The network is open, doesnt have wpa/wep, and once connected when requesting any page in the browser it gets redirected to a login page. Basically any pc running windows works fine, however if the os is linux-based than the pc connects just fine, it gets an ip, but the login page never loads. I have tried several browsers, several machines, even my android smartphone is locked out as well as all my friends running ubuntu, arch linux and others linux distros.The technical support never answered my email, and it's now 3 weeks that we are all without internet.

Not only that, when I tried to fix it I managed corrupt the dual boot I had and now cannot login into either Windows 7 or Ubuntu (besides the USB tryout version which I'm currently on now.I'll try and describe what happened in the beginning. I was rushing to get to class so I needed to shut down my Ubuntu system quickly. The quickest way was to obviously hold down the off button however later when I got home to finish off my uni assignment I couldn't boot into linux! I just get a dos command line with the word grub on it.However not only did it not fix my problem I now can't boot into anything except from this Ubuntu Live CD.

The website (search "ohio state mechanical engineering vpn" in google = top non sponsored link result) says that this address must be entered in Windows Explorer; however, I am using Ubuntu 9.04, so I cannot use Windows Explorer (with the exception of WINE). I tried using the "connect to server" program listed under "Places", but have not had any luck. I also think the computers in the lab I'm trying to connect to are not using Samba. Any ideas on how I might connect to this location?
I am thinking to use Nominum at our network as a DNS server rather than using BIND. They say that their product is the most secure DNS and has best performance. We are a University and we have around 300 PCs. If came across Nominum do you think it is a good idea to use it at university?
View 4 Replies View RelatedI am behind a university http proxy (squid) server and all of my internet connections have to go through it. I haven't been able to find any setting in Evolution that allows me to specify my proxy settings.
Searching on Google, it suggested that evolution can't work behind proxies and works only with direct connections to the internet.
I wanted to know if there is any way round this problem. I tried posting the same question on gnome list and gnome hacking list and no reply has come so far.
I'm unable to get into my university's WLAN network. LAN works just fine, but sometimes it's quite convenient to be able to access stuff wirelessly. It doesn't seem to be a hardware problem, because if I configure my computer according to our computer department's instructions it works fine with Ubuntu (currently I carry around a stick to get into the Internet when I really need it and don't have a cable). The drivers are installed, I can get into normal private networks, but have never managed to get into the university network except for with Ubuntu.
The university instructions tell me to use the following settings:
Security: WPA Enterprise
Authentification: TTLS
Inner Authentification: PAP
Username: My username
Password: Password
CA Certificate: Deutsche_Telekom_Root_CA_2.pem
In the KDE instructions, they tell you to write "anonymous" into the anonymous identity field, but in the GNOME instructions it says to leave it blank. In Ubuntu, I leave it blank and it works.
I've got the recommended settings, which also work in GNOME.
I'd ask the tech support here, but I am the tech support We've got it working with other systems, like I said, but not with SUSE, and I'm a SUSE fan.
I'm not able to connect to my university's internet facilities under openSUSE 11.4. I have been able to connect in the past and I am still able to connect in Windows 7.When I try to connect to the university WiFi, a valid IP address is assigned to me and the gateway address appears to be correct, so I don't see a problem in the DHCP negotations. Same with my university's Ethernet: I get a valid IP address, but I can't connect to the internet.When I browse to any site with Chromium/Chrome/ Firefox/lynx/curl, the page is stuck at "Sending request". I have tried disabling my firewall - that didn't solve anything.I don't know what else I can try and the campus' network administrators are puzzled. How can I resolve my issue?

I see lots of sites for downloading fonts - some charge and some don't. Web searches seem to indicate that you pay for fonts, one way or the other - either up front or via "readers". I'm more concerned about viruses than cost.

View 9 Replies View RelatedI am trying to setup a dhcp server for my internal network. I have two NICs, a modem, and a wireless router. I have my server connected directly to my modem which is providing me with Internet access on eth1 and is working fine. I have dhcp and dns setup on eth0 which is connected to my router. The router shows that it is connected to the Internet but when the router gives a client computer an IP address, the client is unable to connect to the Internet but can connect to the router. I've recently set up a local development webserver using Karmic Koala. I downloaded and installed the server version of Kubuntu and have the web server working.
The problem is that for some reason, I'm no longer able to connect to the internet. I can connect to my router, and other machines in my network can VNC into the server.
I'm using an wired connection to the router and have the server set up on an internal IP of 192.168.0.100. I used to be able to connect to the internet, I downloaded and installed a load of packages etc before it stopped working.
The last thing I remember doing before it stopped working was that I installed Samba so I could share files with the other machines on the network (two Macs running Leopard and a WinXP laptop).
I got the share working - I copied a load of files to the server via the share, rebooted, and for some reason now I can't connect to the net (and other machines can't see the Samba share either.) However I can still VNC into the server.
I have a Dell PowerEdge 1650 server with 3 NICs in it. I am trying to use one NIC (eth0) to connect to the internet, the second NIC (eth1) to share the internet connection to a LAN, and the third NIC (eth2) to connect to the LAN.
It is running Ubuntu server 8.10
The problem that I'm having is that NetworkManager (version 0.7.0) keeps setting eth2 as the default connection, and then I don't get any internet at all from the server.
My main goal is to be able to share files from the server to computers on the LAN. The secondary goal is to have a virtual machine hosting a Halo server, connected through eth2, so that it can host LAN games. But that is a secondary goal after I get the connections to work.
I've been looking around and finding other people who have done bits and pieces of this, but not the whole thing. I had been hoping to simply use the NetworkManger, but I don't mind editing config files.
Also I can't seem to find any good instructions on editing the /etc/network/interfaces file. The man file is incomplete, and everything seems to point back to the man file.
I just got connected to Charter Cable Internet service a few days ago and I'm having a weird problem with my home network. Prior to this my network worked fine. On my network I have a desktop running Ubuntu 9.10/64 and Virtualbox with WinXP installed, an HTPC with Ubuntu 9.10/32 installed and a laptop dual booted with Ubuntu 9.10/32 and WinXP. The desktop and HTPC are hard wired to a wireless router and the laptop is wireless. The cable modem is hard wired to the router. I have samba installed and UFW is disabled. The problem is: with the cable modem turned off or on standby, all machines connect to each other and can transfer files, etc just fine but when I activate the cable modem all of the machines can connect to the Internet but the machines running Ubuntu can't connect to each other on the home network. If I boot the laptop into Windows, it can connect to the Linux machines just fine but if I boot it into Linux, it won't connect to the Linux machines but it can connect to the Internet and as far as the desktop, Ubuntu won't connect to the network but Windows running in the Virtualbox with bridged networking can connect to all of the machines.

I was previously trialling Win7 as my customers will likely be using that in the future. Then I wanted to go to internode.on.net. As it was just after Christmas I thought it must be down, for upgrades or maintenance etc. I later tried to go to Freebsd.org; same error. I've been having a small number of other websites give the same error. I thought nothing of this until I tried it on my wife's macpro. I could log onto all the websites I wanted to and none gave any indication of having been down. Both boxes are on the same adsl connection. I still can't access internode or freebsd on 10.10 yet have been able to access every website on OSX. Now, I was only looking at them for info but am worried I won't be able to access something important. (so far everything I 'need' is working)

I wanted to be able to have separate NICs with separate IPs connecting to separate gateways on a machine so I could put an ftpd on each one. I tried binding an ftpd to each, and running separate instances of the ftpd. I tried virtual hosts.
NOTHING worked. I could either use one ftpd or the other. I could either connect via ssh on one IP or the other. the second I turned one NIC off stuff would work again. I messed with basic iproute commands, andnothng worked until I got this script to run, which allowed me to use each NIC independant of the other.

But now, samba client doesn't work. cifs mounting doesn't work either. It can't connect.
BEFORE I ran that script, I could connect via ssh, or to the ftpd running on the machine using a LOCAL IP - 10.10.10.2. AFTER, I have to use the external IP, or I cannot connect. I know that has something to do with it, but I do not have the advanced linux routing knowledge to redo the script or come up with a solution.
