I recently purchased an eMachines e250M, and I installed Ubuntu Netbook Remix 9.04 on it, and it does not seem to be able to detect my ethernet card. When I open the Network Manager it simply says "No network devices available".I've toyed around with it a bit and looked for drivers online, but to no avail. Any suggestions for getting my wired and wireless connections working?
View 1 RepliesI just added a 2 port network card to a system that is running Fedora 11, but it is INACTIVE. I open the Network Device Control to activate it but there is no network ports in Network Device Control. It is empty.It looks like the system recognize the card and loaded correct driver.

Watching through /var/log/messages it says that F10 detects two port device for this modem: ttyUSB1 and ttyUSB2, and in the sequence it disable port ttyUSB1 BUT Network Manager still set this port.I mean, when i connect via wvdial appointing to ttyUSB2 i get connection, but Network Manager fails to do it appointing to ttyUSB1. How to change device port in Network Manager?

I looked around the forums and tried a few things like modprobe 8139too. The card still is not working. Was that the right thing to do with this particular card?
After the use of pppoeconf, the network manager does not recognise neither the wired nor the wireless connection anymore. (It nicely did it before that) I tried to replace the etc/network manager folder with that of a different machine. Still the same. What else can I do to reset Network Manager ?

I have just installed Ubuntu 10.10 on a Dell Laptop. It has a Netgear WG511 (made in China) PCI wireless card but I cannot see any connections other than the wired one. Entering in lspci in the terminal mode and removing/replacing the WG511 shows (I think) that something is being detected in the PCI slot "Network Controller: Intersil Corporation ISL 3890 [Prism GT/Prism Duette]/ISL3886 [Prism Javelin/Prism Xbow] rev 01". Is this the WG511 and, if so, how do I get it to be detected as a network device?

Both PCs (ubuntu 10.04 laptop wireless, 8.10 desktop wired) connected to it can print, but not scan, since XSANE does not recognize the scanner over the network. It does hoverer both, scanning and printing, if connected with an USB cable. How can i configure xsane to recognize my RX500 over the network?

View 8 Replies View RelatedI have been working on this for a while now and am absolutely stumped. Basically, what i am attempting to do is make my ubuntu box into a gateway for my network. I have everything working thru hard wire, but I simply cant get the wireless to work. No matter what I do, I cannot get my wireless card to transmit an essid and allow nodes to connect. I have tried assigning it in the interfaces file (shown below), and I have also tried manually modifying it using the iwconfig command. Here is the topology:
eth1: internet WAN
eth2: ethernet out to LAN
ra0: wireless out to LAN

Okay currently I am using a a Belkin F6D4050v1 usb wireless n card on a 32 bit intall of ubuntu 9.10. I have already installed ndiswrapper and installed the the rt2870.inf driver and rebooted. View 2 Replies View RelatedI have an nc8000 that gives a "104 unsupported wireless network device detected" error when I plug in my Intel wifi card that I acquired recently. Based on reading, this is a common HP problem due to non-native HP hardware. If I insert the Intel Pro card after the HP boot screen, 10.04 loads just fine and Ubuntu detects the card.

I have a wired connection on the motherboard and a also a card for wireless communication.Wired connection works fine but my plan is now to setup wireless connection too.I was advised to use this in order to find installed network devices: sudo lshw -C network.Not sure, but I think it only reports details about the wired device. I need a bash script to run ARPON for the connected network device, eth1 or eth2. (ethernet or wireless)
Arpon has an option (-o) to select the network automatically, but it only works for ethernet, hence i need this script. I've also tried running arpon for ethernet and wireless at the same time, but the arpon process running the inactive device will consume all of my CPU.
So, basically i need a script to find which device is connected, eth1 or eth2 and then to run arpon -d -i <device connected> (or something like that).
Is there an easy way to do this? code...

Having trouble with wireless and FC11, eth0 is ok. When I try to activate wlan0 through system-config-network 1.5.97, I get msg: Error for wireless request "Set Mode" (8B06) : SET failed on device wlan0 ; Invalid argument. Determining IP information for wlan0... failed. This is a compaq laptop.

I have installed a new network multifunctional device Samsung CLX-3185FN using the drivers provided by the manufacturer (Samsung Unified Driver). The printing over the network works fine, I can administer the device using browser. The only problem I have is using scanner over the network. It works fine if I disable firewall, but is blocked with firewall enabled. I can not figure out which ports or port-range I must enable for this scanner. Do you have any information on this one or how can I found out the necessary ports to open?

I have NIS and autofs working -- mostly.The home directories reside on an EMC network storage device. The problem is that when I login as a regular user, all the files under the home directory are owned by nobody/nobody, instead of user/group. I believe this has something to do with NFSv3 vs. v4, but I have yet to find the right trick to fix it.

I have installed Linux SuSE 10.3 on a PC (Lenovo Thinkstation A58). However, when I start the computer I get the following error message:
"No valid Host_ID or host-name found."
I then use YaST to set up the network. I get the following error message:
"Unable to configure the network card because the kernel device is not present."
The computer has Windows 7 installed and everything seems to work fine. The LED on the Ethernetplug is blinking when using Windows, but not when using Linux. I guess this means that there is no driver for the Ethernet card (Marvell Yukon 88E8057). I have not found any driver for the card and am considering buying a new one. Which PCI card works with SuSE Linux 10.3?
In my YaST Network Settings (11.3), I see an entry labelled "Unknown Network Device" how to remove the confusion? The Overview tab also correctly lists my three known network devices (listed below), as does the Hardware Information utility. This is the output of lspci, and as far as I can tell, is accurate and complete. So what has YaST seen that it can't identify?

I don't use CentOS regularly (Ubuntu and Mint, yes) so I'm not sure if this is something that is particular to CentOS or not. I have this workstation that controls a microscope controller. The drives in this computer are some POS Seagate drives where the data storage drive has already conked out more than once. I think this time there was a problem with the OS drive that caused a lot of filesystem errors. I wasn't able to boot the OS at first but I ran fsck from a liveCD and was able to fix the (hundreds of) errors and the OS can now boot from the drive. The problem ave now is the ethernet does not work. I know there's not a problem with the ethernet controllers because I can access the internet through the liveCD. When I try to activate eth0, or eth1, I get the following error:Quote:

I'm running Squeeze and I'm looking 3 days now for a solution in some weird problem. The NetworkManager Applet shows that there isn't connection although I am connected. The icon has this small "x" and when mouseover it says "No network conncection". Moreover when left clicking it, it says
"Wired Network Device not managed"
While I was looking for the solution a came across this post by an Ubuntu developer who says:network-manager-applet displays the connectivity state of network-manager's managed interfaces not every interface. So the title "network manager says disconnected but is connected and working" is actually misleading. The interface is connected and working but not from network-manager's point of view since it is not managing the interface. Additionally, in Lucid now network-manager applet displays nothing now for non-managed interfaces so is less misleading. You can check to see whether or not an interface is managed by network-manager by using the command line too nm-tool. You'll see "State: unmanaged" for unmanaged interfaces.
I'm on opensuse 11.4 (11.3 won't work with my monitor).
My computer gets internet through wireless and I want to share that internet through its ethernet port. So far I've tried using Knetworkmanager to create a network bridge between my wireless and wired connections. I created a new wired connection and shared it using the ip address settings. I was able to get both connections active, but the device hooked up via ethernet had no internet connectivity.
I also tried this command:
echo 1 > /proc/sys/net/ipv4/ip_forward
but another test resulted in the same fashion (no internet on wired). I believe anything I add to /proc should have an immediate effect, correct?
