Ubuntu Multimedia :: BenQ E2200HD Monitor - Unable To Configure A Resolution Higher Than 800x600

Mar 6, 2011

I'm currently using ubuntu 10.04 version. I've recently purchased a BenQ E2200HD monitor. However, the monitor is unable to configure a resolution higher than 800x600. I've tried changing it via 'preferences' - 'monitor' etc. The monitor model is 'unknown'. and the highest resolution available is the 800x600.

I've tried changing it manually, but it says x.cong file does not exist. Xrandr doesnt seem to work either. Or i would get CTRC 262. My current set up is, intel i5 2600, 4GB Ram, Nvidia GTS 240. I'm pretty certain, my graphics card (despite being in the low end) can support HD resolution. Even if it can't, it surely can support a resolution higher than 800x600.

General :: Set A Higher Resolution Than 800x600 In VirtualBox Without Using Guest Additions?

Nov 25, 2010

There is no shortage of questions about increasing the VirtualBox resolution to more than 800x600 with a Linux guest OS, but every time the proposed solution was "install Guest additions".I want the VM to be as simple and as portable as possible, so I would prefer not to install "Guest additions" which seem to fail after each kernel upgrade, which have to be uninstalled before a VBox upgrade etc.Is there a way to increase the resolution to something greater than 800x600 without Guest additions? Why can WinXP set 1024x768 without guest additions?

General :: Screen Resolution Settings Higher Than 800x600 With Ubuntu 10.04 Inside Virtual PC

Oct 3, 2010

This is my first posting as a Linux Newbie. I have installed Ubuntu 10.04 inside of a MS Virtual PC on my Vista machine. Everything seems to work beautifully and is stable. However, I would like to use a resolution higher than the current maximum of 800x600. I've poked around on the web and have tried various tips. I tried using the xrandr options which added a higher resolution mode, but when I would try to set the output to that resolution, I would get an error message to the effect that I could not exceed the current maximum of 800x600.

I tried to cobble parameter values together and create an xorg.conf file, but every iteration seems to produce a bunch of colorful vertical bars within my Virtual PC window, and I would have to blow away that virtual PC setup and rebuild it (along with reinstalling Ubuntu). As I said, 800x600 is not a show stopper, but I would like to take advantage of the real estate I have with my display. These "fifty-five year old" eyes could benefit from the larger size. FYI, I did take a stab at installing Virtual Box, but got the infamous "blue screen", so I would rather stick with what appears to be a stable virtual PC base.

Ubuntu :: Xorg Doesn't Detect Monitor / Won't Display Higher Than 800x600 On A 1400x900 Monitor

Apr 3, 2010

I installed Karmic on an older PC I had laying around, and the only trouble I am having is with screen resolution. It uses an old ATI chipset (onboard) for video, and it doesn't seem to do EDID correctly, so I can't display anything higher than 800x600. I have tried creating an xorg.conf, but it's still not working. How can I tell Xorg to ignore the fact it can't detect a widescreen monitor and display something larger than 800x600? I noticed the log says the sync's are out of range, but I am not sure how to fix it.

Here is my current xorg.conf.

Ubuntu :: Unable To Fix Higher Screen Resolution?

Mar 3, 2010

I am having a major problem in a new Karmic install. Big rationalisation. Kicked out a lot of machines in favour of Virtual machines. Installed Karmic. Machine has dual 22" wide screen monitors, max res 1680 x 1050. Karmic installed at maximum 800 x 600 and will not go above that. I have looked for xorg.conf and cannot find one anywhere. I have tried the randr as shown by Sharaq but when I try to set the higher resolution it gives message saying maximum size is 800 x 600. I have downloaded the proprietory drivers from Radeon and tried to run them. The installer runs but I cannot get to the 'Continue' button because it is off the bottom of my screen so I cannot set up the drivers. I suspect I am going to have the same problem with the Lucid install I did yesterday. Earlier releases never gave me this issue so why now?
Why is the initial resolution so low?

Ubuntu Multimedia :: Can't Get Above 800x600 Nvidia Geoforce 7200gs

Jan 10, 2010

i'm running hardy with geforce 7200gs hooked up to panasonic tc-l32c12. nvidia drivers only allow 640x480, xorg file is blank, resolution changer doesn't work at all, preferences-> screen only offers 800x600 max, and of course this lcd tv model #
is not an option in gtk. i actually lost the whole gui since i routinely skip file check (lesson learned there) but got it back by editing the unmounted partition at which point xorg file got blanked out. tried to install nouveau as well but no luck, the learning curve there is too steep atm for my noobiness.

things were working ok with my old monitor, an acer 23 inch. the panasonic display works fine with a different hard drive with hardy on it but migrating to it would be a huge hassle (probably where things are headed though). i guess i'm lucky it works at all, it's just irritating that the bottom of some program windows get chopped off rendering them useless.

Now I'm trying 'xrandr.' I was able to create a new mode just fine, but when I try to add it to the appropriate output, I get this:

Ubuntu Multimedia :: External Monitor Having Resolution Higher Than Native

Jan 2, 2010

I've got a little problem with my 9" netbook. It came preinstalled with Ubuntu (factory install), but I reinstalled it to get a fresh karmic as it was a second hand. The problem is, whenever I plug in an external monitor, rightclick on the display icon and click "Configure Display Settings..." both monitors go black and nothing responds. Weird thing though, is that sometimes the mouse appears on the second monitor. I need a solution for this, either creating a xorg file (I have no clue on how to do that) or some other solution that works.

My netbook resolution is 1024*600, the external monitor resolution is 1024*768. It should be noted that I had a similar problem on another Ubuntu laptop (NVIDIA drivers), but it had to do with the resolution height. My laptop had 1440*900 and my external monitor needed to have the height lower then 900.
For further information, this is what the system profiler says about my graphics card:Display controller: Intel Corporation Mobile 945GM/GMS/GME, 943/940GML Express Integrated Graphics Controller.I hope you guys can help me, as plugging in a netbook to an external monitor (or TV) is not uncommon to me I like doing that, even if there's no point in it.I hope I gave enough information on this, I'm willing to give more if needed of course

Debian Multimedia :: Cannot Set External Monitor To Higher Resolutions

Jul 8, 2011

I recently got a new external monitor for my laptop, and connected them by VGA. This is what 'xrandr' tells me:

Screen 0: minimum 320 x 200, current 1440 x 900, maximum 4096 x 4096
LVDS1 connected (normal left inverted right x axis y axis)
1280x800 60.0 +
1024x768 60.0
800x600 60.3 56.2
640x480 59.9
VGA1 connected 1440x900+0+0 (normal left inverted right x axis y axis) 510mm x 290mm
1920x1080 60.0 +
1600x1200 60.0
1680x1050 60.0
1280x1024 75.0 60.0
1440x900 75.0 59.9*
1280x960 60.0
1280x800 59.8
1152x864 75.0
1024x768 75.1 70.1 60.0
832x624 74.6
800x600 72.2 75.0 60.3 56.2
640x480 72.8 75.0 66.7 60.0
720x400 70.1

However when I try to change to some of the higher resolutions, such as 1920x1080, all I get is a corrupted and flickering image. As indicated above, I am currently on 1440x900@59.9h,z but for some reason 1440x900@75hz doesn't work. The same seems to be true for 1280x1024. The three resolutions above that all cannot be selected properly. I tried setting the resolution to maximum in Windows XP and it worked, and my video games console can set it to 1080p, so I don't think there is anything wrong with the monitor. Is there anything I can do or is this some kind of bug or limitation of the graphics driver or something? The graphics chipset of the laptop is an Intel 945GM, which I believe should be capable of displaying 1920x1080. I am running debian unstable with what seems to be the most up to date version of xserver-xorg-video-intel.
