I installed 11.04 Beta2 and have a question regarding the mail (envelope) icon in the upper right corner (between the volumn icon and the time).
I prefer Thunderbird over Evolution, and uninstalled Evoloution. Is there a way to tell the icon to open Thunderbird. After uninstalling Evolution, the icon does not seem to have any functionality?
I lost the shutdown icon and the sound icon which were there before. I have attached a screenshot depicting the same.
View 3 Replies View RelatedI've installed Office 2007 under wine, and would like to add launchers for Word, Excel, etc to the Unity launcher bar.
So, I've created a launcher on the Desktop that will run Word with wine. I've changed the icon to the Word Icon and everything works great from the desktop. If I drag that launcher to the Unity bar, it adds it, but changes the icon to the springboard default icon that new launchers use. Please see attached picture.
As a side note, I am really starting to like Unity (puts on flamesuit), but it seems very easy to break the install of 11.04. I've had to reinstall 4 times now.
notice that the shutdown icon is not really round(on the upper right corner)? Have they fixed this one yet?
View 4 Replies View RelatedSo I was fooling around with compiz settings manager and was trying to get the cube to rotate around, and by doing so I disabled some plugins (because I was prompted to do so) and now Unity is gone and everything opens in the upper left hand corner so much so that I can't move the window. It was pretty rash for me just to disable plugins,how to get everything back to normal.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI've been using Fedora 13 for a few months now on my desktop and since ethernet is not a choice I needed to use a wlan adapter. I did a little research and ended up using a Linksys WUSB54G ver. 4 which worked great (plug and play, no ndiswrapper or any other configuration required) on my wireless g network, using WEP protection. About a week ago I started looking for methods of upgrading my system because. well I just like being somewhat current.
Anyway I used a Fedora 14 Install DVD and used the upgrade option and it worked. All my settings (seem) to be exactly the same as my Fedora 13 settings were and the appearance and location of files etc. are all the same. Now, for some odd reason, to me at least, Fedora isn't showing a wlan icon in the upper right hand (by the way I'm using GNOME) corner like it used to and doesn't seem to have configured my wlan device correctly. I ran lsusb and it shows the device ID (13b1:000d) and the name (Linksys WUSB54G v4 802.11g Adapter [Ralink RT2500USB]) I'd just like to get my adapter working again like it did in 13. I have kernel version 2.6.35.6-45.fc14.i686.
I recently installed fedora 15 on my computer but I have a huge problem. I can connect to my router wirelessly for a couple of minutes only. Afterwards my computer has no Internet connection although the network manager and the icon on the upper bar says that i am still connected. I tried editing the /etc/rc.local and /etc/resolv.conf as mentioned in other posts in here bit no luck so far.

I've tried two different discs, one 10.04 and one 10.10; and two different disc drives.

In classic, that icon what at the top menu bar.
I recently tried gnome 3 on my netbook to see if it would work (via PPA) on ubuntu 11.04, it didn't.URL...I rolled backed to gnome 2 (by removing the PPA - comment 7 in the above link), however, now when I use unity as my desktop any changes I make to the docked icons are not saved when I logout. This seems to happen on a couple of different users, so it doesn't seem to be a user setting problem (i.e. a weird file version problem).As a work around I have unity 2D installed on my netbook (an eee 1000H) and this works fine.

My question is how do I remove the home directory and the trash icon from the desktop? Or better said what is the path to removing the symbolic link, I cannot find the symbolic links in the desktop directory. It is empty, I do not see any symbolic links under /home/test/Desktop?

My problem is that icon is not working in menu! I can find my program in Utilities->Time->ETM Manager and this is what I wanted, but there is no icon for the program.

Is it possible to move the unity menu bar? It's the bar on the left side with all the icons. I would prefer it to be on the bottom. I really hope they do this for 11.04.

So, in the Gnome desktop, I would go to gconf-editor and set some keys and I'd get my computer folder and home folder shortcut on my desktop.
This time since the unity desktop has come with a nice sidebar, I'd like to put the same icon there, in the sidebar. But I can't even access computer as Computer:/// anymore... What to do?
I have my Unity desktop just how I like it, but sometimes I like to log in to the Gnome (Ubuntu Classic) desktop. However, I was playing around with CCSM while in Gnome and I've totally messed it up, I have the Gnome panels and also the Unity launcher, it's a total mess. Is there a way to reset my Gnome desktop to default without affecting my Unity desktop?
View 3 Replies View RelatedI switched on my machine this evening and the first thing I noticed was the home icon in the unity launcher has changed, then I noted then I noted that the window switcher icon, power-off icon and me icon in top right are also different.
On starting nautilus (clicking on home icon) it looks more like thunar (although about says its not). A screen shot showing "nautilus-thunar" and the desktop is attached.
Firefox's minimize, maximize and close icons have also changed - see other screen shot.
Anyone got any idea what's going on? Anyone else have this.
From what I gather, there's no way to remove the Trash icon from the Unity launcher, or to hide it; is this true? I noticed that if I delete ~/.local/share/Trash, the file re-appears if I click on the Trash icon in the launcher.

I tried to change it but it didn't work. Then i as i only saw one option i reinstalled ubuntu then it worked again and have since.

View 2 Replies View Relatedis it would be possible create a Ubuntu dvd that contains the ubuntu server desktop and alternate install opptions, as well as all four main desktop environments (gnome, kde, xfce, lxde) and unity. since much of the data is redundant between each version cd's it would probably all fit on one disk. then all that would be needed is two disks one for 32 bit and another for 64 bit. i really think that this could work.
