* Windows Media decoder (GStreamer, 32 bit, i586)
* Advanced Streaming Format (ASF) demuxer (GStreamer, 32 bit, i586)
During that I also did some update, but the problem still the same.
I'm looking for a simple media player that can loop/repeat a given section of a song; say from 2:55 to 3:20 if I wanted. This would be useful for guitar practice.
View 8 Replies View Relatedi just installed 10.10 on my girls laptop (Acer Aspire 5735z) hoping it would fix the old problem i had with playing real dvd's. it didnt. it keeps saying "Could not read from Resource". when i try with VLC is say "Could not read from file". but if i put in a burned movie, it plays fine. i checked and it has libdvdcss2, libdvdnav4, and libdvdread4 installed. i get the same problems with my laptop (toshiba portege m400 tablet) which runs fedora 13.

View 9 Replies View RelatedI'm running Ubuntu 10.04 LTS and recently upgraded Banshee Media Player which I had been using for months no problem. I'm not sure what version I was using before and I'm not sure what version I'm using now. I assume 1.8.0 or higher. Here's what I get when I type 'banshee' into the terminal:

My Banshee Media Player just crashed, the window to force quit didn't appear, so I opened a terminal and typed "ps aux | grep banshee" to close it using the kill command. I got this output
Code:
As you can see in the 3082 line, the path says /usr/lib/banshee/Banshee.exe... I didn't knew I was backporting Wine to run banshee.
I am running Ubuntu latest revision, but for the last 2 revs I have had the same problem. I have tried removing and uninstalling all media players, codecs and everything with no luck yet. When I play an AVI it brings up a window saying I need the divx or mpeg-4 codec. Click here to download. When I click it, it tells me it can't find the required drivers. The audio plays but no video. I have installed the codecs from what I can tell. I have seen errors for DivX MPEG-4 Version 5, X-VID MPEG-4, and H.264.
View 6 Replies View RelatedVLC Media player has been giving me a few problems and I'm hoping someone here has a fix for this issue.Yesterday I was playing an avi file and my browser, that was also running, froze up in the background. At the same time my video became choppy and started to freeze. I shut down firefox and vlc but when I opened it back up all of my avi files where greyed out. I've posted a request for help on the vlc forums but no one has responded. Has anyone else experienced this problem? It's frustrating because my vlc player will still play dvd's but it won't play any avi files. Oh and I tried the drag and drop option per a suggestion but all I get is sound with no video. Lastly, I should mention that I'm a multi tasker and was also trouble shooting a problem I was having with amarok, which I've since uninstalled. Could amarok have some how screwed up my files? I've even uninstalled an reinstalled vlc but nothing works

Today, I need to play some WAV files. But VLC plays the WAV files silently.
Gnome Media Player also plays them silently.

I'm trying to play an mp4 video (movie) with my VLC media player but the image is very sequential (it keeps interrupting). I don't know why... I've even tried to play with some other players but I have the same problem.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI have an SMB service in my apartment that has all of my media files on it. When I am on Windows and OS X I use iTunes to play my music straight off of my server, no need to copy files over to a local directory. But I have been unable to do this on Kubuntu. Every media player I have used will not add the songs from the server. What iTunes style media player will play songs via an SMB server?

View 3 Replies View RelatedI have a problem where I can't shuffle songs in Banshee Media Player. All the playback options to repeat and shuffle songs are grayed out. Makes me absolutely mad right now since I wanted to make a playlist with Christmas songs to play while decorating the Christmas tree. And I wanted the list to be played at random... no luck there.
Tried to upgrade via ppa to latest version but that didn't do the trick.
I have a fairly large music library, mostly in mp3-format. I run 10.04 LTS and Banshee 1.8.0.
Rhytmbox seems to be able to shuffle, but I am kinda used to Banshee and would like to continue using it.
I use Banshee 1.5.4 on Ubuntu 9.10 with a 2nd gen iPod Shuffle. I was thrilled when I plugged it in to see that everything worked right out-of-the-box but then I found that there's no way to manually order songs, Banshee always put an arrow in a column for you.
If you don't know much about the Shuffle, it lets you flick between 'sorted' and 'shuffled' mode. In sorted mode it plays songs in the order they are arranged in the music playlist. I like to keep classical and relaxing songs at the top of my playlist for when I can't sleep but Banshee won't let me manually organise my songs so I can't do this.
Peculiarly, when you drag songs to the Shuffle individually, though they will show up as being sorted, when you go to play them on the Shuffle they play in the order in which you dragged them. I was planning to just drag and drop over each song individually but I think there must be an easier way... I'm probably just missing something. P.S. Here's a screenshot to clarify. I synched the songs over in the order of Blur, Gorillaz, Air and Muse but they don't show as such
I'm cleaning up my music library and deleting duplicates and during that process I accidentally deleted the wrong song. Is there some way to undo this process? Banshee gave me no warning, and the trash is empty. I'm assuming there's a command I can use to recover the file, but as I'm a complete noob, I need some assistance.
View 5 Replies View Relatedok on my new laptop, banshee deletes songs other then the ones I told it to. I highlite a song or 2 I want to remove from a playlist, rightclick select remove from playlist and some seemingly randome other song is removed and the one I selected is left there.
what could cause this, am I the only one affected and is there a solution, for the moment I am using rythembox to play music.
I would prefer to use banshee as it plays nicer with my mp3 player then any other program I have tried.
After installing and gradually becoming familiar with OpenSUSE v11.2 [Gnome], I've been casually trying to get acquainted with the Bash shell and its commands. However, for this problem I thought it would be more appropriate to log in here, since this issue is a bit more serious. Accordingly, I'm afraid that I must once again prevail upon the helpful, patient, knowledgeable Linux users in this forum for assistance. As a retiree and a doting grandfather, I enjoy the luxury and time to take numerous videos of my children and grandchildren, and one of the features to which I've become spoiled in Windows is the ability to play a wide variety of video formats. Unfortunately, "out of the box", Banshee appears to refuse to play any of them. Somehow, using YaST, I was able to get online flash video to work by downloading and installing recommended packages, and it worked the first time after re-booting my system! However, I'm not having as much luck with installing video codecs that I apparently need to play my own video files. I wish these codecs had come pre-installed on the OpenSUSE disc that I burned, but you can't always get what you want. [Wasn't that the title of a 60's or 70's Rolling Stones song?]
I guess where I need help, specifically, is in determing where to get and how to install the best free video player and a comprehensive codec package that will work reliably in OpenSUSE. Would some kind soul out there be able to take me by the hand and show me, step by step, exactly what I must do to achieve this goal? I was hoping to be able to use the automatic package installer, but when I tried it, I noticed diagnostics informing me that I lacked certain dependencies, and that I should install manually, which I assume requires using the command line. I have no objection to trying this, if someone would be kind enough to show me exactly how. I really would like to be able to watch my grandchildren playing without having to depend upon one of my Windows systems.
Both Banshee and Rhythmbox crash, leaving a segmentation fault in the terminal, after playing a song for less than a second. I do manage to get some sound before they crash. This problem seems to have begun only a couple of days ago after doing an update. Unfortunately I was playing playing around with moving my music collection to an NFS share around the same time as the update so I can't be sure which action it was that broke music playback.
Because both Banshee and Rhythymbox are affected and showing identical behaviour I think the problem is gstreamer. Reinstalling everything I could find in synaptic related to gstreamer had no effect.
Some general information:
- My music collection is in FLAC but other formats seem to cause the same behaviour.
- Music from an NFS share or my external USB drive causes the same behaviour
- VLC plays music from my NFS share without any problems
- Removing ubuntu-one (as suggested in some posts) did not help
- I'm using Ubuntu Desktop 10.10 x86
I've had no luck searching the interwebs for help thus far. Does anyone have any ideas?
The latest version of banshee 2.0.0 which was updated today on my computer has a bug where if you double click on song in your library it will show the wrong album art and the wrong wikipedia article. If you double click a second time it retrieves the correct album art and the correct wikipedia article. If this is the new banshee for Ubuntu 11.04 it's not going to make many people happy.
