Ubuntu Multimedia :: Unable To Shuffle Songs In Banshee / Sort It?
Dec 23, 2010
I have a problem where I can't shuffle songs in Banshee Media Player. All the playback options to repeat and shuffle songs are grayed out. Makes me absolutely mad right now since I wanted to make a playlist with Christmas songs to play while decorating the Christmas tree. And I wanted the list to be played at random... no luck there.
Tried to upgrade via ppa to latest version but that didn't do the trick.
I have a fairly large music library, mostly in mp3-format. I run 10.04 LTS and Banshee 1.8.0.
Rhytmbox seems to be able to shuffle, but I am kinda used to Banshee and would like to continue using it.
I use Banshee 1.5.4 on Ubuntu 9.10 with a 2nd gen iPod Shuffle. I was thrilled when I plugged it in to see that everything worked right out-of-the-box but then I found that there's no way to manually order songs, Banshee always put an arrow in a column for you.
If you don't know much about the Shuffle, it lets you flick between 'sorted' and 'shuffled' mode. In sorted mode it plays songs in the order they are arranged in the music playlist. I like to keep classical and relaxing songs at the top of my playlist for when I can't sleep but Banshee won't let me manually organise my songs so I can't do this.
Peculiarly, when you drag songs to the Shuffle individually, though they will show up as being sorted, when you go to play them on the Shuffle they play in the order in which you dragged them. I was planning to just drag and drop over each song individually but I think there must be an easier way... I'm probably just missing something. P.S. Here's a screenshot to clarify. I synched the songs over in the order of Blur, Gorillaz, Air and Muse but they don't show as such
Banshee will recognize iPod shuffle 4th gen. It will let me drag songs to iPod and they show up in Banshee as being on my iPod. When I disconnect iPod and hit play, the voice over tells me to please load songs from iTunes.
Since upgrading to 10.04, Rhythmbox has been crashing regularly. It seems that every time it picks a new track, it has a chance of closing without notice. This can happen for the first track it plays, when clicking "next track" or when automatically going to the next track. This only seems to happen on shuffle, which is the way I usually use Rhythmbox. I tried running it with `rhythmbox -d` but the only output consistent between crashes is "Aborted", which appears suddenly and without any additional information or even a line break.
When ripping a CD, Banshee produces two songs in my library for each track on the CD. Both songs point to the same file in my Music folder (so just one actual file). Also of note, one of the songs is always a few seconds shorter than the other. I can safely remove the shorter version of each song from my library without repercussions, it's just annoying and weird.
A friend of mine has a 1st generation iPod touch, and wants to switch completely to linux, but is concerned how the songs currently on his iPod will be handled when he switches. He has many songs that are only on the iPod; he has purchased them from the iTunes store directly on the device, not through iTunes on his computer.
When he syncs his iPod with Banshee, will Banshee merely copy the songs onto his linux partition? Is there any chance that Banshee will remove the songs from his iPod? He obviously dosen't want to lose any of his music. A slightly lesser concern as well... will Banshee be able to play these protected files?
Since upgrading to 11.04 I have come across an issue when syncing my music to my Motorola Defy mobile phone. I have a large collection of music, the vast majority of which is ripped from CD and stored in FLAC format. I use Banshee to sync some music onto my phone by dragging and dropping. Banshee converts FLAC on-the-fly to OGG prior to copying the file to my phone.
Since installing Ubuntu 11.04 any songs that i have since synced appear to be cut short. The files seem to be of about the correct size, when the music player starts playing the track it shows the correct total length of the song in the timeline bar but the songs get cut short, usually at 5 seconds into the song but a few seem to last about a minute before skipping to the next.
This morning I tried converting files using Sound Converter and setting the Music folder on my Defy's SD Card as the destination folder. The files all appear to be of the right size, show the correct track length but only play the first 4 or five seconds. I used my other computer, also running Ubuntu 11.04, to transfer a few files and these work just fine.
I have a 3rd gen iPod shuffle which I had loaded music onto in Banshee a few months ago. It worked fine until yesterday when I decided I wanted to delete a few tracks from it. When I mounted it and opened Banshee it said I had to rebuild the database or something to that effect. I did that and could then see all the tracks on it. I went ahead and deleted the few tracks I wanted to remove, and ejected it. When I tried to use it, it says "please use itunes to sync music." A little confused, I went back and deleted all the tracks on it (using Banshee) and reloaded some tracks. It still won't work.
I haven't changed anything in Banshee (as far as I know) and I have never plugged the shuffle into itunes. I've always used Banshee to manage it and never had a problem. The only major change I can think of that might have made a difference is upgrading from Ubuntu 9.10 to 10.04.
I used Easy Tag to edit my songs' ID3 tags. Banshee reads them fine but Rhythmbox misreads them! For eg., blink 182, Blink 182, and Blink-182!!! Apparently it's because Easy Tag makes ID3v1 tags while Rhythmbox read ID3v4? That's SO stupid! What am I supposed to do now? I saw RB had a bug filed but it got closed because "it's not a problem with rhythmbox, it's a problem with ID3 tags." RB should be able to read them! That's ridiculous. So how do I fix the tags?
As for Banshee, anyone else move from version 1.6 to 1.7.6? The new one crashes everytime I use it. It's simply awful. And this is supposed to lots of bugs fixed? It's the new stable version? What a joke! How do I fix this now? Or better yet, how to go back to version 1.6? I downgraded it?Still have the rhythmbox problem!I'm using Ubuntu Lucid 64 bit with Gnome.
iPhone 3G; Ubuntu 11.04; tried Banshee, Rythmbox, and Amarok. It looks like the songs went on my iPhone when I look at Rythmbox or Banshee under Devices. However, when I go to to the iPhone, I cannot see the songs under iTunes. Nothing is there
When I opened Banshee today and tried to play a certain song, the player crashed. When I opened the player again, it continued to crash for only the same songs.
Here's the output: Code: [Info 11:19:22.275] Running Banshee 1.8.0: [Ubuntu 10.10 (linux-gnu, i686) @ 2010-11-26 13:53:04 UTC] [Info 11:19:22.620] Starting collection of anonymous usage data [Info 11:19:23.353] Updating web proxy from GConf [Info 11:19:23.397] All services are started 0.900266 [Warn 11:19:23.553] Forcefully breaking out of RCS loop b/c change in total_width less than 1.0 [Info 11:19:24.110] nereid Client Started [Warn 11:19:24.252] Caught an exception - System.ArgumentNullException: Argument cannot be null .....

Got a SIGSEGV while executing native code. This usually indicates a fatal error in the mono runtime or one of the native libraries used by your application. Aborted
I temporarily fixed this by disabling all extensions, reenabling them, then restarting Banshee, but the problem came back a few minutes later.
I want to listen to my iPod Touch 4g using Banshee, connecting is not a problem, my problem is that all the songs are protected so when one song is done it just stays there idle it doesn't play any other songs. Is there a way to unprotect them so I can listen to them w/o worrying about it turning idle?
I'm trying to subscribe to a podcast using banshee, the problem is that when the add dialog disappears nothing happen. No error is given and my podcast isn't added.I'sure it's a valid podcast since I can add it to rhythmbox.
I'm experiencing a problem running Banshee 2.0 on my Ubuntu 11.04 system. Basically, I'm getting the following fatal error, the code of which is quoted hereunder. Of note is that uninstalling and reinstalling Banshee (through Ubuntu Software Centre) doesn't fix this problem. Incidentally or not, I also seem to have a problem with my other (and preferred) media player, Amarok. This is the error code:
Code: Si verificata un eccezione non gestita: Sqlite error 14: unable to open database file (SQL: UPDATE CorePrimarySources SET CachedCount = 1568 WHERE PrimarySourceID = 1) at Hyena.Data.Sqlite.Connection.CheckError (Int32 errorCode, System.String sql) [0x00000] in <filename unknown>:0 at Hyena.Data.Sqlite.Connection.Execute (System.String sql) [0x00000] in <filename unknown>:0 at Hyena.Data.Sqlite.HyenaSqliteCommand.Execute (Hyena.Data.Sqlite.HyenaSqliteConnection hconnection, Hyena.Data.Sqlite.Connection connection) [0x00000] in <filename unknown>:0 Exception has been thrown by the target of an invocation.
Banshee can't find any information about track or artist with a CD in the drive. She can play it and rip without error just no info... I have had a good look about the menu's and can not find any way of changing the site where it gets the info from.
I downloaded banshee because i knew that could put movies on my ipod, but everytime i run banshee my ipod doesn't show up. i tried started it, then plugging it in and still didnt show up. Anyone knows what the problem is?
my friend just got an Ipod touch, so he gave me his old shuffle. So when I got home, I plugged it in, and it mounted fine. Then I tried to rename it, but when I right click on the icon, the "Rename" option is grayed out. How do I rename it then?
I have installed Amarok 2.3.0 on my Ubuntu 10.04 installation and couldn't find the shuffle option anywhere? Any idea where it could be? I have attached the screenshot of my Amarok window
how I can shuffle my MP3 files before I drag them on to my player? My little D-Wave MP3/4 player does not shuffle songs. This can be a little boring. I use Banshee to drag and drop songs to it without any problems and Banshee will play the tracks randomly.
I did see a thread on the Forum recently which looked like it would shuffle the files in a directory but I have not been able to find it again.
My ipod shuffle (1st generation) will not mount in Ubuntu 10.10 64 bit when I plug it into my usb port. When I plug in the ipod I do not get an icon being created for it on the desktop. I have also checked nautilus and there is no storage device for the ipod showing when I click on computer in nautilus.I have also checked /media in nautilus and there in no listing for the ipod. The only way I can see the ipod in Ubuntu is if I open up a terminal window and use the command lsusb which then shows a listing for the ipod.
If I have the ipod plugged into my computer before I turn it on and then turn on the computer to boot with Ubuntu, Ubuntu does not boot in the normal graphics mode but boots in text mode where I have to type in my name and password on a black terminal screen. The ipod has the latest software on it as well as being reset back to original factory settings. I have no problems using the ipod if boot up on windows 7 and plug in the ipod.
I've been using Mac OSX 10.4 Tiger on iMac and am examining to change Operating System to ubuntu. The last time when I was examining ubuntu installing to Intel iMac, I couldn't recharge battery of iPod the 2nd and 3rd generation. After making decision to use ubuntu, I am going to use iPod shuffle as MP3 player. Anyone know how to recharge iPod on ubuntu OS?

I have no issues with music showing up fir my Gen 1 iPod Touch, but when I plug in my iPod Shuffle (gen 4 silver) I got an error (only got it once and dont know what it said) and it displays nothing.
