I was unable to play windows media player content from WEB using Firefox. Firefox is asking to install missing plug-ins. But when I click on "install missing plug-in" button, its showing "No plug-ins found". In windows its played by windows Media player plug-in.

i just installed 10.10 on my girls laptop (Acer Aspire 5735z) hoping it would fix the old problem i had with playing real dvd's. it didnt. it keeps saying "Could not read from Resource". when i try with VLC is say "Could not read from file". but if i put in a burned movie, it plays fine. i checked and it has libdvdcss2, libdvdnav4, and libdvdread4 installed. i get the same problems with my laptop (toshiba portege m400 tablet) which runs fedora 13.
View 5 Replies View RelatedI am running Ubuntu latest revision, but for the last 2 revs I have had the same problem. I have tried removing and uninstalling all media players, codecs and everything with no luck yet. When I play an AVI it brings up a window saying I need the divx or mpeg-4 codec. Click here to download. When I click it, it tells me it can't find the required drivers. The audio plays but no video. I have installed the codecs from what I can tell. I have seen errors for DivX MPEG-4 Version 5, X-VID MPEG-4, and H.264.
View 6 Replies View RelatedVLC Media player has been giving me a few problems and I'm hoping someone here has a fix for this issue.Yesterday I was playing an avi file and my browser, that was also running, froze up in the background. At the same time my video became choppy and started to freeze. I shut down firefox and vlc but when I opened it back up all of my avi files where greyed out. I've posted a request for help on the vlc forums but no one has responded. Has anyone else experienced this problem? It's frustrating because my vlc player will still play dvd's but it won't play any avi files. Oh and I tried the drag and drop option per a suggestion but all I get is sound with no video. Lastly, I should mention that I'm a multi tasker and was also trouble shooting a problem I was having with amarok, which I've since uninstalled. Could amarok have some how screwed up my files? I've even uninstalled an reinstalled vlc but nothing works

I usually use VLC because of its reliability.
Today, I need to play some WAV files. But VLC plays the WAV files silently.
Gnome Media Player also plays them silently.
Movie Player, on the other hand, plays them correctly.

I have installed following plugins in Firefox, DivX Browser Plug-in (Geko Media Player 0.9.8), MozPlugger 1.12.1, gecko-mediaplayer 0.9.8, VLC Multimedia Plug-in 1.0.3.
I'm trying to play an mp4 video (movie) with my VLC media player but the image is very sequential (it keeps interrupting). I don't know why... I've even tried to play with some other players but I have the same problem.

View 9 Replies View RelatedI am really fedup from playing .mpg (1080i) videos on linux. I tried to use smplayer or vlc but the video plays so poor, I got like scales (lines) on the video like on the screenshot embedded below (the screenshot I found on the net).
When I play the same video on windows 7 its so great with windows media player 12, when I play it with smplayer or vlc on windows 7 I got the same performance like in linux, its like windows media player has its own mpg hardware accelerator!
I am having problems listening to windows media streams from a particular website ( http://radiotime.com ) whenever I try to listen to a stream from firefox, the page loads then connects but i have no sound (i am actually trying to listen to those two chinese radios [URL].. I have the mplayerplug-in/gecko-mediaplayer installed, but it doesn't work, I tought that maybe there was a problem with that plugin so I deactivated it and installed the vlc plugin, after restarting firefox and trying to listen to those streams again, the vlc plugin tried to read it but it still would not work. I even tried to install the Silverlight Plug-In without any result, does anybody know what I could do to make windows media audio streams work ? it is wierd because i seem to be able to watch windows media video streams from other websites, but i cannot listen to any stream from this one, it used to work for mp3 streams only, but after desinstalling/resinstalling the mplayer plug in, it doesn't work anymore on this website. I can listen to those streams without any problem under windows 7, so the problem isn't coming from the website.

[URL]So, I want to hear the state-owned Portuguese radio that plays Classical Music, called "Antena 2", by either (1) clicking its website's listening "popup" window - [URL]- or by (2) adding such radio to my Rhythmbox list.
And, I would like to hear such a radio without having to install the proprietary "Flash" plug-in... And, if I'm forced to install any proprietary plug-in, I would rather install some "gstreamer" package(?) instead. But, preferably, what I would like, would be to use a Free Software alternative, if possible.
But, in the meantime, this is what happens...
1. If I click the above-mentioned link, to the corresponding "popup" window ([URL]), I can't hear anything.
2. If I click on a link at the bottom of that same "popup" window, that says "Listen to the broadcast in Windows Media Player" - [URL] - I'm sent to an identical listening "popup" window/page, where I still can't hear anything - and whose difference is that, now, the link at the bottom of the page says "Listen to the broadcast in Flash" [URL]
That is, this radio's website presents me two alternatives. That are, to listen to it
(1) using the "Flash" technology ([URL]), or
(2) using some "Windows Media Player" technology/codec/format ([URL])
The first of which I would very much like to not have to install, and the second of which I suspect there might be some plug-in package for, that I can install, that will make it possible for me to hear this radio.
And, the reason I suspect the latter, is because, if I try to add the link to the "Windows Media Player" page ([URL]) to my Rhythmbox's list of radios, I get the error message: "Your GStreamer installation is missing a plug-in."
So, which package(s) do I have to install, to be able to listen to this radio on the web - or, even better, through my Rhythmbox list of radios?
I can't get my media to play. I click on the song I want and it just hangs there. When I go to configure amarok and hit test sound it plays just fine. I've installed the packman repo and followed other instructions on getting media to work but I just get nothing.

I have installed the one click multimedia but I still can't play a DVD. It opens Totem but the video will not play. Are there more codecs I need to install to make this work?
View 9 Replies View RelatedI'm struggling to find a way to sync my media player (Sony W995 - it just appears as a disk when plugged in, so it should be OK I think). I can kind of get something working by adding the mount point as a 'Local Music' folder. The problem is, there doesn't seem to be a way of 'syncing' to Local folders. Further more, my music collection is in FLAC format on my PC - but I need to transcode it to mp3 when syncing with my media player. Is this possible? I don't expect to be syncing the other way at all.
Otherwise, I'm stuck with manually transcoding/copying files with Dolphin
It isn't that I don't get sound. It just won't play. If I click a file, then click play it quickly goes through an amount of songs. Too quick to give a good number. For example, if I have 100 songs on my library, I want to play one. Obviously I click play and such to make it play but instead of playing it acts as if it can not read the file (even though all my songs are in the library). Got any help/tips/whatevers?
View 5 Replies View RelatedThere is no sound when I play a movie. The only mediaplayer that plays the audio is kaffeine. Amarok plays MP3 just fine. All the rest does not. Not vlc, (s)mplayer. An avi,mp3 or mkv file it does not matter. I have installed all restricted codecs but I had to doe it 2 times, the first time I did it the 1click method, but the installation what's interrupted.

These books can be downloaded only by using Overdrive Media Console (which is available only for Windows and Mac, and also requires Windows Media Player to work!) and iTunes if you want to transfer to an iPod.
I've searched around for Linux friendly solutions. They fall into two categories, try Wine/virtual machine/dual boot to run the required software, or give up. But pretty much everything I have found is about four years old now. Has anything changed in the last few years, or is this still pretty much the way things are? At the moment I use my girlfriend's Vista computer to download books, but I would like to be as Windows free as possible, and able to do it on my own computer.
Can anyone offer advice for being able to download audiobooks and put them on an iPod, with a minimum of non-Linux software? Relatedly, I would also be quite happy to replace the iPod firmware with Rockbox, but from what I can tell that would make library audiobooks even less accessible (so asking if this is an option is like asking for $10 after being refused $1).
I'm using OpenSUSE-11.4+KDE and have not been able to access my Sansa Express drive. I can pull it up part way, but it acts as read only. I'm not sure what settings I may need to make in the Partitioner to fix this.If I boot into a LiveCD of LinuxMint10-KDE and plug it in it is instantly identified as a "Media Device," and I have access into the MTP section of it I believe.
I prefer using Banshee, but will use Dolphin to manual drop files it I can get the Sansa drive to operate as with Read+Write. I've seen this device listed here at "plug and play" [URL]../HCL:Gadgets#Media_Players

By out of the the box i mean the the mp3 player will connect via usb and will work automatically with no need for drivers or command line changes. Ideally a player composed like a usb key in the sense that the player should have no moving parts (will be using the player in the gym a lot so player cant be fragile). I live in europe by the way.
