Ubuntu Multimedia :: Amarok Crashes When Trying To Play Any Song
May 31, 2011I'm on Ubuntu 10.04, Amarok version 2.3.0, Using KDE 4.4.2 Whenever I start Amarok and try to play any song, amarok crashes, smetimes a few seconds of the music can be heard even if the Amarok window is no longer there. This is my yakuake code from starting Amarok to the crash, I don't really know where to start looking for an answer.

Feb 16, 20113 o 4 days ago I installed KDE 4.6 from KDE 46 repository and I upgrade my OS and some applications like Amarok. I had some problems so I erased .kde folder and reboot my computer. KDE 4.6 works fine and fast (in my opinion, faster than KDE 4.5) but I have problems with Amarok 2.4. When I try to scan my music collection Amarok don't find any song. I have a NTFS partition in my computer and I have all my music there. I mount the partition since fstab and in 6 months I didn't have any problem. I can use Clementine for exmple and scan all my songs perfectly, but not Amarok.

Sound is working fine-- I can test my sound card in YAST and get sound when I play audio or video files using kaffine. But when I try to use amarok or banshee I get only silence, even when I just try to play system sounds.

Feb 17, 2010I'm cleaning up my music library and deleting duplicates and during that process I accidentally deleted the wrong song. Is there some way to undo this process? Banshee gave me no warning, and the trash is empty. I'm assuming there's a command I can use to recover the file, but as I'm a complete noob, I need some assistance.

Jul 3, 2011I'm having trouble playing some mp3's through Amarok, all other media players are fine with the mp3's in question. Tested on VLC and Audacious. Most other mp3's play through Amarok though. Why this problem. I'm using the gstreamer backend. I tried changing it to xine but then nothing would play. I really like Amarok and want to use it as my main player, so this issue is a little irritating.

Jan 2, 2011ok on my new laptop, banshee deletes songs other then the ones I told it to. I highlite a song or 2 I want to remove from a playlist, rightclick select remove from playlist and some seemingly randome other song is removed and the one I selected is left there.
what could cause this, am I the only one affected and is there a solution, for the moment I am using rythembox to play music.
I would prefer to use banshee as it plays nicer with my mp3 player then any other program I have tried.

When I try to listen to the music, it simply puts a red cross against each track. Since combining video and music is VERY common, this means I have a whole host of CDs that will not play. MS media player and VLC have no problems with these, so how can I make Banshee play them?

Nov 23, 2009It isn't that I don't get sound. It just won't play. If I click a file, then click play it quickly goes through an amount of songs. Too quick to give a good number. For example, if I have 100 songs on my library, I want to play one. Obviously I click play and such to make it play but instead of playing it acts as if it can not read the file (even though all my songs are in the library). Got any help/tips/whatevers?

Nov 18, 2010I've tried to search through this forum a couple of times to understand this problem, but no posts to date (that I've found) quite address it. Simply put, I am unable to get amarok to play mp3 files, which represent a large portion of my music collection.Every time I start the program, a window pops up advising me that amarok cannot play mp3 files, and it asks if I wish to install that support. Every time I click yes, it announces that the system has successfully done so, except that I might have to restart the program for the change to take effectEvery time I restart the program the same sequence happens. At no time does it ever play mp3 files.
I've tried to install every mp3 codec library I can find, none of this makes any difference.There was a time when amarok handled all this with absolutely no problem and behaved like a really good music manager, but that capability evidently was blown away by some software update that I probably wouldn't have run if I'd known what would happen.Does anyone know how to solve this? (Yes, I've tried using mmcheck. Does no good. This is openSUSE 11.3 for x86_64. Amarok Version 2.3.0 Using KDE 4.4.4 (KDE 4.4.4) "release 2"

Jul 18, 2011I've installed Opensuse 11.4 and even have the multiboot working (at last) and firefox running at more than a snails pace, but this latest problem is really stumping me. I suspect it might be a little more fundamental than just amarok and mp3's but that's where I see it.
So, when I run amarok it asks if I would like to install MP3 support So I click on affermative and, since I added the neccessary repositories, it starts merrily into updating. Then after a few files it his this one:
libqt4-devel-doc-data
98MB. It downloads all the way to 99% and then the transfer rate drops from the 120KB/s I expect to 8B/s for a minute or so nad then it just restarts from 0%. It will do this a few times before offering the opportunity to skip. I did skip and it did a few more files successfully then hung up in the same way. It seems like any file larger than 1MB will not download.

Jan 22, 2010I see that whenever I try and run a video, the system defaults to try and run it in Banshee.Banshee, though, sits there with a black screen and the information on what it is supposed to be playing. Clicking the Play button does nothing. This includes OGG (OGV?) video files.Does anybody use this feature in Banshee and got it to work?

Jun 26, 2010I have a dsi so all of my music in .m4a I have all the codecs/gstreamers packages installed and they are all from packman it's not my sound cause I can play them in vlc but in rhythm box it says that I do not have the proper codec to play the file. Jan 20, 2011Both Banshee and Rhythmbox crash, leaving a segmentation fault in the terminal, after playing a song for less than a second. I do manage to get some sound before they crash. This problem seems to have begun only a couple of days ago after doing an update. Unfortunately I was playing playing around with moving my music collection to an NFS share around the same time as the update so I can't be sure which action it was that broke music playback.
Because both Banshee and Rhythymbox are affected and showing identical behaviour I think the problem is gstreamer. Reinstalling everything I could find in synaptic related to gstreamer had no effect.
Some general information:
- My music collection is in FLAC but other formats seem to cause the same behaviour.
- Music from an NFS share or my external USB drive causes the same behaviour
- VLC plays music from my NFS share without any problems
- Removing ubuntu-one (as suggested in some posts) did not help
- I'm using Ubuntu Desktop 10.10 x86
I've had no luck searching the interwebs for help thus far. Does anyone have any ideas?

Apr 13, 2011The latest version of banshee 2.0.0 which was updated today on my computer has a bug where if you double click on song in your library it will show the wrong album art and the wrong wikipedia article. If you double click a second time it retrieves the correct album art and the correct wikipedia article. If this is the new banshee for Ubuntu 11.04 it's not going to make many people happy.
