Im using ubuntu 10.04 I would like to know if their is a program that can change the format, contrast, and brightness of a large bulk group of pictures instead of doing it one by one?

Does the linux nvidia drivers disable my monitor functions? is my monitor improperly configured? do i need to take some steps in setting up my monitor? there are some tiny white scanlines going through the display horizontally if i look real close...minimimalist ubuntu 10.04/XFCE4 same happend on ubuntu 10.04 gnome... with or without the geforce drivers.

Whenever I install a distro this means that I always have to download a ton of different audio stuff as well (and I really don't understand linux audio). Typically this means gstreamer good, bad and ugly, xine, GNOME Mplayer and god knows what else. If I could change the formats of all files into a simple FOSS format I would. Is there a program that can detect current formats and do a bulk convert, into ogg maybe?
View 9 Replies View RelatedI'd been trying to get into Linux before I bought it so I figured that I would try to get it onto my new Mac so that I could use it wherever I am. I decided to try Debian Lenny 5.0.3 a whirl after reading about all the different distros available. I've successfully installed it and I can get to it with rEFIt, and I have quite a few things working such as the video drivers and wifi. However, I've had trouble getting it to a level where it'd be usable away from home. Here are the main problems I'm worried about:
1) I installed pommed but I still can't use the brightness keys to change the screen brightness. I'm not sure if there's some other workaround for this?
2) I tried some recommended power management packages (gnome-power-manager) but it doesn't seem to be accessible or functional right now. I don't have any way to control it or get to it that is obvious to me. Is an icon or anything supposed to appear on the task bar when you install or what? Getting some sort of power management on here is important because it gets really lousy battery life otherwise.
3) Being a Macbook, there's no right-click button. Multitouch would be really nice (two-finger scrolling!) but I'd be OK with ANY way to right-click with the touchpad. I have a wireless USB keyboard/mouse combo that works at home at least . . . right out of the box too!
4) I've seen some packages called the Mactel PPA, but they are made for Ubuntu. Since Debian and Ubuntu are so similar, is there any way to make those work on Lenny? I think that if I got those to work, I could fix some of the problems above. Or do I have to install Ubuntu?
5) I just noticed that the sound doesn't seem to work yet either.
I'm enjoying the default 10.04 theme, but the one thing that doesn't work for me is the scrollbar. I can hardly see it. Where I can edit just the scrollbar color without changing themes completely?

Now there seems to be only placeholder pic for every user on this computer, but of course I want to have real picture there to greet the users. So the question is, where can I change the pictures?

It seems to appear across the system (GNOME 3), from Skype to IceDove to Nautilus. So my hope is there is a central instance where I can change this. I would prefer to have 13-Jan-15 or 13-Jan-2015 or at the very least 13/01/2015, i.e. in some order consistent with my European brain.

I've been working on a small program to perform a very specific and useful task of quickly and efficiently converting videos to go on any Apple Ipod or Iphone. This includes both classic and 5th generation Ipods as well. Ibulk is a command-line only program but incredibly easy to use and runs off FFmpeg with AAC functionality. The program comes with a Read Me file which will explain its options and instructions in concise detail. Ibulk converts several videos in its input folder to the desired H.264 or XviD video encoding to its output folder. All videos are created in mp4 format with 160Kbps 48000Hz audio sound quality (highest setting an Ipod can handle) and both video encoders at the highest bitrate an Ipod can handle with the exception of some videos which will be auto-adjusted to meet the Ipod's requirements. Ibulk is written in the native unix/linux language and so it should work on any linux distro.

When playing dvd's, vob files and wmv files, the image comes with high contrast colors ,very intense red/green/blue. very dark too. I have vlc 1.1.4 installed, using ubuntu 10.10, libdvdcss2 installed. for the rest of the video formats it seems to work fine. any ideas on what should I start debugging?

View 4 Replies View RelatedToday I decided to customise my Ubuntu by installing my own picture over the default picture used in the log-in screen. I did a search and found it (in /usr/share/backgrounds). I looked into it a bit and found that the image was a .jpg with the name changed to a .png extension. I though I copied the title of it but must have hit the wrong button.
I put my picture in the folder. I then copied the name of the file, then deleted it. I went to paste the name over my new picture, and then found that I had hit the wrong button to copy it. When I delete things I usually hold shift to perma-delete it, so it isn't in the bin. Oh btw, I did this before in 10.04 and it worked in case anyone wants to do the same. It just needs to be a .jpg file, renamed to end with .png

View 1 Replies View RelatedI bought a Asus eeepc a few days ago which I really like, with the exception of one thing - windows 7 starter. I like Windows 7, but starter is just bad. I also really like ubuntu, so I've decided to put it on my netbook. I download the netbook edition from the site, put it on a usb drive, and than tested it out - well, my screen is dim, very dim. Changing the brightness setting on the tool bar up top doesn't change anything, and using the function keys does change it, but still keeps it very dim.
I've tried restarting my computer, same thing, I've tried messing around with settings in the battery options, nothing... I really don't want to install it if its going to be this dark, I can see things, but its not very pleasant to use. I'm starting to consider that its the problem with the file I downloaded. Theres nothing wrong with my netbook, everything worked perfectly fine in Windows 7. I use the full version of ubuntu 10.04 on my other laptop which works perfectly fine, I'm not sure why this version is acting so weird on my netbook.
i try to install mac4lin, then i found it not nice, then i decided to uninstall it. everything is back to original fedora 12 theme, except this volume controller image. is there any way to change it back to original fedora 12 volume controller image?

It is only possible to use the monitor's control for now.Yeah my monitor make an annoying whining noise unless you turn it on 100% brightness, but that hurts my eyes.It is so crazy that they didn't put a brightness control in! Firstly, I had a little problem with nvidia drivers and wireless because I installed from a normal CD, but then I repaired it installing drivers from the web page and updating the system. However, I continue having a problem with changing brightness even with the Fn buttons or with the gnome configuration control. I followed some suggestions as for example these ones http://forums.fedoraforum.org/showthread.php?t=262545, but nothing change. I already tried with xbacklight but still not working. I also did a change in grub conf file (following google search suggestions) adding these commands: acpi_backlight=vendor acpi_osi=Linux, but nothing.
